ESD claim stuck on 'pending - waiting for information' but received no letters - what's happening?

I'm so confused about my unemployment claim status. I filed about 10 days ago, and when I log in to my ESD account, it shows my claim as 'pending' but underneath it says 'waiting for information'. I've checked my online notices, my email, and even my mailbox every day, but there's nothing explaining what information they're waiting for. No letters, no alerts, nothing in my action items. Has anyone else dealt with this? Am I supposed to do something or just wait? This is my first time filing for unemployment after my contract at the tech company I was working for wasn't renewed. Really stressing about bills coming up...

That 'waiting for information' status usually means ESD needs to verify something about your claim but hasn't assigned it to an agent yet. It could be identity verification, employment history, or they might need to contact your previous employer. Unfortunately, it's a waiting game at this point - they'll eventually either send you a questionnaire or your status will change when they get what they need from your employer. Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims while you wait!

Thanks for explaining! So there's nothing I should be doing right now? I'm definitely filing my weekly claims, just worried I'm missing something they need from me.

'Waiting for information' doesn't ALWAYS mean they need something from you. Sometimes it means they're waiting for info from your employer about your separation. But here's what you should check: 1. Look at your account under 'Notices' tab, not just the main page 2. Check your spam folder for emails from ESD 3. If you uploaded identity docs when you applied, make sure they were clear/readable 4. Make sure your address is correct in the system If you're really concerned, you NEED to talk to an agent. Good luck getting through though - I spent THREE DAYS trying to reach someone last month.

I had the exact same issue trying to reach ESD! I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent in about 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - definitely worth it when you're stuck in pending status with bills piling up.

DONT JUST WAIT!!!!! Sometimes their system messes up and they THINK they sent you something when they didn't!! This happened to me and my claim was pending for SIX WEEKS before I finally got through to someone who told me they were waiting for me to respond to a questionnaire I NEVER RECEIVED!! By then I almost lost my apartment!!!!

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! I definitely haven't received any questionnaires. Did you have to start your claim over?

This is a fairly common status, especially for first-time claimants. Here's what's most likely happening: - ESD's automated system is processing your claim and may be waiting for wage verification from your previous employer - The system could be running an automated identity verification against various databases - Sometimes claims get flagged for manual review based on specific criteria (industry changes, large wage differences between quarters, etc.) What's interesting is that if they needed something specifically from you, you'd typically get an alert in your online portal or a letter. Since you haven't received either, it's most likely an internal process on their end. My advice: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims without fail 2. Check your online account daily for notices 3. If it's been more than 3 weeks in this status, then it's time to contact them directly If your claim is approved, you'll receive all eligible back payments for the weeks you properly filed.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I'll keep filing weekly claims and monitoring my account. I've been checking daily and nothing yet, but I'll give it another week before trying to contact them directly.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Their system is so glitchy with notifications. I've heard dozens of stories of people whose claims were delayed for weeks or months because ESD was "waiting" for information they never actually requested from the claimant. Always best to be proactive and check rather than just waiting.
