One adjudication issue disappeared from pending list - is ESD actually working on my 8-week claim?

I'm going crazy waiting for my unemployment benefits. It's been 8 WEEKS with nothing but 'adjudication in progress' status on my account. Last Monday I finally called the governor's office (was desperate!) and surprisingly got a call back from ESD that same day. The rep told me my claim would be resolved by the end of that week. Well, that didn't happen. BUT, this morning I noticed something changed - I had 4 issues listed under 'pending issues' all saying 'adjudication in progress', and now there's only 3. One of them just disappeared. There's zero explanation of what happened to that issue - was it resolved? denied? Is this a good sign that they're actually working on my claim? I'm down to my last $230 and my landlord is getting impatient. Has anyone experienced a pending issue disappearing without any other updates?

Yep. That's actually a good sign. When pending issues disappear one by one without a denial or disqualification notice, it usually means they're clearing them as they review your case. I had 5 adjudication issues and they disappeared one at a time over a 2-week period, then I got paid for all weeks on the day after the last one was cleared. The annoying part is they NEVER tell you what's happening or what each issue was about. Classic ESD communication...

Oh thank god... I was worried maybe the issue disappeared because they denied it without telling me or something. Did they backpay you for all weeks once they resolved everything? Did you ever find out what your issues were about?

This is definitely progress! The disappearing pending issue means an adjudicator has reviewed and resolved that particular item. When I went through this last year, my issues were cleared one at a time over about 10 days. Here's what happens behind the scenes: an adjudicator reviews each issue separately, and once they're satisfied with the information they have, they make a determination. If it's in your favor, the issue simply disappears. If it's not in your favor, you'll receive a formal disqualification notice explaining why and how to appeal. Since you didn't get a denial notice, that's likely positive news. Since the governor's office got involved, your claim was probably flagged for priority review. Keep checking every morning - you might see the other issues disappear soon. Once all adjudication issues are resolved, payment processing usually happens within 48 hours if all determinations were in your favor.

I'm in the same boat right now! Been waiting 7 weeks with 3 adjudication issues. Did you upload all your identity verification documents? I've heard that's the main holdup these days. I'm thinking about calling the governor's office too since nothing else has worked. Did you just call the main number on their website?

Yes, I uploaded my ID, passport, and social security card right away. Still got stuck in adjudication. For the governor's office, I called the constituent services line (it's on their website). They took all my info and said someone would look into it. I was surprised when ESD actually called me back the same day!

I'm glad to see some movement on your claim! One disappearing adjudication issue is definitely progress. From my experience helping people navigate the ESD system, this is how it typically works: 1. Each pending issue is assigned to an adjudicator (might be different people for different issues) 2. They review documentation and make a determination 3. If favorable, the issue simply disappears with no notification 4. If unfavorable, you receive a formal disqualification letter Since you contacted the governor's office, your claim likely got flagged for expedited review. That's usually the fastest way to get movement on a stuck claim. If you want to get updates directly, I recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that gets you through to an ESD agent quickly instead of waiting on hold for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 I used it when my claim was stuck and was able to get specific information about what was happening with each issue. The agent I talked to could tell me exactly which issues were resolved and which still needed review.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! That makes a lot of sense. I'll check out that Claimyr thing if nothing changes by the end of the week. I really need to know what's happening with my claim at this point - I can't keep waiting in the dark.

NOT NECESARILY A GOOD SIGN!!! I had the EXACT same thing happen in February. Issues disappeared one by one but then I got a disqualification letter 3 weeks later for "failure to provide information" even though I sent EVERYTHING they asked for. Then had to file an appeal which took ANOTHER 6 weeks!!! Don't trust ANYTHING with ESD until you actually see the money in your account!!!

Oh no, that's terrifying. I've definitely sent them everything they asked for. Did you eventually win your appeal?

this happens because the system is totally broken. each adjudicator looks at 1 issue at a time and they don't talk to each other. i had one guy tell me my identity was verified while another was still asking for proof lol. just keep calling and calling eventually you'll get someone who actually helps

That's the frustrating part - you can never get through on the phone! I've tried calling at least 20 times and either get disconnected or told the wait time is over 3 hours.

the same thing happpened to me! one issue disappeared every few days. took about 2 weeks for all 6 of mine to clear and then i got paid for everything at once. hang in there!!

That's really reassuring to hear. Just knowing that others have had the same experience and it worked out makes me feel better. I'm checking my account like 10 times a day hoping to see more progress!

Update us when you get your payment! Fingers crossed it's soon. The good news is that they WILL backpay all those 8 weeks once approved. I know it doesn't help right now with your landlord situation though.

