Multiple adjudications piling up on my ESD claim - rent due soon - help!

I'm seriously freaking out right now. Applied for unemployment on August 8th and somehow got slapped with an adjudication issue that same day. Fine, I figured it would resolve quickly. Then last week, a SECOND adjudication appeared on my eServices account. Now this week, I just checked and there's a THIRD separate adjudication on my claim! What the heck?? My claim status just says 'pending' for all three issues with zero explanation about what they're even investigating. I've tried calling ESD about 20 times and either get disconnected or told the wait time is 'over 2 hours.' My rent is due in 10 days and I'm down to my last $215. Has anyone dealt with multiple adjudications at once? How long did it take to resolve? I'm seriously about to have a breakdown here.

5 WEEKS??? I'll be evicted by then! Did they at least backpay you for all the weeks once it was resolved?

I experienced something similar last winter. Multiple adjudications usually happen when there are different elements of your claim that need review. Common reasons include: 1. Job separation issues (were you fired, laid off, quit?) 2. Availability for work questions 3. Identity verification 4. Wage discrepancies from past employers The frustrating part is that these often need to be resolved sequentially, not simultaneously. One gets resolved, then they move to the next one. Your best move is trying to speak with an ESD adjudicator directly. They can potentially consolidate the issues or expedite based on financial hardship. Do you know what the specific adjudication reasons are? They should be listed somewhere in your notices section.

Thank you for explaining this! One is definitely about my last job (I was laid off but my employer is probably disputing it). I honestly don't know what the other two are about. Under 'Issues and Decisions' it just says 'adjudication in progress' for all three with no details. Nothing in my notices either except the original 'we received your claim' message.

This EXACT thing happened to me back in March!!!! I had 3 separate adjudications and was going CRAZY trying to figure out what was going on. ESD's system is BROKEN!!!! They make it impossible to talk to anyone and then expect us to just wait while our bills pile up????? I finally got through after TWO MONTHS and found out one was about my ID verification (even though I uploaded my license AND passport), one was about my job separation (my boss claimed I quit when I was actually laid off), and the third was some random issue with my work history from 2023. The WORST part is that they won't tell you what they're investigating so you can't even provide documentation to speed things up. THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US GIVE UP!!!!

Two months is insane! Did they eventually approve your claim? And did they backpay you for all those weeks you were waiting?

Yes they finally approved it after I fought like hell. They did backpay everything BUT I almost lost my apartment waiting. My landlord was about to evict me and I had to borrow $1600 from my sister to avoid homelessness while waiting on ESD to get their act together. The stress literally gave me an ulcer.

I feel for you. Been there with the whole adjudication nightmare. My coworker told me about a service called Claimyr that helped him get through to ESD when he was in a similar situation. Basically they call ESD for you and when they get through, they connect you. Saved him from waiting on hold for hours. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Might be worth checking out if you're desperate to talk to someone at ESD.

I used Claimyr too! It's the ONLY reason I finally got through to a real person. Best decision I made during that whole unemployment nightmare.

I've never heard of this service. Does it actually work? I'm willing to try anything at this point because I NEED to talk to someone about these adjudications.

I deal with ESD claims regularly as part of my job assisting laid-off workers. Here's what you should do: 1. Submit a hardship request through your eServices account. Look under "Contact Us" and select financial hardship as the reason. Provide details about your rent situation. 2. Contact your state representative's office. This sounds extreme, but their constituent services can often expedite ESD issues. Just Google "[your city] state representative" and call their office. 3. Continue your weekly claims without fail, even while in adjudication. 4. Document everything. Take screenshots of your eServices account showing all three adjudications. Multiple adjudications usually get resolved all at once rather than sequentially. The average resolution time is currently 4-6 weeks, but hardship requests can speed this up significantly. When resolved, you will receive all back payments for weeks claimed during the wait period.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I didn't know about the hardship request option - I'll do that right away. And contacting my state rep is brilliant, I wouldn't have thought of that. I've definitely been keeping up with my weekly claims despite not getting paid. Really appreciate your help!

not to make things worse but my cousin had 2 adjudications and they denied his claim entirely after 6 weeks of waiting. said he didnt provide enough documentation for something he never knew they needed. the whole system is designed to deny people i think

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. I'm panicking that after all this waiting they'll just deny everything without even telling me what information they needed.

I was an adjudicator for ESD during 2020-2022, so I can provide some insight. Multiple adjudications typically occur when: 1. Your employer contests your reason for separation 2. There are discrepancies in your work history 3. There's an issue with your ability/availability to work 4. Identity verification is pending Here's what actually happens behind the scenes: Each adjudication is assigned to a different adjudicator, and they often don't communicate with each other. Your claim gets stuck in a queue until each adjudicator reviews their assigned issue. The fastest resolution path is speaking directly with an adjudicator. Call the claims center at exactly 8:00 AM when they open (not 8:01, not 7:59). Ask specifically for an adjudicator and mention financial hardship. If they say they can't transfer you, politely but firmly insist and mention potential eviction. If you can reach an adjudicator, they can often consolidate your issues and resolve them together rather than sequentially. This can cut weeks off your wait time.

This is incredibly helpful inside information! I'll try calling right at 8:00 AM tomorrow. Should I try the regular claims center number or is there a different one for reaching adjudicators?

Use the regular claims center number. Just make sure you're calling right at 8:00 AM when their system refreshes. The phone queue fills up within minutes. Once connected, immediately explain you have multiple adjudications and are facing eviction. This creates a legitimate hardship case which adjudicators are trained to prioritize. Also, check your "Notices" tab in eServices again. Sometimes the specific adjudication reasons are listed in letters that don't generate notifications. Click on each notice individually as they often contain the details you need.

Update: I managed to get through to ESD this morning! Called right at 8:00 AM like someone here suggested and only waited about 20 minutes. The person I spoke with was actually helpful and explained that my adjudications were for: 1. Job separation issue (my employer is claiming I quit) 2. Potential availability issue (because I mentioned possibly taking classes) 3. Wage verification (they need paystubs from a previous job) She expedited my claim due to financial hardship and consolidated the issues under one adjudicator. She said I should hear something within 5-7 business days! Thank you all for your advice - it really helped me understand what was going on and how to address it.

This is great news! Make sure you submit any documentation they requested for those issues immediately through your eServices account. The 5-7 day timeline starts once they have all the necessary documentation. And continue filing your weekly claims during this period.
