NYS Department of Labor saying my social security number is invalid - why is this happening?
I'm trying to file my weekly unemployment claim and the NYS Department of Labor system keeps rejecting my social security number as invalid. I've double checked it like 10 times and I'm entering it exactly right. This started happening yesterday when I tried to certify and now I can't access my account at all. My SSN worked fine for the past 2 months of claims. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm worried my benefits are going to get stopped.

This happened to me last month! It's usually a system glitch on the NYS Department of Labor side. Try clearing your browser cache completely and use a different browser. Also make sure you're not using any dashes or spaces when entering your SSN - just the 9 digits straight through.

•I tried that already but I'll try a different browser. Did you have to call them or did it fix itself?

ugh this system is such garbage. mine did this for like 3 days straight then randomly started working again. try logging in at different times of day, sometimes it works better early morning

There are a few reasons this can happen: 1) Database sync issues between systems 2) Recent identity verification flags 3) Browser session timeout causing form corruption. First try the browser fixes mentioned above. If that doesn't work, you'll need to contact NYS Department of Labor directly because this can affect your claim processing. Don't wait too long - you have a limited window for weekly certification.

•How do I contact them though? I've been trying to call for hours and can't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor.

•I had the same phone problem last week when my claim got stuck in adjudication. Someone on here recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it actually worked - they got me connected to a real NYS Department of Labor agent in like 20 minutes. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Worth trying since the regular phone lines are impossible.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally change something in your personal info? Sometimes if there's a mismatch between what's in the system and what you're entering it will reject your SSN even if the number itself is right.

•I haven't changed anything in my profile. Everything else looks the same when I log in, it's just the weekly claim form that's rejecting it.

This exact thing happened to my brother in law and it turned out there was some kind of fraud alert on his account that he didn't know about. NYS Department of Labor had flagged it for manual review. He had to verify his identity again with documents.

I had this exact same issue about 6 weeks ago and it was so frustrating! In my case, it ended up being a combination of browser issues and some backend system maintenance they were doing. What finally worked for me was: 1) Try using incognito/private browsing mode 2) If you have any browser extensions that block trackers or ads, disable them temporarily 3) Try accessing the site from a mobile device instead of desktop. The mobile version sometimes processes differently. Also, definitely keep trying at different times - I noticed it worked better for me around 6-7 AM when server traffic was lower. Don't panic about missing your certification window - as long as you keep trying and document your attempts, they usually won't penalize you for technical issues on their end.

•@Eduardo Silva This is super helpful, thank you! I m'going to try the incognito mode right now. I do have some ad blockers running so I ll'disable those too. It s'reassuring to know they won t'penalize me for their technical issues - I was really worried about losing my benefits over this glitch.

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Started 3 days ago and it's driving me crazy. I tried all the browser fixes everyone mentioned but nothing worked. What finally got me through was using my phone's mobile browser instead of my computer - for some reason the mobile site accepted my SSN when the desktop version wouldn't. Also found out from a friend who works in IT that sometimes these government systems have issues with certain internet providers or geographic regions during peak usage times. Try switching to your phone's cellular data instead of wifi if you haven't already. Really hoping NYS Department of Labor fixes these technical problems soon because this is affecting way too many people.

•@Omar Fawaz That s'a really good point about the internet provider/geographic region issues! I never would have thought of that. I m'going to try switching to cellular data right now. It s'crazy how many people are having this same problem - you d'think NYS Department of Labor would prioritize fixing these technical glitches since they re'literally preventing people from accessing their benefits. Thanks for sharing what worked for you!

I'm experiencing the same SSN rejection issue as of this morning! After reading through all these suggestions, I wanted to share what's been working for me so far. The mobile browser trick that @Omar Fawaz mentioned was a game changer - I was able to get past the SSN error using my phone's Safari browser when Chrome on my laptop kept failing. Also, I noticed that if you get the error message, don't immediately try again - wait about 10-15 minutes between attempts because I think the system temporarily locks you out after failed submissions. For anyone still struggling, try these steps in order: 1) Clear all browser data and cookies 2) Switch to mobile device with cellular data 3) Try during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) 4) Use incognito/private mode. If none of that works, definitely use that Claimyr service @Asher Levin mentioned - seems like it's the only reliable way to actually talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor these days. This whole situation is unacceptable though - people shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to access their unemployment benefits.
