Stuck on 'processing' for 6 weeks after ESD approval letter - normal wait time?

Finally got my approval letter from ESD last week after waiting for what felt like forever, but my claim is still showing 'processing' status when I log in. I've already been waiting 6 weeks total since I first applied! Is this normal? The letter says I qualify for $782/week but I haven't seen a penny. My rent is due next week and I'm getting really anxious. Has anyone else experienced this weird limbo where you're approved but still stuck in processing? How much longer should I expect to wait before payments actually start coming through?

Congrats on the approval! That's the hardest part. Processing status after approval usually takes about 3-5 business days, definitely not 6 weeks. Something's not right. Have you been filing your weekly claims the whole time?

Yes! I've been filing every week without fail. The system lets me complete the weekly claims but they all just show 'pending' after I submit them. I thought maybe this was normal but it's making me nervous...

OMG same boat here. Been stuck in 'processing' for 4 weeks after approval. Called 37 times yesterday and couldn't get thru. ESD website is NO HELP!!! This is ridiculous!!

It's not normal and you both should contact ESD ASAP. I waited 2 weeks after my approval letter before payments started. Anything beyond that usually means there's an identity verification issue or something flagged in your claim that's holding it up. Check your letters/notices section in eServices to see if there's anything there asking for additional info.

Processing status after approval letter is usually just a few days. 6 weeks means something is definitely wrong. You need to get someone on the phone and ask what's holding up your payments.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. Do you happen to know what hours they answer the phones? Every time I call it's just a recording saying they're experiencing high call volume, then it hangs up!

I discovered this service called Claimyr that helped me finally get through to ESD when I was in a similar situation. I was stuck in processing for 3 weeks after approval and couldn't get anyone on the phone. Claimyr basically holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of redial hell. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Literally got through in under an hour after trying for days on my own.

Thank you! I'll check it out right now. At this point I'd try anything to get an actual person on the phone who can tell me what's going on with my claim.

Have u tryed checking for hidden alerts on ur home page? Sometimes they dont send email but put alerts in ur account. I had this happen and missed submitting documentation they wanted, then was stuck in limbo for 2 months b4 i figured it out!!

Oh! I didn't even think to look for alerts. I just checked and there's nothing there, just the confirmation that my claim was approved. This is so frustrating.

Wait a minute, are we talking about regular UI or some other kind of claim? Because if it's a PUA claim those take WAY longer to process even after approval. Just wanna make sure we're comparing apples to apples here.

It's regular UI. I was laid off from my warehouse job in January. And PUA ended years ago during the pandemic, right? Unless they brought it back and I missed something?

PUA is long gone. And you're right about regular UI - should NOT take 6 weeks after approval. That's definitely an error.

ESD claims specialist here. This is definitely not normal. An approval letter means your monetary eligibility is established, but there may be a non-monetary issue that's still pending. Common problems after approval that cause delays: 1. Identity verification pending (most common) 2. Employer dispute about separation reason 3. Job search requirements not being met 4. System flag due to out-of-state IP addresses 5. Previous overpayment issues You absolutely need to contact ESD directly. Their current phone hours are 8am-4pm Monday-Friday, but the queue often fills up by 9:30am. I recommend calling right when they open.

Thank you for this detailed info! I'll definitely try calling right at 8am tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I don't have any of those issues (my employer confirmed they wouldn't contest it, I've been doing job searches, etc.), but maybe there's some kind of verification thing going on behind the scenes.

UPDATE on my situation (for anyone who ends up reading this thread later): I tried that Claimyr service the other person mentioned and actually got through to ESD this morning. Turns out they needed additional identity verification even though they never told me! Agent helped me submit it over the phone. Just FYI for anyone stuck like we were.

That's amazing! I'm going to try that tomorrow morning. Hope it works for me too. It's crazy they need additional verification but don't actually tell you about it!

I had a somewhat similar thing happen last year where I was approved but stuck in processing. My issue turned out to be that while my CLAIM was approved, my individual WEEKLY claims weren't processing because I had accidentally answered a question wrong on the weekly certifications. Once I got through to someone and fixed it, all my backpay came within 48 hours. Definitely need to talk to someone!

Oh that's interesting! I wonder if I messed something up on the weekly claims. It's so confusing answering all those questions every week.

Just wanted to add - check if there's an adjudication issue. Look in your notices section for anything about 'fact finding' or 'adjudication' - sometimes these can be easy to miss if you're not looking for them specifically. Adjudication can halt your payments even after approval.

Thank you, I double checked and don't see anything about adjudication. I'll definitely mention this when I call them though - maybe there's some kind of issue that isn't showing up in my account?

UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD this morning! Turns out there was an identity verification issue that was never communicated to me. The agent was super helpful and processed the verification while I was on the phone. She said my payments should start processing within 3 business days and I'll get all the backpay for the weeks I've been claiming. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

Great news! Glad you got it sorted out. Thanks for updating the thread - this will help others who find themselves in the same situation. ESD really needs to improve their communication!
