Stuck in ESD limbo after job dismissal - no denial, no appeal option for 6+ months

I'm completely lost in the ESD system after being let go in January 2025. My employer claimed I was fired for misconduct, but I strongly disagree with their characterization of events. I immediately filed for unemployment and received a request for additional information on March 15th. I responded with all requested documents within 48 hours and... nothing. Absolute radio silence for over 6 months now. My claim status just says "pending adjudication" with no updates. I've submitted 28 weekly claims at this point, sent 5 secure messages through eServices, and even tried calling multiple times a week (can never get through). I haven't received an official denial letter, so I can't even file an appeal to present my side! Has anyone else been stuck in this weird ESD limbo? I'm running out of savings and don't know what my next step should be since I can't appeal a decision that hasn't been made.

This is happening to SO MANY PEOPLE right now!! ESD is completely broken. I was in the same boat for 4 months and never got a single response to ANY of my messages. They're probably just waiting for you to give up and go away. The whole system is designed to frustrate you into quitting.

That's what it feels like... Have you had any luck getting through to them at all? I'm worried they'll eventually deny my claim after all these months and then I'll only have 30 days to appeal, but won't even know about it if their communication system is this broken.

You need to escalate this beyond just weekly messages. Here's what helped me with a similar situation:\n\n1. Contact your state representative's office - they have special channels to ESD\n2. File a formal complaint with the ESD Commissioner's office\n3. Request your claim file through a public records request so you can see what's actually happening behind the scenes\n\nAdjudication for misconduct cases typically takes 4-6 weeks, not 6+ months. Something is definitely wrong with your claim processing. Also, double-check your spam folder and make sure your address is correct in the system - sometimes they send physical mail rather than electronic notifications.

Thank you! I hadn't thought about contacting my state rep. Do I just call their office and explain the situation? And how do I file a complaint with the Commissioner? Is there a specific form somewhere?

same thing hapend to me but mine was only 3 months of waiting not 6. i think its cuz they r so bacloged with claims and not enough staff to handle them all. my freind said they have like 50% of the workers they used to have before covid

There is a backlog, but 6 months is excessive even by current standards. Standard adjudication times are running 4-8 weeks for misconduct cases. Something else is likely happening with this claim - possibly stuck in the system or missing key information that's preventing it from moving forward.

I feel you! Been there. When you say you're

I filed a complaint with HR about how my termination violated company policy, and I'm also working with an employment attorney because I believe there were some discriminatory factors involved. But I never told ESD to wait for the outcome of that - I've been actively trying to get them to process my claim regardless.

After spending literally weeks trying to get through to ESD about my stuck claim, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nThe agent was able to see that my claim had a flag on it that was preventing it from moving forward. Once they removed that flag, my adjudication was completed within a week. Might be worth trying since you've already waited 6 months with no response.

I've seen Claimyr mentioned a few times here... does it actually work? I'm suspicious of anything that claims to get through to ESD when their phone lines are constantly jammed.

It worked for me. I was skeptical too, but after 3 months of getting nowhere I was desperate. They basically just keep calling for you and when they get through, they connect you. The ESD agent I spoke with was actually super helpful once I finally got through to a human.

What you're experiencing isn't just a delay - something's wrong with your claim processing. When ESD requests additional information and then goes silent, it usually means one of three things:\n\n1. Your documents weren't properly attached/received in their system (happens more than you'd think)\n2. Your claim is missing an employer response and they're waiting for it\n3. Your claim got incorrectly categorized or stuck in the wrong queue\n\nYou need to speak directly with a claims specialist. Regular agents often can't see or fix these specific issues. When you do get through, specifically request that they check if your documentation was received and visible to adjudicators, and ask if they can see any reasons for the unusual delay. Also ask them to place a note in your file requesting expedited handling due to the excessive wait time.\n\nKeep filing those weekly claims though - if your claim is eventually approved, you'll get backpay for all properly filed weeks.

Thank you - this is incredibly helpful. I've been worried that I might have done something wrong with my documentation. Is there any way to verify if they received what I sent? And is there a specific number to reach claims specialists directly versus general agents?

Unfortunately there's no direct line to claims specialists - you have to go through the main line (800-318-6022) and then ask to be transferred once you get an agent. For document verification, you should be able to see what you've uploaded in your eServices account under the

This might sound weird but check if ur claim has been assigned to an adjudicator who no longer works there. My sister had this happen and her claim just sat for months because it was assigned to someone who quit and nobody noticed. Eventually she had to file a formal complaint to get it reassigned.

How would I even find that out? I can't get anyone on the phone to ask questions like that.

You probably can't see it on your end. That's why you gotta get thru to someone on the phone who can check the internal notes. Keep trying at different times - early morning right when they open seems to work best sometimes.

One other thing to check - log into your eServices account and see if there are any alerts or action items. Sometimes they request additional information through the portal and don't send an email notification. Also check your correspondence section for any letters you might have missed. Many people don't realize ESD sends important notices through the portal that require response within specific timeframes.

I check eServices obsessively - multiple times a day. There are no alerts, action items, or new correspondence. The last thing in my correspondence folder is the confirmation that they received my additional documentation back in March. That's part of what's so frustrating - there's literally nothing for me to respond to or act on.
