ESD application stuck on pending for 3 weeks - normal wait time?

I submitted my unemployment application on December 16th and it's still showing as 'pending' after 3 weeks. I've been diligently filing my weekly claims as required, but there's been zero movement on my initial application status. Is this normal processing time with ESD these days? I'm starting to get worried since rent is coming up and I didn't anticipate such a long wait. Anyone else experience this lately? How long did your application take to get approved?

mine took 5 weeks to go from pending to approved last month... ESD is crazy slow right now

Seriously? 5 weeks? That's so much longer than I expected. Did you get backpay for all those weeks once approved?

The current processing time for new applications can range from 3-6 weeks depending on your claim complexity. If your application requires adjudication (which happens if there's anything they need to verify), it can take even longer. A few things to check: 1. Look for any alerts in your eServices account that might indicate missing information 2. Check if you received any letters in the mail from ESD 3. Make sure you're completing your weekly claims on time while waiting If your application is simple and straightforward (laid off, clear employment history), it should be on the shorter end of that timeframe.

Thanks for the detailed info! I don't see any alerts in my account, and I'm definitely doing my weekly claims on time. Is there any way to check if my application went to adjudication? The website just shows 'pending' with no other details.

IT TOOK ME 9 WEEKS!!!!!! And ESD never sent me ANY notifications about why it was taking so long. I called them like 35 times and couldn't get through until finally someone picked up and told me they needed additional info from my previous employer that they never bothered to tell ME about!!! The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN. You need to call them ASAP!!

9 weeks?? I can't wait that long! Did you get paid for all those weeks once they finally approved you?

Yes I got back pay for all the weeks I claimed but it doesn't help when you're about to be EVICTED because you can't pay rent for 2+ months!!! The stress nearly killed me.

My brother-in-law applied in November and got approved in like 10 days. So I think it really depends on your situation. Did you have multiple employers? Or quit instead of being laid off? Those things can make it take way longer.

10 days??? That's not normal at all. ESD's own website says 3-4 weeks is standard processing time right now. Either your brother-in-law got incredibly lucky or there's something unusual about his claim. For most people, especially with the current volume of claims after the holiday layoffs, it's taking 3-6 weeks minimum.

I went through this exact situation last month. My application was stuck on pending for almost 4 weeks. I tried calling ESD dozens of times but never got through because of "high call volume" and kept getting disconnected. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me past the phone queues and connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes. The agent told me my claim needed one simple verification that they hadn't processed yet. They fixed it on the spot and my claim was approved 2 days later. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Definitely worth it because waiting around for weeks with no information is incredibly stressful.

I've never heard of this service before. Did it actually work? I've been trying to call for days with no luck.

Yes, it worked exactly as advertised. Got me through to an actual person who could check my claim details and resolve the issue. Much better than waiting weeks in the dark wondering what's happening.

One important thing to mention - if your claim requires adjudication (which happens if there's any discrepancy or question about your eligibility), the wait time significantly increases. The fastest way to check if you're in adjudication is to speak with an agent directly. In the meantime, continue filing your weekly claims on time. If your application is ultimately approved, you'll receive back payments for all weeks properly claimed during this waiting period. Also check your Uploaded Documents section in eServices to see if they've requested any additional documentation.

Thanks for this advice. I finally managed to get through to ESD this morning after trying the phone trick someone mentioned above. Turns out my claim did go to adjudication because my employer disputed my hours. The agent said they're working through a backlog but estimated 2-3 more weeks. At least now I know what's happening!
