Success story: Contacted governor's office after 6 weeks stuck in ESD limbo - payment hit account next day!

Just wanted to share my experience because I was literally at my wits' end with this whole ESD nightmare. After getting laid off from my construction job in January, I applied for unemployment and everything seemed ok at first. Then my claim got stuck in this weird 'pending' status for SIX WEEKS with no explanation. I called ESD probably 30+ times (not exaggerating), sent messages through eServices, uploaded all requested documents twice, and NOTHING. I was getting desperate since my savings were almost gone and rent was coming up. Yesterday morning, I finally called the governor's office as a last resort (I saw someone mention this in an old post). The person I talked to was super nice and took all my info. They said they'd send an 'official inquiry' to ESD on my behalf. You guys... I literally woke up this morning to a payment of $3,782 in my bank account!!! All those weeks of benefits came through at once. I actually cried. Just wanted to share this because I know tons of people are stuck in similar situations. Don't give up - sometimes you have to go above ESD to get results.

This is actually a really effective strategy that more people should know about. The Governor's Office has a constituent services team specifically for helping citizens navigate state agencies when they're stuck. When they send an inquiry to ESD, it gets flagged as a priority and usually handled within 24-48 hours. I've seen this work multiple times for stalled claims. For anyone in a similar situation, here's the direct number for the Governor's constituent services: 360-902-4111. Be polite, have your claim ID ready, and briefly explain how long you've been waiting and what steps you've already taken to resolve it.

Yes exactly! That's the number I called. The woman I spoke with was super professional and didn't make me feel bad at all for calling. She just took down my info and explained what would happen next. She also gave me a reference number for the inquiry which made me feel like it wouldn't just disappear into the void like all my ESD messages seem to!

wow thats amazing!!! ive been stuck in adjudication for 3 weeks now and im getting so stressed. do u just call and explain whats happening?? did they ask for anything specific? congrats on finally getting ur money!!

Thanks! Yes, I just called and explained what was going on. Have your claim ID number ready and they'll ask for basic info like your name, contact info, and a summary of your issue. They asked me how long I'd been waiting and what steps I'd already taken to resolve it with ESD directly. The whole call took maybe 10 minutes. Good luck!

I tried calling the Governor's office when my claim was stuck and they just told me they couldn't help and to keep trying ESD. This was after waiting 8 WEEKS in adjudication. So don't get your hopes up because it definitely doesn't work for everyone. The whole system is completely broken and they basically just pick and choose who they want to help.

Same happened to me, called governor office and nothing happened, still waiting after 5 weeks. Feels like winning the lottery if ur one of the lucky ones that gets helped!

Contacting the Governor's office is definitely a valid escalation path, but I recommend trying Claimyr first if you're having trouble getting through to ESD directly. It's a service that helps you skip the phone queue to speak with an actual ESD agent. I was skeptical at first but used it when my claim was stuck in adjudication for weeks. They connected me to an agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. Check out their demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 or visit claimyr.com. Much faster than waiting for the Governor's office to intervene in most cases.

does it cost money?? im seriously desperate at this point id pay anything to get thru to someone

I tried calling like 50x and got hung up on EVERY TIME. The system would just disconnect me after waiting on hold. I'm totally doing the governor thing tomorrow morning. Did you have to wait long to talk to someone at their office? Congrats on getting paid!!

No, that's the crazy thing! I only waited about 5 minutes to talk to someone at the governor's office. Such a difference from ESD where you can't even get through the automated system. Good luck - hope it works for you too!

So happy for you! I know exactly how stressful this situation is. I was in the same boat last year - stuck in pending for over a month with bills piling up. For those who are still struggling, here are a few other strategies I've seen work: 1. Contact your state representative/senator (sometimes works faster than governor's office) 2. Request an official adjudication interview through eServices (use the "Request a Call" option) 3. If you have documentation showing financial hardship (eviction notice, utility shutoff, etc.), mention this specifically as it can flag your claim as urgent 4. Make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims correctly while waiting The system is frustrating, but don't give up. Your benefits are your legal right if you qualify.

wait how do u request a call?? i cant find that option anywhere on my eservices account??

The fact that we have to call the GOVERNOR'S OFFICE to get our legally entitled benefits is absolutely ridiculous!!! This system is completely BROKEN and nobody is fixing it. I've been paying into unemployment for 15 years and when I finally needed it, I had to fight for THREE MONTHS to get paid. Why do we put up with this garbage?? They should be paying interest on delayed claims!

100% agree!! its insane that we have to jump thru all these hoops. my friend in oregon got approved in 3 days while im on week 5 of waiting. makes no sense

Just to add some clarification about what's actually happening: When claims get stuck, it's often because they're flagged for manual review but haven't been assigned to an adjudicator due to backlog. What the Governor's office does is essentially flag your claim for priority handling, moving it to the front of the queue. It's not that they're suddenly approving claims that weren't valid - they're just ensuring someone actually looks at your claim sooner rather than later. This is why it's important that your claim is legitimate and all documentation is already uploaded. They won't approve anything that doesn't qualify, but they will make sure it gets reviewed promptly.

That makes a lot of sense. I definitely had all my documentation ready and had done everything right. It just seemed like my claim was sitting in a digital pile somewhere that nobody was looking at. Thanks for explaining how the process works!

My BFF works at ESD (don't want to say which office lol) and she says they're still super understaffed since covid. Like they lost a ton of experienced people and the new folks are still learning the system. That's why so many claims get stuck - the complicated ones need experienced staff to review them but there aren't enough to go around. She actually suggested the governor's office trick to me before when my neighbor was having issues!

So they KNOW the system is broken but instead of fixing it they just tell people to call the governor?? That's even worse! If they know they're understaffed they should HIRE MORE PEOPLE with all the money they're saving by delaying our claims!
