Just to add some clarification about what's actually happening: When claims get stuck, it's often because they're flagged for manual review but haven't been assigned to an adjudicator due to backlog. What the Governor's office does is essentially flag your claim for priority handling, moving it to the front of the queue. It's not that they're suddenly approving claims that weren't valid - they're just ensuring someone actually looks at your claim sooner rather than later. This is why it's important that your claim is legitimate and all documentation is already uploaded. They won't approve anything that doesn't qualify, but they will make sure it gets reviewed promptly.
My BFF works at ESD (don't want to say which office lol) and she says they're still super understaffed since covid. Like they lost a ton of experienced people and the new folks are still learning the system. That's why so many claims get stuck - the complicated ones need experienced staff to review them but there aren't enough to go around. She actually suggested the governor's office trick to me before when my neighbor was having issues!
ESD is THE WORST with communication!!! When my claim was ending last year, I called to ask these exact questions and got 3 different answers from 3 different people. One even told me I didn't need to refile at all which was COMPLETELY WRONG and caused me to miss benefits. I'd take any advice you get here with a grain of salt - even from ESD themselves sometimes!
Thanks everyone for the advice! I'm going to file my new claim the Monday after my benefit year ends and plan for at least a month without benefits just to be safe. I'll probably take a small 401k withdrawal during the waiting week to cover essential bills. I'm still confused about whether I'll qualify with enough hours, but I guess I'll find out when I apply. I'll keep job hunting like crazy in the meantime and hope for the best!
anybody else notice that ESD seems to be checking job search logs more carefully lately??? my friend got audited and had to provide proof of all her applications from the past 8 weeks or they were gonna cut her benefits!!
Yes, ESD has increased job search verification in 2025. They're now randomly selecting approximately 15% of claimants for detailed job search reviews. This is why it's crucial to maintain thorough records of all job search activities - save confirmation emails from applications, take screenshots of submitted applications, and keep detailed notes of networking conversations. The job search log in your ESD account should be treated as an official document.
UPDATE: I wanted to thank everyone for the advice and support. I've implemented several suggestions - updated my resume with current keywords, reached out to my network, and called ESD about additional resources (using Claimyr really did help bypass the phone nightmare). I've got two promising interviews next week, one from a former colleague's referral. I'm also researching the SEAP program as a potential option. Will let you all know how things progress, but I'm feeling much more optimistic now. This community has been incredibly helpful during a really tough time.
hi so my situation was different but kind of similar? i had an adjudicator call me about my availability for work (i had some childcare issues) and my as of date changed but then nothing for like 2 weeks and i was freaking out but then i realized i never actually submitted my childcare documentation they asked for lol. maybe check if theres anything they requested that you missed? just a thought!
For everyone's reference, here's the current ESD timeline expectations: 1. After adjudication interview: 2-4 weeks for decision (longer during high volume periods) 2. If additional information is requested: clock restarts after they receive your information 3. If approved: payment typically processes 2-3 business days after decision 4. If denied: appeals must be filed within 30 days of decision letter date The most important thing is to continue filing weekly claims during this waiting period. If your claim is approved, you'll only receive payment for weeks properly claimed, regardless of how long the decision took. Also, check your spam/junk folders for ESD communications, as their emails sometimes get filtered.

•Thanks! I'm going to try the free options first (WorkSource, hardship request, messaging portal) but if those don't work in the next couple days, I might try Claimyr as a last resort before rent is due.

One more thing - while you're waiting for your ESD claim to process, you should immediately apply for emergency assistance through DSHS Community Services Office for help with your rent. Since you're facing possible eviction, you may qualify for emergency assistance even while your unemployment claim is pending. You can also contact 211 for referrals to local rent assistance programs. Don't wait until you're behind - apply for these programs now.

•This is incredibly helpful - thank you so much! I'll apply for emergency assistance right away. Ironic that I need to ask DSHS for help after they let me go, but I'm past being proud at this point.
