ESD payment stuck after fixing wrong bank account info - how long to wait?

I'm getting pretty worried about my unemployment benefits. ESD tried to deposit my payment last week but I accidentally had the wrong routing number in my account setup (my fault - I mistyped one digit). I called and got that fixed last Friday with the correct banking information, but it's now been 5 days and still nothing has shown up in my account. The ESD agent said it would be "reprocessed soon" but didn't give me any specific timeframe. My account status shows "paid" but the money is nowhere to be found. Has anyone dealt with this banking info correction issue before? How long should I expect to wait before the payment actually hits my account? Bills are piling up and I'm starting to stress.

Went through this EXACT same thing in January. They tried sending to my old closed account first. After I fixed it, took almost 2 WEEKS for the money to show up!!! The system is sooooo slow when it comes to payment reprocessing. The stupid part is they show it as "paid" in the system even though you don't have the $$$. Keep checking your bank account daily - it'll show up with no warning.

Two weeks?! That's ridiculous! Did you have to do anything else or just wait? I can't go that long without this payment.

When you provide updated banking information, ESD typically takes 5-7 business days to reprocess the payment. Since you corrected it last Friday, I'd expect to see it by this Friday or next Monday at the latest. The status showing "paid" is actually a good sign - it means the money has been allocated to you and isn't stuck in adjudication or some other hold. If you don't see it by Monday, I recommend calling again to make sure there isn't another issue.

This ⬆️ is the correct info. 5-7 business days is standard. Weekend days don't count as business days btw.

I had something similar happen but it was because I had entered my savings account instead of checking. It took 9 calendar days for my payment to come through after I fixed it. ESD has to go through a whole reversal process with the bank when the first deposit fails, which is why it takes so long. Have you checked your payment history page on eServices? Sometimes there's additional status information there that doesn't show on the main page.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just checked payment history and it shows "direct deposit" with the payment date from last week, but nothing new. Guess I just have to wait and see. It's just frustrating that there's no clarity on the timeline.

u should call them!!! don't just wait if u need the $$. my roomate waited 3 weeks thinking it would come and then found out there was ANOTHER problem they never told him about

Agree with this. I've learned the hard way that being proactive with ESD is always better than waiting. The system doesn't always update correctly and sometimes issues get stuck without anyone noticing unless you call. I know getting through on the phone is frustrating, but I've had good luck using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get past the long wait times. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It got me connected to an ESD agent in about 15 minutes when I was dealing with a similar banking issue last month.

this is why i always use direct deposit to my bank NOT the debit card thing they offer... less problems that way

I am using direct deposit to my bank account. That's what's so weird - they just sent it to the wrong account number because I typed it incorrectly when I first set up my claim.

Pro tip from someone who used to work in banking - when a direct deposit is sent to the wrong account number, there's a whole return process that has to happen. The receiving bank has to return the funds as unclaimable, then ESD has to reprocess once they receive that return. Each step can take 2-3 business days. So realistically you're looking at minimum a week, often 10 days total.

This is exactly right. And if the incorrect account number actually belonged to someone else's account (rather than just being invalid), it can take even longer because there might need to be additional verification steps. The banking system is frustratingly slow with these corrections.

Update: Payment just hit my account this morning! So it took exactly 7 business days from when I corrected the banking info. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance that this was normal. I was really starting to worry.

That's great news! Glad it came through. For future reference, this 5-7 business day timeframe is pretty standard for banking corrections with ESD. Make sure to double-check your banking info on your next weekly claim just to be certain everything is set correctly going forward.
