How long to get ESD approval after applying? Stuck in 'processing' for 2 weeks
I submitted my unemployment application through the ESD website about 2 weeks ago, and my status is still showing as 'processing.' This is my first time filing for unemployment after being laid off from my construction job (company lost a major contract). I verified my identity through ID.me right away and uploaded all the requested documents. My eServices dashboard just says 'pending' with no additional info. Is this normal wait time in 2025, or should I be worried? How long did it take for others to get approved? I'm starting to stress about bills piling up.

The typical processing time is 1-3 weeks for straightforward claims, but it can definitely take longer if there are any issues that require adjudication. Did you receive any notifications about missing information or requests for an interview? Make sure you're checking both your eServices messages AND your email (including spam). Also, don't forget you still need to file weekly claims while waiting for approval - many people miss this step!

•Thanks for the info! I haven't received any notifications about missing info, and I've been filing my weekly claims. I've checked spam too. I guess I'll keep waiting, but it's nerve-wracking not knowing if there's an issue or if this is just normal processing time.

mine took 6 WEEKS to get approved!!! the esd system is completely broken. they never tell u whats going on and u just have to wait and hope. keep filing ur weekly claims and eventually they'll either approve or ask for more info. its ridiculous how they expect people to survive while waiting!!!!

•Same experience here - took over a month just to get ANY update. The system is definitely overwhelmed right now.

Have you tried calling them directly? I was stuck in processing for almost 3 weeks, then I discovered Claimyr.com which got me through to an actual ESD agent after I'd been trying to call on my own for days. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim (they needed to verify my last employer's information) and fixed it while I was on the phone. Got approved 2 days later.

•I didn't know this was an option! I've called the regular ESD number a couple times but always get the message about high call volume. I'll check out that website, thanks for the tip.

•does that actually work? i've heard about it but seems kinda sketch to use a third party service for something like unemployment

•@profile8 It definitely worked for me. It just helps you get through the phone system to an actual ESD agent - you're still talking directly to ESD once connected. After trying for days to get through on my own and getting nowhere, it was worth it to finally talk to someone who could actually help with my claim.

Your timing is actually pretty normal for initial claims right now. The average processing time I've been seeing in my job network (I work in HR) is about 2-3 weeks, but can be up to 5-6 weeks depending on your specific situation. Here are some factors that might extend your wait time: 1. If your employer contests the claim 2. If you worked for multiple employers in your base year 3. If you had any periods of self-employment 4. If there were unusual circumstances around your separation As others have mentioned, KEEP FILING YOUR WEEKLY CLAIMS! This is super important. Once approved, you'll get paid retroactively for all eligible weeks you've properly filed for.

•Thank you for the detailed information! I did work for two different companies in the past 18 months, so maybe that's slowing things down. It's reassuring to hear that 2-3 weeks isn't unusual.

•Exactly! They tell you to have 3-6 months of expenses saved but who actually has that in this economy???

When I applied last year my claim got stuck in processing because I didn't realize they sent me a questionnaire that went to my spam folder. Definitely check all email folders carefully. Once I found it and responded, my claim was approved within 3 days. Also make sure your contact info is up to date in your eServices account.

One more thing - make sure you're meeting the job search requirements while waiting! You need to document at least 3 job search activities each week. Keep detailed records of everything - position, company, application method, contact info, etc. ESD can audit your job search logs even months later, and if they find you weren't meeting requirements, you could be asked to repay benefits.

•Yes, I've been keeping track of all my job applications and logging them in the system. Is attending a WorkSource workshop counted as one of the activities? I saw something about that on the website.

•Yes! WorkSource workshops definitely count as job search activities. In fact, they're one of the best activities because they're easily verifiable by ESD. Just make sure you get documentation of your attendance for your records.

I'm in a similar situation - filed 2.5 weeks ago and still showing "processing" status. What's really frustrating is the lack of communication from ESD. A simple automated update like "your claim is being reviewed, estimated completion in X days" would help so much with the anxiety. I've been diligent about filing weekly claims and checking messages, but the uncertainty is the worst part. Has anyone found that contacting their state representative's office helps speed things up? I've heard mixed results but wondering if it's worth trying at this point.

•I contacted my state rep's office when I was at the 4 week mark and they actually did submit an inquiry to ESD on my behalf! Got a response within a week saying my claim was approved. Not sure if it was coincidence or if their inquiry actually helped move things along, but it's definitely worth trying if you're past the 3 week mark. They have staff specifically trained to help with ESD issues and it doesn't cost anything. Just call their constituent services line and explain your situation.
