The benefit year rule is frustrating but at least now you know what to expect. Use this time to build your skills and network. When you can refile, you'll be in a better position.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'll try to stay positive and use this time productively.
I'm in a similar situation and just want to add that while you're waiting for your benefit year to expire, document everything - all your job applications, gig work earnings, and any skills training you do. When you finally can refile, having that documentation will help show you've been actively seeking work and may help with qualifying for a new claim. Also, don't forget to check if you qualify for any local assistance programs through your county - they sometimes have emergency rent/utility help that can bridge the gap while you're waiting. The marketing field is brutal right now but hang in there!
Actually just went thru this last month. My advice - call US Bank directly (not ESD) at 855-279-1270. They can tell you exactly when your card was mailed. Mine took 9 business days to arrive. If it's been more than 10 business days, they can cancel that one and expedite a new card to you in 3 days.
Thank you! I'll try calling US Bank tomorrow. That's such a relief to have a direct number to check on this.
I went through the exact same thing last year! The waiting is absolutely brutal, especially when you can see the money sitting there but can't access it. In my case, the ReliaCard took about 12 business days to arrive, which was longer than the 7-10 days they usually quote. What really helped was calling US Bank (the number Connor mentioned is correct) because they could actually track the card and confirm it was mailed. Also, just as a backup plan, you might want to contact your landlord and explain the situation - many are understanding about unemployment delays since it's so common. Some will accept a screenshot of your ESD account showing the pending payment as proof that money is coming. Hang in there, it should arrive soon!
Good luck with your application! The first time filing can seem overwhelming but Washington ESD's online system is pretty user-friendly once you get started. You've got this!
Thank you everyone for all the helpful advice! I feel much more prepared to file my application now.
One thing I didn't see mentioned - make sure you have your mailing address correct and up to date. Washington ESD will send important documents by mail including your monetary determination letter that shows your benefit amount. If you've moved recently or your mail delivery is unreliable, consider using a PO box or trusted address where you know you'll receive mail consistently.
You've got this! The hardest part is losing your job - filing for unemployment is actually the easy part. Washington ESD wants to help you, not make it difficult. Just take it one step at a time.
Thank you so much everyone! This has been incredibly helpful. I feel much more confident about the process now.
Glad we could help! Come back and let us know how it goes. Good luck with your job search too!
Just want to add that when you file online at esd.wa.gov, make sure you have a good internet connection and set aside enough time to complete the whole application in one sitting. The system can time out if you take too long, and you'll have to start over. I learned this the hard way! Also, keep a copy of your confirmation number once you submit - you'll need it for reference.

•Thanks everyone for all the advice! I think I'm going to try to speak with Washington ESD first to understand my specific situation, then decide whether to file a new claim.

•Smart plan. And if you need help getting through to them, definitely check out that Claimyr service. Made such a difference for me.

I just went through this exact situation last month! After my 26 weeks ended, I was able to file a new claim and got approved. The key is making sure you have enough wages in the new base period - they look at the first 4 of the last 5 completed quarters before you file. Since you worked 8 months before getting laid off, you might have a good chance depending on your earnings. I'd recommend using the online system to file rather than trying to call. It took about 3 weeks to get my first payment on the new claim. Keep all your employment records handy when you apply!
