ESD finally approved my claim after 8 weeks - how long for direct deposit to arrive?

After being stuck in pending limbo for 8 weeks (felt like forever!), I finally contacted the governor's office yesterday as some of you suggested. This morning I got the approval letter - such a relief! My ESD account now shows $700 for each week in my payment summary, but nothing has hit my bank account yet. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for the direct deposit to actually land after approval? I've got several overdue bills including rent that I'm desperate to pay ASAP. Just trying to figure out when I can tell my landlord to expect payment. Thanks for any insight!

Congrats on getting your claim resolved! For direct deposit, it usually takes 24-48 business hours after approval to hit your account. Since it was just approved this morning, I'd expect it tomorrow or the next day at the latest. If you have Bank of America, sometimes it shows up even faster. Make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your ESD account - there's a section under "Payment Options" where you can verify this.

Thank you so much! This makes me feel a lot better. I just double-checked my payment info and everything looks correct. I bank with BECU so hopefully it'll show up by tomorrow. Can't wait to finally catch up on bills!

Thanks for the info! I'm with BECU, so hopefully they're on the quicker side. I'm checking my account every 15 minutes lol

CONGRATULATIONS!!! It's such a relief when those funds finally get approved! I remember dancing around my apartment when mine finally came through after 6 weeks of nothing. The governor's office is definitely the way to go when you're stuck!

Thank you! And yes, I wish I'd contacted them sooner instead of just waiting and stressing. Such a weight off my shoulders!

Just wanted to add - if you're really in a bind with your landlord, you can print out the payment summary from your ESD account as proof that the money is coming. Most landlords will work with you if you can show them the approval. I had to do this back in September when my claim was delayed, and my property manager was actually pretty understanding once I showed them the official ESD documentation.

That's really good advice, thank you! I'll do that right now. My landlord has been patient so far, but having something official to show them will definitely help.

Glad to hear you got approved! The governor's office trick worked for me too last year. One thing to watch out for - sometimes ESD splits the payments into separate deposits, especially if you had multiple weeks pending. Don't panic if you only see partial payment at first.

Oh that's good to know! I'll keep an eye out for that possibility. As long as something starts showing up I'll be happy!

Just something to be aware of - if this is your first payment from ESD, there's a small chance they might send you a prepaid debit card instead of direct deposit, even if you selected direct deposit. This happens sometimes with new claims. If your direct deposit doesn't show up in 3 business days, check your mail for a US Bank ReliaCard. You can always change the payment method back to direct deposit after you receive your first payment. By the way, if you have any more issues getting through to ESD, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Saved me so much frustration when I needed to fix an issue with my claim.

I didn't know about the debit card thing - thanks for mentioning it! I'll keep an eye on my mail just in case. And I'll bookmark that Claimyr site for future reference. Hopefully I won't need it again, but based on this experience, you never know!

What number did you call for the governor's office? I've been stuck in adjudication for 10 WEEKS now and I'm at my wit's end. I've tried calling ESD dozens of times but either get disconnected or told they can't help. I'm about to be evicted and don't know what to do.

I called the Governor's Constituent Services Office at 360-902-4111. When you call, explain your situation clearly and tell them exactly how long you've been waiting. They took my info and said they'd forward it to their ESD liaison. I honestly didn't expect it to work so quickly! Definitely give them a call first thing tomorrow morning.

The ESD is such a joke. I got approved last month after 12 weeks of waiting and they STILL messed up my payments. Got less than I was supposed to and now I'm in the endless loop of trying to get someone on the phone to fix it. Good luck getting your money lol

OP - one more thing to add. Since you're receiving your first payment after multiple weeks of claims, you might want to double-check the payment amount once it arrives. Make sure it includes all the weeks you were approved for. You can compare it with your weekly benefit amount (WBA) multiplied by the number of weeks. If there's a discrepancy, contact ESD right away. Also, don't forget that if your direct deposit info was just added or updated, sometimes the first payment can take a bit longer - up to 3 business days. But in my experience, most people see the money within 24-48 hours of approval.

Thank you! I've written down my expected total - 8 weeks at $700 should be $5,600 before taxes. I'll definitely verify once it arrives. My direct deposit info has been set up since I first applied, so hopefully that won't cause any delays. Really appreciate the help!
