ESD claim stuck in adjudication since November 2025 - no payments, can't reach anyone
I was laid off from my warehouse management position on February 12th due to company restructuring. I filed my unemployment claim on February 15th and everything seemed normal at first. By March 1st, my claim status changed to 'adjudication in progress' and it's been that way for over 7 weeks now! Every single weekly claim shows as 'pending' and I haven't received a dime. I've called ESD literally 40+ times trying to talk to someone but either get disconnected immediately or sit on hold for 2+ hours only to get hung up on. I've sent multiple messages through eServices but haven't gotten any response whatsoever. No letters in the mail explaining what's happening, no emails, absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, I'm doing everything by the book - filing weekly claims on time, completing my 3 required job search activities each week, documenting everything. My savings are completely depleted and I'm about to miss my second rent payment. How is someone supposed to survive when the system completely fails like this? Has anyone broken through this wall of silence? I'm desperate for any advice on how to actually get my claim processed!

This happened to me back in January. My claim was stuck in adjudication for about 6 weeks before it finally got approved. The system is completely overwhelmed right now. What worked for me was contacting my state representative's office - I filled out their constituent services form explaining my situation with ESD, and their office reached out on my behalf. My claim was magically processed within 5 days after that. Worth a try if you're desperate.

•Thank you! I didn't even think about contacting my rep. Did you just go to their website to find the form? Did they need any specific info about your claim?

•Yes, just Google your district + state representative and their official site should come up. The form asks for basic info - your name, address, contact info, and then a description of the issue. I included my claim ID number, the date I filed, and specifically mentioned that I was facing financial hardship due to the delay. They can't guarantee they'll resolve it, but they can often get ESD to look at your claim.

•That's the problem - I have NO idea what could be wrong. My separation was a standard layoff, I've worked for the same private company for 3 years, and I have the layoff letter stating it was due to restructuring. If there was some issue, wouldn't they at least tell me what it is so I could address it?

I went through the same EXACT thing last year. Adjudication for 9 WEEKS with absolutely zero communication!!! It's absolutely CRIMINAL how they treat people who are already in a vulnerable position. I tried calling over 200 times (literally counted) and either got the "we're experiencing high call volume" message or got disconnected. I started having panic attacks because I couldn't pay my mortgage. THE ONLY THING that worked was using Claimyr to get through to an actual human being at ESD. I was skeptical at first but desperate enough to try. You can watch how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their website is claimyr.com. They basically call ESD for you and when they get through, they connect you. I finally got to talk to someone who could see my file, and it turned out there was a simple verification issue they needed to clear up. Got my payments (including all back payments) within 3 days after that call.

•Thank you for the suggestion. I'm getting pretty desperate at this point. Did the ESD agent explain why you weren't notified about the verification issue in the first place?

•The agent I spoke with actually apologized and said they're so backed up that many notices aren't going out. She said there was a flag on my account that should have triggered a letter but it never got sent. The system is completely broken. I hope you get through soon!

have you checked ur work history? sometimes they need to verify previous employment especially if you worked out of state at all in the last 18 months. that can trigger adjudication

•I've only worked in Washington, and for the same employer for the past 3 years. Everything should be pretty straightforward, which makes this all the more frustrating.

I work as an employment counselor at WorkSource, and unfortunately, I'm seeing this situation a lot lately. When claims go into adjudication without any communication, it's often due to one of these reasons: 1. Your employer may have contested the claim or provided information that doesn't match what you submitted 2. There could be a wage verification issue where your reported wages don't match what's in the system 3. There might be an identity verification flag that wasn't properly communicated to you 4. If you had any earnings during weeks you claimed, sometimes that triggers a review Here's what I suggest: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims without fail 2. Try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM - that's when you have the best chance of getting through 3. Check your spam folder and all tabs in your eServices account for any communications 4. If you can't get through by phone, try the live chat function during less busy hours (early morning) 5. As someone else suggested, contacting your state representative can often help The good news is that once resolved, you'll receive all back payments for the weeks you've claimed.

•Thank you for this detailed response. I hadn't considered that my employer might have contested it - they seemed supportive during the layoff process, but who knows. I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow and see if that helps. I've checked every tab in my eServices account multiple times and there's nothing there explaining the adjudication.

I went thru the same nightmare recently. 8 weeks with NOTHING. Turns out ESD had a question about my ID verification that they never bothered to tell me about!! I finally broke down and tried that Claimyr service someone else mentioned. Got through to ESD in about 40 minutes (after trying for weeks on my own). The agent was actually super helpful once I got someone on the line. They cleared up the ID issue right then, and my claim was approved the next day with all back payments. Sometimes you just need to get a human being on the phone who can actually look at your file.

•same ID verification happened to my cousin. ESD never sent him any notice, but they were waiting for him to upload his drivers license. makes no sense!!

•This is so frustrating. If they need additional verification, why wouldn't they just tell us? I'm going to check all the upload sections in my account again to see if there's anything I missed, but I'm pretty sure I provided everything during the initial application.

Are you using the eServices portal or the new SecureAccess Washington system? I heard they changed everything in January and some claims got stuck in the transition. my brother had to re-verify his identity in the new system even though he'd already done it in the old one.

•I'm using the SecureAccess Washington system since that's what the site directed me to. I did have to create a new account when I applied in February. I wonder if there's some issue with the new system that's causing these delays.

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to get your situation resolved? I've been thinking about your post because I know how stressful it is to be in that position. Did you try contacting your representative or using one of the other suggestions?

•Thank you for checking back! I actually tried two approaches - I contacted my state rep yesterday AND I used Claimyr this morning to get through to ESD. I finally spoke to an agent who told me there was a mix-up with my identity verification (even though I submitted everything correctly). They cleared it up on the spot and said my claim should be processed within 3 business days. I'm cautiously optimistic but won't believe it until I see the money in my account. I'll update once I know more.

•That's excellent news! So glad you were able to get through to someone who could actually help. The identity verification issues seem to be really common this year. Fingers crossed your payments come through quickly!
