ESD keeps showing 'pending' status for months - anyone else stuck in limbo?

I'm at my wit's end with ESD! Filed for unemployment benefits almost 4 months ago and my claim is STILL showing as 'pending' with absolutely no explanation. I've been checking eServices every single day hoping for a change. Called ESD about 20+ times but either get disconnected or told someone will 'look into it.' Meanwhile bills are piling up and I'm barely making ends meet with some part-time gig work. Has anyone else been stuck in pending status this long in 2025? Did anything actually help move your claim forward? Starting to think the system is deliberately designed to make people give up...

Same boat here!! Been pending for 7 weeks now. ESD is completely useless omg

7 weeks is bad enough... I'm going on 16 weeks now! Did you try sending messages through eServices? I've sent like 12 and only got one generic response saying 'your claim is being processed.'

Your claim is likely stuck in identity verification or adjudication. This usually happens when there's a discrepancy in your work history or if your former employer disputed something. The best approach is to find out exactly what's holding things up. Have you received any letters in your eServices inbox or by mail requesting additional documentation?

Nothing specific in my inbox except generic 'we received your claim' messages. No requests for documents or explanation about what might be wrong. That's what's so frustrating - I can't fix what I don't know is broken!

That gives me a tiny bit of hope, but I still need to find a way to get them to actually look at my claim. I can't wait another month or two!

The ESD system is DELIBERATELY designed to wear people down until they give up. I worked for the state (not ESD) and have friends who do. They're massively understaffed but won't admit it. The politicians claim low unemployment so they cut the department budget, but then can't handle the actual claims that DO come in. It's all about statistics to make them look good while real people suffer. KEEP CALLING. It's your money you paid into the system!!

I was starting to think the same thing - that they just hope people give up! I'm definitely not giving up, but my phone bill is getting ridiculous from all the hold times when I do manage to get in the queue.

Have you tried using Claimyr? When my claim was stuck in pending for weeks, I used their service and got through to an actual ESD agent in about 40 minutes. Turns out there was a simple issue with my ID verification that nobody bothered to tell me about. The agent fixed it on the spot and my claim was approved within days. Check out their demo video here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their website claimyr.com. Literally saved me months of waiting.

Never heard of Claimyr before. Thanks for the tip! At this point I'm willing to try anything. Did they actually help resolve your issue or just get you through to someone?

They just got me through to an actual ESD agent quickly (which was impossible for me before). The ESD agent I spoke with was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and fixed it right away. Worth every penny to not be stuck on hold for hours or getting disconnected constantly.

btw the thing about working with a "good company online" in your post sounds super sketchy just saying... like one of those unemployment scams they warn about

Huh? Oh I think you misunderstood. I just meant I'm barely making ends meet with gig work while waiting for ESD. Not promoting anything! Just desperate to get my actual benefits processed.

Check if you are in adjudication without being told. This happened to me in January. My claim said "pending" for 12 weeks, but when I finally got through to someone, they said I was actually in adjudication over a job separation issue. The system never updated to show this! The adjudicator had been trying to contact my former employer who wasn't responding, but nobody thought to tell ME what was happening. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call right at 8:00am when they open (try 7:59 even) 2. Press the options for "existing claim with issues" not general questions 3. If you get through, specifically ask if you're in adjudication and what's the holdup 4. Request to speak to a supervisor if the first person can't help Good luck! The system is broken but persistence pays off.

This is super helpful! I had no idea I might be in adjudication without the system showing it. Will definitely try the 7:59am call trick tomorrow. Really appreciate the specific advice!

Here's a strategy that often works for pending claims: 1. Contact your state representative or senator's office - they have liaisons who can contact ESD directly 2. Provide your claim ID, contact info, and a brief explanation of the delay 3. Sign their privacy release form so they can inquire on your behalf I was an ESD adjudicator before switching careers, and legislative inquiries always got fast-tracked. It's not ideal that it works this way, but it often gets results within 7-10 days versus months of waiting.

I never thought of contacting my state rep! That's brilliant. Do I just call their office directly? This sounds like it might actually work.

Yes, call their office directly. Just google "[your city] state representative" to find yours. Explain that you've been waiting 4 months for unemployment benefits with no resolution. They'll have you fill out a privacy release form (usually by email) and then they'll contact ESD's legislative liaison. I've seen this resolve even complicated claims many times.

I waited like 5 months last year lol. Then got all the backpay at once which was nice but still had to max out credit cards waiting. The system is broken but they do pay eventually if you're eligible.

5 MONTHS?! That's insane... though the backpay would be nice if/when it finally comes through. I'm definitely going to try the state rep approach mentioned above because I can't wait that long.
