ESD claim shows 'active' status but no payments for a month - what's wrong?
I'm so confused and frustrated with the ESD system right now. My unemployment claim has been showing a status of 'active' for over a month, and I've been faithfully filing my weekly claims every Sunday without fail. But I haven't received a single payment or any communication from ESD explaining what's happening. The eServices account just shows 'active' with no other information or alerts. No pending issues, no adjudication notices, nothing. I've tried calling at least 15 times but can't get through to anyone. How can my claim be 'active' if they're not actually paying me? Is there something else I need to do that I'm missing? This is seriously stressing me out as my savings are almost gone.

'Active' just means your claim is established in the system, but it doesn't mean you're being paid. There's probably an issue that needs to be resolved before payments can be released. Check the 'Decisions' tab and the 'Pending Issues' section of your eServices account. There might be something there that's not obvious on the main page.

•Thanks for responding. I've looked in both those sections and there's literally NOTHING there. No pending issues, no decisions listed at all. That's what's making me so confused! If there was at least some indication of what's wrong, I could try to fix it.

This happened 2 me last yr... turns out they needed identity verification but never sent the notice. Ur claim can be active but still have a hidden stop on it. DONT WAIT LIKE I DID for 6 wks!!! They wont tell u anything unless u actually talk 2 someone. Gotta keep trying 2 call.

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! How did you finally figure it out? Did you just keep calling until you got through?

An 'active' status simply means your claim is established, but there are several reasons why you might not be receiving payments: 1. Unresolved identity verification (very common) 2. Adjudication on separation issues (quitting/firing circumstances) 3. Work search requirements not properly documented 4. Waiting week hasn't been processed 5. System glitch that needs ESD intervention The frustrating part is you won't know which one without speaking to an agent. You'll need to keep calling until you get through, which can be extremely difficult with their current call volumes.

•thisis why the esd system is totally BROKEN. they expect people to just wait with no income and no explanation? people have bills to pay and families to feed!

After struggling with this exact issue for weeks (active status but no payments), I finally used Claimyr to get through to ESD. It's a service that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me from having to redial hundreds of times. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 In my case, they needed additional employment verification but the notice got lost somewhere in their system. Once I talked to someone, it was resolved in a couple of days.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of this service before. Did it actually work well for you? At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything that might help me actually talk to a real person.

Yes it worked great for me! Instead of spending hours redialing, I just put my info in and got a call back when they had an agent. Saved my sanity for sure. With how busy they are right now, it's almost impossible to get through otherwise.

I'm an ESD claims specialist, and I see this issue frequently. An 'active' claim with no payment often indicates one of these situations: 1. Your claim is under review but not yet in formal adjudication 2. There's a flag on your account requiring verification 3. Your weekly claims are being accepted but held pending resolution of an issue Most importantly, the lack of visible pending issues doesn't mean there aren't any - sometimes these flags don't appear in your portal view. You absolutely need to speak with an agent to resolve this. Keep calling first thing in the morning (7:00 AM) when the queue is shortest. Once you reach someone, ask specifically: "What is preventing my payments from processing despite my active claim status?"

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I'll start calling right at 7:00 AM tomorrow. It's really helpful to know what specific question to ask when I finally get through. Should I continue filing my weekly claims while I try to resolve this?

Yes, absolutely continue filing your weekly claims even while you're trying to resolve this issue. This is critically important. Even though payments aren't being released currently, you need an unbroken chain of weekly claims to receive backdated payments once the issue is resolved. If you miss filing even one week, you could permanently lose eligibility for that week's payment.

•Got it, I'll definitely keep filing. I was getting discouraged since nothing seemed to be happening, but I'll make sure not to miss any weeks.

I had this same problem for 5 weeks back in January. Turned out there was a flag on my account because my previous employer contested my claim but ESD never sent me any notification. The only way I found out was by finally getting through to someone on the phone. Once I talked to them, they moved my case to adjudication and I eventually got backpay for all the weeks, but it took almost 2 months total. Did you check your spam folder? Sometimes their emails end up there. Also, did you verify your identity through ID.me? That's another common holdup.

•I did check spam and nothing there. And yes, I did the ID.me verification right when I first applied. This is so frustrating! I wish they would at least tell us what's going on instead of leaving us in limbo. I'm going to try calling again tomorrow morning first thing.

UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD this morning! Used the Claimyr service that someone recommended above and it worked great. Turns out there was an employer response issue that never showed up in my online account. They've now moved my claim to adjudication and said I should see some movement within 1-2 weeks. The agent also approved provisional payments while they review my case, so I should get some money by next week. Thank you to everyone who helped!

•That's great news! Glad you got it sorted out. Make sure you keep an eye on your account for any additional questionnaires they might send during adjudication. Those have strict deadlines.
