Holiday delay for ESD payments this week? Still 'processing' on Wednesday
Is anyone else's payment taking longer than usual this week? I filed my weekly claim on Sunday night like I always do, but it's still showing as 'processing' today (Wednesday). Normally the money hits my account by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning at the latest. Could the President's Day holiday on Monday be causing delays at ESD? Starting to get nervous since I've got rent due on the 1st and I'm cutting it close this month. Anyone else experiencing this?

Same boat here. My payment is also delayed and I'm usually paid by Wednesday morning too. Almost certainly because of the holiday on Monday - banks and government offices were closed. My guess is we'll see the money tomorrow.

•Thanks, that makes sense. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me or something wrong with my claim! Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

This is a common occurrence after federal holidays. ESD processes claims on business days, so with Monday being a holiday, everything gets pushed back by one day. Your payment should arrive Thursday, possibly even late tonight depending on your bank. If it's not there by Friday, then you might want to contact ESD to check if there's another issue. A tip for future holiday weeks - plan for this one-day delay in your budget if you have tight deadlines like rent.

•That's really helpful, thank you! I'll definitely plan better next time there's a holiday. Will wait till Friday before I start to worry.

I've been on unemployment for 3 months now and every single holiday messes up the payment schedule! Christmas was the worst because my payment was almost a week late and nobody at ESD would answer calls. So stressful when you're counting on that money!

•You're right about the holiday delays being stressful. One thing that helped me during the December holiday period was using Claimyr to actually get through to ESD. Normal calls were impossible, but Claimyr got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - the website is claimyr.com. Totally worth it when you're stressed about money and need answers fast.

THIS HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY!!!! ESD never manages to plan ahead for holidays even though they happen EVERY YEAR on the SAME DATES!!! And they never post any warnings or notifications about delays. Wouldn't it be nice if they sent an email saying "Hey your payment will be delayed because of the holiday" instead of leaving everyone panicking???? But nooooo, that would be too logical and helpful.

•While I understand your frustration, ESD actually does note on their website that payment processing follows banking business days. Federal holidays affect not just ESD but the entire banking system. It's standard practice across all government benefits programs. I've found that adding calendar reminders for federal holidays helps me plan my budget accordingly.

Update: My payment just came through this morning (Thursday)! Looks like everyone was right about the holiday delay. Thanks for helping me not panic!

FYI for anyone who finds this thread in the future - I've been on UI for about 5 months now, and I've noticed this pattern: If there's a Monday holiday: Payment usually arrives Thursday If there's a Friday holiday: Usually no delay Multi-day holiday periods (like Christmas/New Year): Can delay payments by 2-3 days Just sharing so others can plan ahead better than I did initially!
