ESD payment delay after approval - filed weeks stuck in 'processing' status for weeks
I finally got my first unemployment payment on January 15, 2025 after waiting in adjudication hell for over a month (since mid-December). What a relief! But now I'm facing another issue - I filed two additional weekly claims the SAME DAY I got approved and received confirmation that ESD received them, but they're still showing as 'processing' now almost 3 weeks later. The ESD website shows my claim as active and eligible, no pending issues, but these two weekly claims just won't process into payments. I can't afford another delay after burning through my savings during the adjudication period. Has anyone else experienced their weekly claims getting stuck in processing limbo AFTER being approved? Any advice on how to get these processed? Starting to panic about rent...

•Exactly! Did yours eventually go through? Did you have to do anything special to make it happen?

This is actually a fairly common issue after initial approval. When your claim first gets approved after adjudication, there's often a backlog of weeks that need to be processed in sequence. The system sometimes needs time to catch up, especially if there were verification steps needed during your adjudication period. Check your "Notices/Letters" section on eServices - sometimes there's a request for additional information that doesn't show up elsewhere. Also, make sure you didn't accidentally hit any work or earnings questions that might have triggered a new review. If it's been more than 2 weeks since filing with no movement, I suggest calling ESD directly. The processing delay shouldn't be this long for simple weekly claims once you're approved.

•Thanks for the explanation. I just checked my Notices section and there's nothing new there. All my answers on the weekly claims were the same as my first approved week - no work, no earnings, looking for work, etc. I'll try calling tomorrow but I've had terrible luck getting through in the past.

This could be the identity verification issue. My boss's son went through this EXACT SAME THING last month and it turned out they secretly flagged his account for ID verification even though he was already approved and got one payment. He had to upload his drivers license and SS card again even though he'd already done it during the initial claim. Check your account for any alerts or try calling...good luck with that tho lol

•That's interesting - I don't see any alerts about identity verification, but maybe it's not showing up properly. Did he just call to find this out or was there somewhere specific in the portal he had to check?

The ESD system has really gone downhill since 2023. Processing delays for approved claims is their newest special torture. I waited 6 WEEKS for my "processing" payments after initial approval, calling every day with no help. Then magically one day they all appeared in my account with no explanation. Their official line is "please allow up to 3 weeks for processing" but we all know that's complete BS. It's just their way of holding onto money longer. The only thing that eventually worked for me was filing a complaint with my state representative's office. Suddenly ESD found a way to process my payments within 48 hours after that...

•Same happened with me!!!! I waited 5 weeks and nothing happened. Called over and over. Then after I mentioned consulting an attorney suddenly my payments processed the next day. SUSPICIOUS MUCH??

I've helped several people with this exact scenario. Here's what's happening: after your claim is approved and your first payment processes, the system sometimes puts subsequent weeks into an automated review queue, especially if there was a complex adjudication beforehand. This isn't always visible in your online account. The most efficient solution is to speak directly with an ESD claims specialist who can manually review and release these payments. Unfortunately, their phone lines are perpetually overwhelmed. I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they have a service that helps you get through to an actual ESD agent without waiting on hold forever. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once you get through to someone, specifically ask them to check if your weekly claims are stuck in the automated review queue and request they be manually processed. Be sure to mention you've already been approved and received your first payment.

•Thank you! I've been trying to call for the past week with no luck - I'll check out that service because I'm desperate at this point. Did most people you helped get their payments released once they actually reached someone?

•Yes, in almost every case, once they spoke with an actual claims specialist (not just the frontline call takers), they were able to get the payments processed within 1-3 business days. Make sure you have your claim ID, the specific week dates that are stuck, and any confirmation numbers for those weekly claims ready when you call. This helps the agent look up your specific situation more quickly.

Are you SURE you don't have any issues flagged on your claim? Sometimes they hide them really well in the system. Check under "Decisions" not just the main dashboard. Also check your spam folder for emails from ESD - they might have sent you something requesting info. I had my payments stuck for WEEKS and nearly got evicted before I realized they needed me to verify my work search activities even though I'd been entering them every week! The notification was buried in the "Decisions" tab with some vague status code. So frustrating!!!

•I just triple-checked all the tabs including Decisions and don't see anything flagged. My work search activities are all logged correctly too. I'm wondering if it's just stuck in some system backlog that I can't see. I'll definitely call tomorrow and if I can't get through I'll try that Claimyr service someone mentioned.

I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned last month when my payments were stuck. Got through to ESD in about 20 minutes after trying for days on my own with no luck. The agent saw right away that my weekly claims were stuck in some review queue that wasn't visible on my account. She processed them manually and I got paid 2 days later. Definitely worth it when you're desperate!

•That's good to hear! I'm definitely at the desperate point now. I'll give ESD one more try on my own tomorrow morning and then use the service if I can't get through.

One other thing to check - make sure your payment method is still set correctly in your account. Sometimes after the initial approval, the system resets payment preferences or there's a verification issue with direct deposit that isn't clearly indicated. If you're set up for direct deposit, consider temporarily switching to the debit card option to see if that resolves the issue. I've seen cases where this mysterious processing delay was related to payment method verification.

UPDATE: Finally got through to ESD this morning! The agent confirmed my weekly claims were stuck in an automated review queue because of a "system flag" that wasn't visible on my account. Apparently, there was some question about my job separation reason that had already been resolved during adjudication, but it somehow got flagged again for the subsequent weeks. She manually reviewed and processed both weeks right there on the phone. The payments should hit my account within 48 hours! She also made a note on my account to prevent this from happening with future weekly claims. For anyone else dealing with this issue - definitely call ESD directly and ask specifically about "hidden system flags" or "automated review queues" that might be holding up your payments. Don't just accept the generic "it's still processing" answer. Thanks everyone for your help!

•That's great news! This is exactly the kind of hidden system flag issue I was referring to. Glad you were able to get through and have it resolved. The fact that she added a note to prevent future occurrences is especially helpful - many agents don't think to do that.
