Multiple adjudications on ESD claim - are they working on separate issues?

I just checked my ESD unemployment account and noticed there are 2 separate adjudications showing up. I've been waiting for almost 3 weeks now with no payments. Does anyone know if this means they're investigating two different issues with my claim? Or is this normal to see multiple adjudications for a single problem? I'm getting really anxious because my savings are running low and I can't get through on the phone lines to ask someone directly. The online status just says "pending" for both adjudications with no details about what they're actually reviewing.

Yes, two adjudications typically means they're looking into two separate issues with your claim. I went through this last year. In my case, they were investigating both my reason for separation from my job AND whether I was able and available for work due to some childcare issues I mentioned. Each adjudication is handled independently, though sometimes by the same adjudicator.

Thanks for explaining! Do you know if they resolve both issues at the same time, or will they clear one and then start on the other? I'm trying to figure out how much longer this might take.

OMG I had the SAME THING back in February!! It took them FOREVER to sort it out!! So frustrating!!

How long did it take for them to resolve it for you? I'm on week 3 now and starting to really worry about bills.

Two adjudications means two separate issues are being reviewed. Common combinations include: - Job separation reason + able and available for work - Work search requirements + refusing suitable work - School attendance + voluntary quit The ESD adjudicator might contact your former employer for one issue and you directly for the other. Make sure you answer any calls from unknown numbers and check your eServices account daily for questionnaires that need to be completed. With two adjudications, your claim will likely take longer than the standard 3 weeks. Each issue must be resolved before payments can be released.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I did quit my last job to take a new position, but the new company rescinded the offer after I'd already given notice. I wonder if that's causing one of the issues. I'll make sure to answer all calls from now on.

7 weeks?! That's insane. I don't understand why they can't at least tell people what they're investigating. The lack of transparency is so frustrating.

I've been through multiple adjudications before - each one is a separate issue they're investigating about your claim. The problem is that their system won't release ANY payments until ALL adjudications are cleared. So even if they resolve one issue quickly, you won't see money until both are done. Have you tried calling them? I know it's nearly impossible to get through on the regular numbers, but I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to call. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 When I finally got through, the agent was able to tell me exactly what both adjudications were about and gave me an estimated timeline. Made a huge difference in my stress levels!

I've never heard of Claimyr before. Did you actually get useful information when you got through? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

Yes, once I got through to an actual ESD agent, they could see details that aren't visible in the online portal. The agent told me exactly what each adjudication was investigating and even gave me an estimate of when they might be resolved. They also added notes to my file about my financial hardship, which seemed to help speed things up a bit. Definitely worth making the call if you can get through.

Multiple adjudications is never a good sign, unfortunately. In my experience working with claimants, this typically adds weeks to the process. Each issue must be investigated separately, though they try to assign them to the same adjudicator when possible. Make sure you've submitted all requested documentation and responded to any fact-finding questionnaires. If you haven't received any questionnaires, that could mean they're still gathering information from your employer. You can also submit a hardship request if you're facing eviction, utility shutoff, or inability to afford medications. This won't guarantee faster processing but can sometimes move your claim up in priority.

I didn't know about the hardship request - I'll definitely look into that. I have received one questionnaire about my job separation which I completed right away. Haven't seen a second one though, which makes me wonder what the other issue might be.

I swear ESD makes this process as confusing as possible on purpose. Why can't they just TELL you what the issues are instead of making you guess? The whole system is designed to discourage people from collecting benefits they're entitled to. It's ridiculous that we have to play detective with our own claims.

It's frustrating for sure, but to be fair, I think they're just overwhelmed with claims. When I finally got through to someone, they explained that adjudicators are handling hundreds of cases simultaneously. Still, better communication would help everyone.

Thank you everyone for your responses! I finally managed to get through to ESD this morning. Turns out one adjudication is about my job separation (since I quit my previous job for a new offer that fell through) and the other is about some part-time gig work I did last year that I completely forgot to mention. The agent said they're trying to determine if I reported all my earnings correctly. They couldn't give me an exact timeline but said both issues are assigned to adjudicators now. I also filed a hardship request as someone suggested. Fingers crossed this gets resolved soon!

That's good news that both issues are actively assigned! The job separation one might take some time since they'll need to verify your story about the rescinded offer. For the gig work, make sure you have documentation of all earnings ready in case they request it. Hope it gets resolved quickly for you.
