ESD updated bank info - how long until I get my 7 weeks of backpay?

So frustrating! I just got approved for unemployment but realized ESD had my old closed bank account on file. I'm owed payments for 7 weeks now! Finally got through to someone this week who helped me update my banking info, but they were super vague about when I'll actually see the money. Has anyone been through this? How long does it typically take for ESD to process the bank account change and release backpay? Getting desperate as bills are piling up and I was counting on this money weeks ago. 😩

When I changed my direct deposit info last year, it took about 3-4 business days before the payments started coming through to my new account. ESD has to verify the new account information first for security reasons. If you've already been approved and it's just a matter of payment method, you shouldn't have to wait too long. Just make sure you keep filing your weekly claims on time!

Thanks for the info! That's a relief to hear. Did they send all your backpay at once or split it up over multiple deposits?

This is actually a fairly common issue with ESD payments. Here's what typically happens:\n\n1. Bank info updates generally take 3-5 business days to fully process in their system\n2. Once processed, backpay is usually released all at once, though sometimes it can come in 2-3 separate deposits\n3. If it's been more than 7 business days since your bank info was updated, you should contact them again\n\nThe key is to make sure your payment status in eServices shows \

I had the same thing happen back when I was on unemployment. Had my old Wells Fargo account that was closed and didn't realize it until 6 weeks had gone by with no money! So stressful. But the good news is that they did pay everything out at once about a week after I fixed my banking info.

If you're still having trouble getting through to ESD after next week, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation with backpay issues and couldn't get through on the phones for WEEKS. Claimyr helped me get connected to an actual ESD agent who fixed my payment issues on the spot. They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nWorth it when you're waiting on thousands in backpay and can't afford to wait another month!

I used it last month when my claim was stuck in adjudication. It actually works! Got through to an agent in about 25 minutes after spending days trying on my own and getting nowhere.

Also, make sure you double-check that your bank account info was entered correctly. I had a friend who waited three weeks only to discover she had transposed two digits in her account number. When you're looking at your eServices account, go to the Payment tab and verify all the banking details show correctly there.

Just checked and all digits are correct. Thanks for the reminder though - would have been awful to wait all this time only to discover a typo!

Yes! I noticed that too when I called about my job search requirements. Took me forever to figure out which option to select. Why can't they just leave things alone?

Just following up - any updates on your backpay situation? Did the funds come through yet?

YES!!! The money finally hit my account this morning! All 7 weeks came through as one lump sum. Exactly 6 business days after updating my banking info. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and advice.

That's great news! Glad it worked out and didn't take too long in the end.
