ESD claim stuck on 'pending - waiting for information' but received no letters - what's happening?

I'm so confused about my unemployment claim status. I filed about 10 days ago, and when I log in to my ESD account, it shows my claim as 'pending' but underneath it says 'waiting for information'. I've checked my online notices, my email, and even my mailbox every day, but there's nothing explaining what information they're waiting for. No letters, no alerts, nothing in my action items. Has anyone else dealt with this? Am I supposed to do something or just wait? This is my first time filing for unemployment after my contract at the tech company I was working for wasn't renewed. Really stressing about bills coming up...

That 'waiting for information' status usually means ESD needs to verify something about your claim but hasn't assigned it to an agent yet. It could be identity verification, employment history, or they might need to contact your previous employer. Unfortunately, it's a waiting game at this point - they'll eventually either send you a questionnaire or your status will change when they get what they need from your employer. Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims while you wait!

Thanks for explaining! So there's nothing I should be doing right now? I'm definitely filing my weekly claims, just worried I'm missing something they need from me.

same thing happened to me last month!! waited for like 3 weeks with that message before anything changed. keep doing your weekly claims!!!

Waiting for' information'doesn t ALWAYS mean they need something from you. Sometimes it means'they re waiting for info from your employer about your separation. But'here s what you should check: 1. Look at your account 'under' Notices tab, not just the main page 2. Check your spam folder for emails from ESD 3. If you uploaded identity docs when you applied, make sure they were clear/readable 4. Make sure your address is correct in the system If'you re really concerned, you NEED to talk to an agent. Good luck getting through though - I spent THREE DAYS trying to reach someone lastmonth.

I had the exact same issue trying to reach ESD! I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent in about 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - definitely worth it when you're stuck in pending status with bills piling up.

DONT JUST WAIT!!!!! Sometimes their system messes up and they THINK they sent you something when they didn't!! This happened to me and my claim was pending for SIX WEEKS before I finally got through to someone who told me they were waiting for me to respond to a questionnaire I NEVER RECEIVED!! By then I almost lost my apartment!!!!

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! I definitely haven't received any questionnaires. Did you have to start your claim over?

no they fixed it and then backdated all my payments but it was INCREDIBLY stressful. the system is completely broken!!!!

This is a fairly common status, especially for first-time claimants. Here's what's most likely happening: - ESD's automated system is processing your claim and may be waiting for wage verification from your previous employer - The system could be running an automated identity verification against various databases - Sometimes claims get flagged for manual review based on specific criteria (industry changes, large wage differences between quarters, etc.) What's interesting is that if they needed something specifically from you, you'd typically get an alert in your online portal or a letter. Since you haven't received either, it's most likely an internal process on their end. My advice: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims without fail 2. Check your online account daily for notices 3. If it's been more than 3 weeks in this status, then it's time to contact them directly If your claim is approved, you'll receive all eligible back payments for the weeks you properly filed.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I'll keep filing weekly claims and monitoring my account. I've been checking daily and nothing yet, but I'll give it another week before trying to contact them directly.

hey i had this too an it turned out they were waiting on identity verification but the letter went to my old address even tho i updated it in the system 🙄 you should try calling them to see whats going on. its super annoying they dont just tell you what theyre waiting for on the website

This is exactly what I was talking about. Their system is so glitchy with notifications. I've heard dozens of stories of people whose claims were delayed for weeks or months because ESD was "waiting" for information they never actually requested from the claimant. Always best to be proactive and check rather than just waiting.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed my claim 2 weeks ago and it's been stuck on "pending - waiting for information" the whole time. Like you, I've checked everywhere - online notices, email, spam folder, mailbox - nothing. It's so frustrating that they don't tell you WHAT information they're waiting for or WHO they're waiting to get it from. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously just in case, but the uncertainty is killing me. Really hoping it resolves soon for both of us! Keep us posted if your status changes.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one dealing with this! It's really reassuring to know others are in the same boat. The lack of transparency is definitely the worst part - like, just tell us what you're waiting for! I've been doing the same thing with filing weekly claims just to be safe. Hopefully we'll both see some movement soon. I'll definitely update here if anything changes on my end. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago! Mine was stuck on "pending - waiting for information" for almost 4 weeks with zero communication. Turns out they were waiting for my former employer to respond to their separation verification request, but there was no way for me to know that from my end. What finally worked was calling the customer service line first thing in the morning (I called right at 8am when they opened) and got through after about 45 minutes on hold. The agent was able to tell me exactly what they were waiting for and even sent a follow-up request to my employer. My claim was approved within 3 days after that call. Don't just wait - be proactive! The system definitely has communication gaps, but the agents can usually tell you what's actually happening behind the scenes.

