ESD claim stuck in adjudication since June 30th - no payments yet and might find job soon
I've been checking my ESD portal every day for weeks and my claim is still showing 'pending' status after going into adjudication on June 30th. It's been 4 weeks now with zero updates. The strange thing is they haven't asked for any additional documents or information from me. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously but haven't received a single payment. I'm starting to get really worried about bills piling up. I have a couple interviews lined up next week that look promising. What happens if I actually land a job before this adjudication mess gets sorted out? Will I still get backpay for these weeks I've been waiting? Has anyone had their claim stuck in adjudication hell for this long without any communication from ESD? Any advice on what I should do next would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately this is pretty common with ESD these days. Adjudication can take anywhere from 3-8 weeks depending on their current backlog and the complexity of your claim. If you find a job before it resolves, you should absolutely still get paid for all the eligible weeks you've been filing claims while unemployed - those are separate from your future employment. Just make sure you report any work and earnings accurately on your weekly claims once you start working. Did you check your secure message center in your ESD account? Sometimes they send requests for information there without sending an email notification.

•Thanks for the quick response! I checked the secure message center and there's nothing there either. No messages, no requests, just complete silence from ESD. That's what makes this so frustrating - I have no idea if there's something holding things up that I could fix or if it's just a waiting game. 3-8 weeks is a HUGE range... I'm already struggling to pay rent.

hang in there! my claim was stuck for 6 weeks last year and then suddenly got approved all at once. got all my backpay in one big deposit which was actually kinda nice lol. just keep filing those weekly claims!

•That's encouraging to hear. Did they ever tell you what caused the delay or did it just magically resolve itself?

If you have job interviews lined up, you should get on STANDBY status immediately!!! When you're on standby you don't have to do the 3 job search activities each week because ESD knows you're expecting to return to work soon. You can request standby for up to 8 weeks I think??? But you have to specifically request it through your account or by phone. Don't just assume they'll know you might get hired soon.

•That's not correct. Standby status is primarily for when you have a definite return date with your previous employer or have a job offer with a specific start date more than a week away. Having interviews lined up doesn't qualify you for standby. You still need to conduct your job search activities until you actually secure employment.

The absolute worst part of dealing with ESD is reaching an actual human being who can check on your claim status. I was in adjudication for 5 weeks earlier this year and called literally 23 times without getting through. Then I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Once I actually spoke with someone, they found that my claim was held up because of a simple verification issue they could fix on the spot. Might be worth trying if you're getting desperate for answers.

•I've never heard of this service before. Did they actually help resolve your issue or just connect you to ESD? I'm getting pretty desperate at this point so I might check it out.

•They just connect you to an ESD rep - they don't handle your claim directly. But getting through to an actual ESD person is the hardest part! Once I got connected, the agent was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and fixed it while I was on the phone. Worth it in my situation because waiting another 3 weeks would have been financially devastating.

I work with unemployment claims frequently and here's what you need to know: 1. Adjudication timeframes in 2025 are currently averaging 4-6 weeks for standard issues. 2. If you find employment, you absolutely will still receive benefits for all eligible weeks you properly claimed while unemployed. Your new employment only affects future weeks. 3. Make sure you continue filing weekly claims even if you're not receiving payments yet. This is critical for ensuring you get full backpay. 4. For claims in adjudication, ESD typically only requests additional information if something specific is flagged. No contact usually means they're simply working through verification steps on their end. 5. If you reach week 6 with no resolution, I would recommend trying to speak with an agent directly as there might be a simple issue that's not visible to you in your online portal. Hope this helps provide some clarity on the situation.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I'll definitely keep filing my weeklies even if I find work. I guess I'll give it another 2 weeks before I really start panicking, but I might try to reach an agent sooner just to see if there's something simple holding things up.

The ESD system is COMPLETELY BROKEN!!! I was stuck in adjudication for 12 WEEKS last year and couldn't pay my rent and almost got evicted!! Then they had the NERVE to say I didn't provide documents that THEY NEVER ASKED FOR!! The whole system is designed to make people give up. Keep calling them EVERY DAY until someone helps you!!!

•I don't think calling every day helps... they just have a queue system and calling repeatedly doesn't move you up in line. It just ties up the phone lines more and makes it harder for everyone to get through.

One thing nobody has mentioned - check your spam folder for emails from ESD. I had a claim in adjudication and they sent a request for documents that went straight to my spam folder. I didn't see it for 3 weeks and that delayed everything. Also double check that the contact info in your ESD profile is 100% correct - wrong phone numbers are a common issue.

•That's a great suggestion - just checked my spam folder and thankfully there's nothing from ESD there. I also verified all my contact info is correct. It really does seem like I'm just stuck waiting.

One final piece of advice - document everything. Keep a log of all your weekly claims with confirmation numbers, take screenshots of your claim status showing the adjudication date, and note any attempts to contact ESD. If there are any issues with backpay once your claim is processed, this documentation will be crucial for proving you did everything correctly on your end.

•I'll start doing this right away - thank you! I have my weekly claim confirmations but haven't been taking screenshots of the status page. Will start today and backdate notes as best I can.
