ESD adjudication stuck for 4 weeks with zero updates - anyone else waiting this long?

I've been in adjudication limbo with ESD for 4 weeks now and I'm getting seriously worried. My claim shows 'pending adjudication' but there's been zero movement or communication from them. The last thing I got was that auto-generated email saying my claim needed additional review. I was laid off from my restaurant management job after our location closed, and I've been submitting my weekly claims faithfully but still no payments. I've called the ESD hotline at least 15 times - either get disconnected or told the wait is 4+ hours. Tried sending messages through eServices but no response there either. Bills are piling up and my savings are almost gone. My rent is due next week and I don't know what I'll do if this doesn't resolve soon. For anyone who's been through adjudication recently - how long did yours take before you got an actual decision? Is 4 weeks normal or should I be more concerned at this point? I'm seriously losing sleep over this.

Unfortunately, 4 weeks is actually on the shorter end of what I've seen lately. My adjudication took 7 weeks to resolve earlier this year (January 2025). The system is completely backed up right now - I heard they lost a bunch of staff after the pandemic funding dried up. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even without getting paid, because once they approve you, you'll get all the back weeks paid at once.

7 WEEKS?? That's insane - how do they expect people to survive that long without income? I guess I should brace myself for another month of this nightmare. Thanks for the tip about keeping up with weekly claims though.

mines took 9 weeks to clear but my sister got her aproved in like 2 weeks so i think it depends on ur sitution. did u have any issues with ur employer or quit or something?? those take longer i think

No, our whole restaurant closed down permanently so it was a straightforward layoff. Nothing complicated at all! That's what's so frustrating - it should be a simple case.

The issue you're facing is unfortunately common. Here's what might help speed things up: 1. Submit your job search logs meticulously - make sure you're doing all 3 required activities each week 2. Check if your employer correctly reported your job separation reason to ESD 3. Look in your eServices notices section to see if there are any fact-finding questionnaires you need to complete 4. If you've worked multiple jobs in your base year, sometimes that triggers additional review Also, if your adjudication is due to a simple verification issue rather than a dispute with your employer, those typically resolve faster. You might want to check if there are any identity verification requests you might have missed.

Thank you for this detailed information! I've been completing all my job search activities (actually doing more than 3 per week). I'll double-check the notices section to make sure I haven't missed anything. I did only work at the one restaurant during my base year, so hopefully that's not the holdup.

I'm on week 3 of adjudication too!! This is so stressful! Anyone know if contacting our state representatives actually helps speed things up? I've heard some people say that works.

In some cases, contacting your state representative can help, especially if there's been a clear error or extremely long delay. However, for standard adjudication reviews taking 4-8 weeks, they might not be able to expedite the process. If you're approaching week 8 without resolution, that would be a good time to reach out to your representative.

I've had success using Claimyr to get through to an actual ESD agent. It costs money but after weeks of not being able to reach anyone, it was worth it for me. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Basically they hold your place in the phone queue and call you back when an agent is about to pick up. I was able to find out exactly why my claim was stuck (missing document they never told me about) and got it resolved within a week after that call.

ESD IS A COMPLETE JOKE!! I waited TWELVE WEEKS for adjudication earlier this year! TWELVE!!! I filed complaints everywhere and it did NOTHING. Meanwhile they expect us to keep looking for work and filing claims like we can survive on AIR!!! The system is BROKEN and they don't care at all. My adjudicator finally called and spent 5 minutes asking basic questions, then approved me the next day. So it took them 2 SECONDS to actually do their job after making me wait 3 MONTHS!!!!!

This is absolutely terrifying to hear... I honestly don't know how I'll survive if this takes 12 weeks. Did they at least pay you for all the back weeks once you were approved?

Yes they did pay all the back weeks but by then I was behind on EVERYTHING and had to use most of it to pay off credit card debt from surviving those 3 months. My credit score tanked from the late payments too. The whole system is designed to make you give up!!

Have you checked your spam folder? I know this sounds basic, but I missed an important fact-finding questionnaire because it went to spam, and that added three weeks to my adjudication time. Also, did you upload your ID verification documents? That's another common holdup.

Good thinking - just checked my spam folder and there's nothing from ESD there. And yes, I did the ID verification right when I applied with my driver's license and social security card. I'm starting to think my file is just sitting in a digital pile somewhere being ignored.

One other thing to check - log into your SAW account (not just eServices) and make sure there aren't any messages or tasks there. Sometimes communications get sent to your SAW inbox rather than your eServices messages. Also, make sure your contact information is up to date in both systems. I've seen cases where someone's phone number was entered incorrectly, and ESD was trying to call them for weeks with no success.

I didn't think to check SAW separately - will do that right away. My contact info should all be correct, but I'll verify everything. Thanks for the suggestions!

My friend who works at WorkSource told me that if you go into a WorkSource office in person, sometimes they can check on your claim status or at least give you more info than you can see online. Might be worth trying that route too!

This is good advice. WorkSource offices can't directly adjudicate claims, but they often have direct communication channels with ESD and can sometimes see notes on your account that aren't visible to you through eServices. They can also help identify if there's something specific holding up your claim.

Just wanted to update everyone that after my 6-week adjudication nightmare, I finally got approved last week. For me, what ultimately worked was persistently calling first thing when they open at 8:00 AM. I called exactly at 8:00 three days in a row and finally got through on the third day. The agent was able to see that my claim was just sitting there with no issues, but nobody had been assigned to review it. She escalated it and I got approved two days later. So if you can manage to get through to someone, it might help speed things up.

Congrats on getting approved! I'll try the 8:00 AM approach starting tomorrow. It's frustrating that the only way to get movement is to somehow break through their impossible phone system, but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.