This is really helpful to know! I've been hesitant to call because I keep hearing horror stories about wait times, but knowing that you got through in 45 minutes by calling right at 8am gives me hope. I think I'm going to try that tomorrow morning. It's been 10 days for me so far, and based on what everyone's saying, it sounds like being proactive is definitely the way to go rather than just hoping it resolves on its own. Thanks for sharing what worked for you - fingers crossed I have similar luck!

I'm dealing with this exact same situation right now - filed 8 days ago and stuck on the same "pending - waiting for information" status with absolutely no communication about what they need! It's so stressful not knowing if I'm supposed to be doing something or just waiting. Reading through everyone's experiences here, it sounds like the system really does have major communication issues. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning right at 8am like Jasmine suggested - seems like that's the only way to actually find out what's going on behind the scenes. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories, it's oddly comforting to know this is a common issue even though it shouldn't be!

I'm in the exact same boat! Filed 12 days ago and have been stuck on that same "pending - waiting for information" status with zero communication. It's incredibly frustrating that their system doesn't just tell us what information they're waiting for or who they're waiting to hear from. I've been checking my account obsessively and filing my weekly claims just in case, but the uncertainty is really getting to me. Based on all these stories, it sounds like calling is really the only way to get answers. I'm definitely going to try the 8am strategy too - hopefully we can both get some clarity soon! This whole experience is making me realize how broken their communication system really is.

I'm going through the exact same thing! Filed my claim about 2 weeks ago and it's been stuck on "pending - waiting for information" with absolutely no communication from ESD. Like everyone else here, I've checked my online notices, email, spam folder, and physical mail daily - nothing! It's so frustrating that their system doesn't just tell you what specific information they're waiting for or whether it's something they need from you vs. your employer. I've been religiously filing my weekly claims just to be safe, but the uncertainty is really stressing me out with rent due soon. Reading all these experiences, it sounds like the 8am calling strategy might be my best bet to actually get some answers. Thanks everyone for sharing - it's oddly reassuring to know this communication gap is a widespread issue, even though it really shouldn't be!

I'm in the exact same situation! Filed about 2 weeks ago and have been stuck on that dreaded "pending - waiting for information" status with zero communication. It's so reassuring to read everyone's experiences here - misery loves company, right? The lack of transparency from ESD is honestly the most stressful part. Like, just tell us what you're waiting for! I've been doing all the same things - checking my account multiple times daily, filing weekly claims religiously, refreshing my email constantly. The uncertainty is killing me too, especially with bills coming up. Based on all the advice here, I'm definitely going to try the 8am calling strategy tomorrow. Fingers crossed we all get some movement on our claims soon! This whole system really needs an overhaul.

I feel for everyone going through this! I had the exact same issue about 3 months ago - filed my claim and got stuck on "pending - waiting for information" for almost 5 weeks with absolutely no communication. Like many of you, I checked everything obsessively and kept filing my weekly claims. What I learned from my experience is that ESD's system is really bad at communicating what's happening behind the scenes. In my case, they were waiting for wage verification from my previous employer, but there was literally no way for me to know that from looking at my account. I finally got through by calling right at 8am on a Tuesday (seemed less busy than Mondays) and the agent cleared everything up in 10 minutes. My advice: don't wait too long to call - the "just wait and see" approach can cost you weeks of benefits. The peace of mind alone is worth the phone call hassle. Hang in there everyone!

