ESD claim showing 'waiting for further information' but no way to submit - employer issue?
I got laid off from my warehouse job last Thursday and immediately filed for unemployment benefits that same day. Today marks the end of my waiting week, but my claim is still showing as 'pending' in the ESD portal. When I check the 'pending issues' tab, it says 'waiting for further information' but there's nowhere for me to submit anything additional! I've already uploaded my ID docs and filled out all the sections they asked for. Is this normal at this stage? Does it mean ESD is waiting to hear back from my former employer? I'm getting a bit anxious because my savings won't last long and I really need these benefits to start soon. Should I call them or just wait it out for a few more days? Anyone else dealt with this mysterious 'waiting for further information' status recently?

Yes, this is actually pretty normal! When it says "waiting for further information" but doesn't give you any way to submit more info, it typically means they're waiting on verification from your employer. Your employer has 10 business days to respond to ESD about your separation. Most of the time, your claim will stay in this status until either: 1) your employer responds, or 2) the 10-day timeframe expires. I'd give it at least another 5-7 business days before getting too concerned. Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims during this time - that's super important!

•Phew, thanks for explaining! That's a relief. Is there anything I can do to speed things up, or am I basically at the mercy of my former employer responding quickly?

had the same thing last month took FOREVER!!! my boss was being a jerk and took all 10 days to respond and then ESD took another week to process everything. almost couldn't make rent

•Oh no, that sounds stressful! I'm worried my ex-employer might drag their feet too. Did you ever try calling ESD to check on status when waiting?

it's not always the employer they might be validating your identity if you haven't had an unemployment claim before. i went through this and just had to wait. make sure u keep filing every week even if its pending!!!!!!!!

•Thanks for the tip about filing weekly claims even while it's pending. I'll definitely keep doing that! This is my first time on unemployment, so maybe they are doing extra identity checks.

This is definitely part of ESD's normal process. When a claim shows "waiting for further information" with no action items for you, it means one of three things: 1. They're waiting for employer response (most common) 2. They're doing internal verification of your identity documents 3. They're cross-checking with other state systems During this time, you MUST continue filing your weekly claims, even though they won't pay out until the pending issue is resolved. If you don't file weekly claims, you'll lose those weeks of benefits permanently. If it stays in this status for more than 14 days, then it's worth trying to contact ESD. Their phone lines are absolutely swamped though, so prepare for a frustrating experience.

•Thank you for breaking it down so clearly! I'll mark my calendar for 14 days from now and try contacting them if nothing changes by then.

I'm going through the EXACT same thing right now!! Filed two weeks ago after getting laid off from my restaurant job, and I'm stuck with "waiting for further information" but nothing to upload. So frustrating! Let me know if yours gets resolved and I'll do the same.

•It's weirdly comforting to know I'm not alone in this! I'll definitely update here if my status changes, and please do the same if yours gets resolved first.

I had this issue back in January. My claim was stuck in pending for almost 3 weeks because my employer didn't respond right away. What finally worked was getting through to an actual ESD agent who could explain exactly what was happening and nudge things along. I wasted SO much time trying to call the regular ESD number and getting disconnected or waiting for hours. Then someone told me about Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it's a service that basically holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. Seriously saved my sanity and the agent I spoke with was able to see that my employer hadn't responded and pushed my claim through after verifying my info.

•Thanks for sharing this! I think I'll give the regular ESD line one more try next week, but if that doesn't work out, I'll definitely look into Claimyr. It sounds way better than spending all day hitting redial!

lot of people think theres something wrong with there claim BUT its nromal part of the process. ESD always says waiting for info when they checking with employer. just be patient and dont miss any weekly claims

•Thanks for the reassurance! I'll try to be patient and focus on keeping up with my weekly claims in the meantime.

UPDATE: My claim just got approved today! It took exactly 11 business days from when I first applied. Looks like my employer responded right at the end of their 10-day window. Thanks everyone for the advice and support!

•Congrats! Mine's still pending but this gives me hope! When did your status change from "waiting for further information"?

•@Omar Hassan It changed from waiting "for further information to" approved "sometime" overnight - I checked yesterday evening and it was still pending, then this morning it showed approved with my payment amount! Hang in there, yours should update soon!

•That's awesome news! Really happy for you getting through that stressful waiting period. Did you end up getting backpay for all the weeks you were pending, or just from when it got approved?