I definitely will! Another pending issue disappeared this morning! Now I'm down to just 2. Getting hopeful but trying not to get too excited yet.

This is really encouraging to see! I've been lurking here for weeks reading horror stories, but your experience gives me hope. I filed 6 weeks ago and have been stuck with 2 adjudication issues that haven't moved at all. Sounds like calling the governor's office might be worth a shot - I had no idea that was even an option. Did you have to provide any specific information when you called them, or did you just explain your situation? Also keeping my fingers crossed that your remaining 2 issues clear soon! The fact that they're disappearing one by one seems like a really positive sign.

Welcome to the waiting game! When I called the governor's office, I just explained my situation - how long I'd been waiting, that I was facing financial hardship, and that I hadn't gotten any updates from ESD despite multiple attempts to contact them. They asked for my name, claim number, and phone number. The person I spoke with was actually really understanding and said they'd send my case info to their ESD liaison. I honestly didn't expect much but was surprised when ESD called me back the same day. Even though they didn't resolve it by the end of the week like they promised, something clearly got moving because the issues started disappearing after that call. Definitely worth trying if you're stuck with no movement for 6 weeks!

I'm in a similar situation - 5 weeks waiting with 3 adjudication issues that haven't budged at all. Reading about your issues disappearing one by one gives me some hope! I didn't realize the governor's office was an option either. I've been calling ESD directly but can never get through - either busy signal or hours-long wait times. Quick question - when you called the governor's office, did you call during specific hours or just whenever? I'm wondering if there's a better time to reach them. Also, did the ESD rep who called you back give you any insight into what was causing the delays, or just the generic "we're working on it" response? Really hoping those last 2 issues clear for you soon! The fact that you're seeing regular progress now seems like a great sign that things are moving in the right direction.

I called the governor's office around 10 AM on a Tuesday - not sure if timing matters but they answered right away. The ESD rep who called me back was actually pretty helpful compared to what I've heard from others. She looked at my specific case and told me the issues were related to identity verification and work separation details, even though I had already submitted everything they requested. She said the delays were due to "staffing shortages in the adjudication department" (shocking, I know). She couldn't give me a timeline beyond "by end of week" but at least she was honest about what was happening. Way more information than I've gotten in 8 weeks of waiting! Definitely try calling the governor's office - worst case scenario they can't help, but it's better than sitting around waiting for ESD to magically start caring about your case.

This is exactly what I needed to hear right now! I'm on week 6 of waiting with 4 adjudication issues and was starting to lose hope. The fact that your issues are disappearing one by one after contacting the governor's office is really encouraging. I had no idea that was even an option - I thought I just had to wait it out forever. I'm definitely going to try calling their constituent services line tomorrow morning. Did you mention anything specific about financial hardship when you called, or just focus on the length of time you'd been waiting? I'm in a similar boat with rent due soon and it's getting really stressful. Thanks for sharing your experience and keeping us updated on the progress. It's so rare to see positive movement on these claims lately. Really hoping those last 2 issues clear for you this week! Please keep us posted when you finally get paid - stories like yours give the rest of us stuck in adjudication hell some much-needed hope.

Yes, definitely mention the financial hardship when you call! I specifically told them I was down to my last $230 and that my landlord was getting impatient. I think that helped convey the urgency of the situation. I also mentioned that it had been 8 weeks with zero communication from ESD despite multiple attempts to contact them. The person I spoke with seemed to really understand the human impact of these delays, not just the bureaucratic side of it. When you call, have your claim number ready and be prepared to give them a clear timeline of when you filed, how long you've been waiting, and what specific hardships you're facing because of the delay. Good luck - I really hope it helps move your case along like it did for mine!

This is so helpful to read! I'm currently on week 5 with 3 adjudication issues and was starting to panic thinking I'd be waiting forever. The fact that your issues are disappearing one by one after getting the governor's office involved gives me real hope. I had absolutely no idea that calling them was even an option - I thought you just had to suffer through ESD's broken system indefinitely. I'm definitely calling their constituent services line first thing tomorrow morning. My situation is getting desperate too - I've got about $180 left and my car payment is due next week. It's amazing that they actually called you back the same day and that things started moving after that, even if they didn't meet their promised timeline. The way you described the issues just disappearing without explanation is so typical of ESD's terrible communication, but at least it seems like progress is happening behind the scenes. Really crossing my fingers that your last 2 issues clear soon and you get that backpay! Please definitely update us when you get paid - success stories like this are what keep the rest of us going through this nightmare process.