Thanks for sharing your experience, Emma! It's really helpful to hear from someone who actually got through this process. I'm curious - when you finally got through to the agent, did they tell you how long they had been waiting for the wage verification? And did you get all your back payments once it was resolved? I'm at about the 10-day mark now and trying to decide if I should wait another week or just bite the bullet and try calling tomorrow. The Tuesday timing tip is really good to know too - I hadn't thought about which day might be less busy!

I went through this exact same situation about 8 months ago! Filed my claim and it was stuck on "pending - waiting for information" for over 3 weeks with absolutely no communication from ESD. Just like you, I checked my online account daily, my email, spam folder, physical mailbox - nothing! The worst part is not knowing if you're supposed to be doing something or if they're waiting on someone else. In my case, it turned out they were waiting for my former employer to respond to a separation verification request, but I had no way of knowing that. What finally worked was calling their customer service line right at 8am when they opened (I used the 833-572-8400 number). Took about an hour on hold, but the agent was able to see exactly what was happening and even expedited the process. Got my approval within a few days after that call and received all my back payments. My advice: don't just wait indefinitely - after 2-3 weeks in that status, definitely call to get clarity. The uncertainty is the worst part, but there's usually a simple explanation once you can actually talk to someone!

This is incredibly helpful, thank you Skylar! I'm at the 10-day mark now and your experience gives me hope that there's actually a simple explanation behind all this waiting. The 833-572-8400 number is really useful too - I've been wondering which number to call since there seem to be several. An hour on hold doesn't sound fun, but it's definitely better than weeks of uncertainty! Did you have to provide any additional documentation when you called, or were they able to resolve everything just by talking to you? I think I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning - this thread has convinced me that being proactive is definitely the way to go rather than just hoping it magically resolves itself.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed my claim about 9 days ago and have been stuck on that "pending - waiting for information" status with absolutely zero communication from ESD. Like everyone else here, I've been checking my online account obsessively, my email, spam folder, and even called my post office to make sure they weren't holding any mail. Nothing! It's so frustrating that their system can't just tell you what specific information they're waiting for or whether it's something internal vs. something they need from you. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously just in case, but the stress is really getting to me with my mortgage payment coming up next week. Reading through all these experiences, it's both comforting and alarming to see how common this communication breakdown is. I think I'm going to try the 8am calling strategy that several people mentioned - seems like that's the only way to actually get answers. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories - at least now I know I'm not alone in this confusing process!

I'm in almost the exact same situation! Filed 11 days ago and stuck on that same "pending - waiting for information" status with zero communication. It's honestly mind-boggling that in 2025 they can't just tell us what information they're waiting for or give us a timeline. I've been doing the same obsessive checking routine - account, email, mailbox, even my neighbor's mailbox in case it was misdelivered! The mortgage stress is so real too. Based on everyone's advice here, I'm definitely going to try calling at 8am tomorrow. It sounds like that's literally the only way to break through this communication black hole. Hang in there - from what I'm reading, most people do eventually get their claims approved and get all the back payments once they can actually talk to someone!

I'm dealing with this exact same situation! Filed my claim 6 days ago and it's been stuck on "pending - waiting for information" since day one. Just like everyone else here, I've checked my online notices, email spam folder, and mailbox daily - absolutely nothing explaining what they need. The lack of communication is honestly the most frustrating part. Reading through all these experiences, it's clear this is a widespread issue with ESD's system. I've been filing my weekly claims just to be safe, but the uncertainty is really stressing me out. Based on all the advice here about calling at 8am, I think I'm going to try that approach this week rather than just waiting indefinitely. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories - it's both reassuring and concerning to see how common this communication gap is!

I'm going through the exact same thing! Filed about a week ago and have been stuck on that "pending - waiting for information" status with absolutely no communication from ESD. It's so frustrating that their system doesn't give us any transparency about what's actually happening behind the scenes. Like you, I've been checking everything obsessively - online account, email, spam folder, mailbox - and filing my weekly claims religiously just in case. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been both reassuring and eye-opening about how broken their communication system really is. I think I'm going to follow the advice about calling at 8am sharp - seems like that's the only reliable way to actually get answers and break through this information black hole. Hoping we both see some movement soon! This whole process really shouldn't be this stressful and confusing.
