ESD adjudication nightmare - claim stuck in limbo for 6 months with identity verification issues
I'm at my breaking point with ESD after fighting for 6 months to get my unemployment claim processed. Back in January, I tried opening a claim online but kept getting error messages about 'account issues'. In April, I finally got through by phone and they said to check my ESD account in 48 hours for correspondence - nothing showed up until JUNE! Turns out there was some fraud identity warning from last year (when I wasn't even claiming) that needed to be resolved. Since fixing that on June 21st, I've watched my claim bounce between statuses:\n\n- June 26: Everything went into 'Adjudication in Progress' with pay weeks showing 'Pending' instead of 'Disqualified'\n- July 7: All 3 adjudication issues suddenly got new dates and started disappearing\n- Then they sent 2 MORE duplicate questionnaires to fill out again!\n\nI've driven to ESD offices twice now (since calling is impossible). The last agent told me 'everything looks good, just be patient' but today one issue got another date change and the other is still showing yesterday's date.\n\nI've kept detailed records of my job search activities since April and responded to everything they've sent. How much longer can this possibly take? Has anyone dealt with identity verification issues slowing down their claim this badly? I'm starting to think they're deliberately finding ways to delay this forever.

What you're experiencing is unfortunately common with identity verification flags. Those fraud warnings can take forever to clear even when they're not related to your current claim. The good news is that once adjudication items start getting new dates and falling off, you're nearing the end of the process. Based on your timeline, I'd say you're probably 1-2 weeks away from resolution. When items are getting date changes, it usually means an adjudicator has reviewed them and is moving them through the system. Have you tried asking your state representative for help? They can sometimes expedite ESD claims.

Thanks for the hope! I haven't tried contacting my state rep yet - that's actually a great idea. Do you really think I'm close to resolution? It's just so weird that they'd remove adjudication items only to add more duplicate questionnaires right after.

OMG THIS SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE MY SITUATION!! I had the SAME THING with identity verification from a time when I wasn't even claiming!!! It took me from February until mid-May to get paid. The worst part was when they kept sending me the same forms over and over to fill out. I swear they do this on purpose to make people give up. Hang in there!!!

It's oddly comforting to know I'm not alone, though I'm sorry you went through this too. Did your payment eventually include all the back weeks? I'm worried they'll only pay from when I got the ID verification cleared in June even though I've been trying since January.

You need to get through to a live person at ESD immediately to escalate this. Their internal systems have a limit on how long adjudication can take, but it sounds like yours has gone past that. The fact that they're sending duplicate questionnaires is a red flag that your claim might be stuck in a technical loop. I had a similar situation last year and was able to get it resolved by using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an ESD agent when the regular phone lines were impossible. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 showing how it works. Once I got through to an actual adjudicator, they were able to see the looping issues and fix them on the spot.

I've used Claimyr too when I was stuck in adjudication. Worth every penny when you're waiting on thousands in benefits. Just make sure when you do get through that you ask for a 'claim escalation' specifically and mention the timeline. Anything over 3 weeks in adjudication can be flagged for expedited review.

dude the whole system is designed to make u give up. they WANT u to stop claiming so they dont have to pay. ive been dealing with this garbage for like 7 weeks now and everytime i call they give me a different answer. one agent says one thing and another says something totally opposite. its like they dont even know there own rules.

That's exactly how I feel! Every time I visit an office I get different information. One person says everything looks fine, another says there are issues that need to be fixed. How are we supposed to navigate this when even THEY don't seem to know what's happening?

I've been checking both religiously every day! The weird thing is that I submitted ID verification docs at the ESD office in person on June 21st, but then they still sent me more requests online. I'm wondering if the in-person submission didn't get properly recorded in their system.

When you visited the ESD office and they told you to be patient, did you get that person's name? Always get names, dates, and notes from every interaction. I was stuck in adjudication for 3 months due to an identity issue from a previous claim year. The key to getting it resolved was documenting everything and then using that documentation to request a formal claim escalation.\n\nSpecifically ask for a \

if u have all those weeks pending itll be a huge payment when it finally goes thru!! My friend got like $8000 after her identity thing cleared up. but yeah ESD is the absolute WORST with communication.

Based on everything you've described, it sounds like you're in the final stages of resolution. The pattern of adjudication items getting date changes followed by new questionnaires is actually normal in identity verification cases. Here's what's happening behind the scenes:\n\n1. Your ID verification is clearing system checks\n2. This is allowing previously blocked weekly claims to process\n3. The system is now catching up by requesting standard information for those claims\n\nI would expect resolution within 7-10 business days based on your timeline. If you don't see movement by then, that's when I'd recommend contacting your state representative. The key thing now is to respond to any new questionnaires immediately - even if they seem repetitive. This keeps your claim moving forward in the queue.

Thank you - this is really helpful context! I've been responding to everything within hours of receiving it. I'm just so worried because rent is due soon and I've exhausted my savings during this ordeal. I'll give it another week before contacting my representative.

When my claim was held up for identity verification (took 11 weeks total), what finally fixed it was calling the technical support line instead of the regular ESD line. The number is different (I think it's 855-682-0785) and they're actually able to see different information than the regular agents. Might be worth trying if you haven't already.

Technical support can sometimes help, but they typically won't have access to adjudication details. They can confirm if identity verification has been processed in the system though, which might be useful information. Just be prepared that they'll likely refer you back to regular ESD agents for claim-specific questions.
