One more thing - if you need to speak with Washington ESD about any of these issues, definitely try Claimyr. I've recommended it to several friends and they've all had success getting through to agents quickly. Way better than the endless busy signals.
Just want to add that I used Claimyr recently when I had a similar issue with Washington ESD not returning my calls. Got through to someone who actually looked at my case and explained everything clearly. Worth considering if you're having trouble reaching them.
Same here - Claimyr helped me get connected when I was dealing with an overpayment issue. Their service really works.
Bottom line is don't panic but do act quickly. File your appeal, gather your documentation, and try to get clarification from Washington ESD about the specific reason for disqualification. Most legitimate cases get resolved eventually.
Seriously though, bookmark that Claimyr site. I wish I had known about it from the beginning instead of wasting so much time on hold with Washington ESD.
This thread has been really helpful. I'm in a somewhat similar situation and wasn't sure about the timing. Sounds like the consensus is to wait until medically cleared, then file immediately with proper documentation.
One last thought - keep records of when your employer notified you about the position elimination. Washington ESD might ask about the timeline of events when you file your claim.

One more thing - if you do get approved, make sure you understand when your benefits start. There's usually a waiting week, and if you had any severance pay or vacation payout, that might affect when your benefits begin. Plan your finances accordingly.

•I did get a small severance package. Will that delay my benefits even if I'm approved?

•It might depending on how much and how Washington ESD categorizes it. They'll ask about any payments you received when you file your claim.

Bottom line: apply now, be honest, keep records of everything, and don't let anyone tell you that being fired automatically disqualifies you. Performance-related terminations are approved for benefits all the time in Washington state.
