ESD payment finally arrived after Governor's office intervention - timeline question

After months of frustration with my unemployment claim stuck in 'pending' status, I finally contacted the Governor's office for help last week. Amazingly, things started moving right away! My status changed to 'paid' yesterday, but I'm anxiously checking my bank account every hour and nothing has shown up yet. For those who've gone the Governor's office route - how many days did it take for the money to actually hit your account after your claim status changed to paid? I'm wondering if I should keep waiting or if there's another issue I need to address. I'm getting really anxious since my rent is due next week and I'm counting on this payment.

In my experience, it typically takes 2-3 business days for the payment to hit your bank account after the status changes to paid. ESD processes the payment immediately, but then it depends on your bank's processing time. Direct deposits are usually faster than the ESD debit card option. Don't panic yet - if your status already changed to paid, the money is definitely coming!

That's a relief to hear! My bank usually processes direct deposits pretty quickly, so hopefully I'll see it by tomorrow. The waiting is just making me so nervous after fighting for months to get my claim resolved.

Glad to hear the Governor's office helped! For your specific question, when my claim was finally approved after escalation, I saw the money in my account about 48 hours after the status changed to paid. However, this can depend on several factors: 1. Whether you're using direct deposit or the ESD debit card 2. If it was processed on a weekend or holiday 3. Your specific bank's processing times for ACH transfers If it's been more than 3-4 business days since the status changed to paid, I'd recommend reaching out to ESD to confirm the payment was actually processed. Sometimes there can be a disconnect between the status change and the actual payment transmission.

This is super helpful, thank you! I am using direct deposit, and the status changed yesterday (Thursday), so maybe I'll see it Monday or Tuesday. If not, I'll definitely call ESD to follow up.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN!! The governor's office is literally the ONLY way to get anything done with ESD. They're completely useless otherwise. My payment took 5 FULL DAYS to show up after the status changed. And even then they tried to shortchange me for two weeks that I was clearly eligible for. The whole system is broken and designed to make you give up. Keep fighting!!

Ugh, that sounds frustrating! I hope they paid you everything you were owed eventually. I'll definitely keep an eye on the payment amount when it arrives to make sure it's correct.

wait how did you contact the governor's office? i've been stuck in adjudication for like 7 weeks and can't get anyone on the phone

I filled out the contact form on the Governor's website (www.governor.wa.gov/contact), explained my situation and how long I'd been waiting, and included my claim ID number. They got back to me within 48 hours and said they'd forward my case to their ESD liaison. Things started moving right after that!

If you're desperate to get through to ESD directly before your money arrives, I used a service called Claimyr that actually worked for me after weeks of failed attempts. It cost some money but they got me connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes when I couldn't get through for weeks on my own. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Honestly, it was worth it to get my adjudication issue resolved and find out exactly when my payment would arrive.

Thanks for the tip! If I don't see the payment by Tuesday, I might check this out. At this point I'm willing to try anything to avoid missing another rent payment.

Is that even legit? Seems sketchy to pay someone just to call ESD for you...

It's actually legit - they use some kind of technology to get through the phone queue and then connect you directly with an ESD agent. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for weeks. Not saying everyone needs it, but if you absolutely need to talk to someone at ESD and can't get through, it's an option.

When my payment status changed from pending to paid, the money showed up in my bank account exactly 3 business days later. But something else to consider - double check that your banking information is correct in your ESD account. I had a friend whose payment was delayed because she had accidentally transposed two digits in her account number when setting up direct deposit. If you've been waiting more than 4 business days, it might be worth verifying your banking details in the system.

That's a good point! I just logged in and verified my banking info is correct. Hopefully the delay is just normal processing time.

my cousin had this happen and they said it was paid but the $ never came. turned out there was an overpayment on an old claim that they took the money for. might wanna check if you have any overpayment notices?

Oh no! I'll check for that. I don't think I have any previous overpayments since this is my first time on unemployment, but I'll definitely look into it.

Just as an update for anyone searching this thread in the future - the standard processing time is 24-72 hours after your claim shows 'paid' status, but it can occasionally take up to 5 business days depending on banking institutions and whether weekends/holidays are involved. If you don't receive your payment after 5 business days, you should definitely contact ESD directly as there may be an issue with your payment processing.

Just wanted to update everyone - the money finally showed up in my account this morning! So it took exactly 4 business days from status change to deposit. Thanks for all your help and advice!
