Current ESD payment wait times in 2025 - filed in March but claims still pending

Hey folks, I filed my initial unemployment claim on March 3rd and have submitted 3 weekly claims since then. ALL of them are still showing as 'pending' with no payment issued. I know there's no exact formula for this stuff, but does anyone know what the current wait times are like for ESD to process claims and start payments? My previous job was in healthcare and they didn't contest anything, so I thought it would be straightforward. Online account just says 'pending' with no other info, and I'm starting to get worried about bills coming due. Anyone filed recently and can share how long it took? Thanks in advance for any insight! (And Happy Easter to those celebrating!

i filed in feb and got my first payment after 4 weeks. had to do the identity verification thing first which took about 10 days, then another 2 weeks of 'processing' before money showed up. did u get any notices about identity verification or adjudication? check your letters/notices tab

Thanks for sharing your timeline! I checked the notices tab and don't see anything about identity verification or adjudication. Just the monetary determination letter from when I first filed. Should I be worried that there's no explanation for the delay?

The current average wait time is about 3-4 weeks for uncomplicated claims, but it can definitely take longer depending on various factors. Since you're at the beginning of your 4th week since filing, I'd give it another week before getting too concerned. Here are some potential reasons for the delay:\n\n1. ESD may be experiencing higher claim volumes right now\n2. Your employer might still be in the response period (they have 10 business days)\n3. There could be a minor issue that triggered manual review\n4. Random selection for additional verification\n\nMake sure you continue filing your weekly claims on time, even while waiting for the initial determination. If you reach the 5-week mark with no movement, I'd recommend trying to contact ESD directly.

This is really helpful context, thank you! I'll keep filing weekly as scheduled and give it another week before panicking. My employer was actually really supportive about the layoff, so I hope they responded promptly to ESD.

THEY ARE SO BACKLOGGED RIGHT NOW!!! Filed in January and didn't get paid until MARCH!!! Two whole months of waiting while bills piled up. Called 47 times before finally getting through. The system is completely BROKEN but nobody talks about it!!! Hope you have savings because you're gonna need it....

I had the same experience in December... took forever and ESD never explained why. Just 'processing' for weeks then suddenly all the payments came at once. The frustrating part is never knowing if you're doing something wrong or if it's just their normal delay.

I've been helping several people navigate the ESD system recently, and I'm seeing wait times of 3-5 weeks for initial processing. But there's a key factor to check: look at your claim details to see if it says \

Thanks for the advice! I checked my claim details more carefully and it just says \

I know how frustrating the waiting game is! After dealing with similar delays in February, I finally got through to an ESD agent using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have this service that helps you skip the phone queue without having to redial constantly. There's a video that explains it better than I can: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3\n\nThe agent I spoke with was able to tell me exactly why my claim was delayed (missing employer response) and gave me a timeframe for resolution. Totally worth it for the peace of mind rather than staring at \

does this actually work?? i spent HOURS redialing last time

Yes, it worked for me! I was skeptical too but got connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through.

my sister and i both filed claims about 6 weeks apart (me in jan, her in feb) and our experiences were totally different? mine took just 2 weeks to start paying while hers is STILL pending after 6 weeks. same employer even! makes no sense how inconsistent they are. i think its just luck of the draw and which agent gets your file tbh

That's so strange that you and your sister had such different experiences with the same employer! Really seems random. I'm crossing my fingers I'm in the

Just wanted to follow up on my earlier comment. One thing that might be worth checking - did you receive and complete the MWA (Management of Work Activities) registration requirement? Since 2025 began, ESD requires this to be completed within 3 weeks of filing, and sometimes claims stall if that's not done. You can check by logging into your WorkSource account to see if it shows as completed.

Oh! I completely forgot about that! I got the email about registering with WorkSource but haven't done it yet. I thought it was just for the job search requirements, not something that would hold up my payments. I'll get that done today - thank you SO much for mentioning this!

Anyone notice that claims filed around holidays seem to take longer? Maybe it's just coincidence but both times I've filed (once near Christmas and now near Easter) it's taken forever. Could be staffing issues around holidays?

You're actually onto something there. ESD typically has reduced staffing around major holidays, which can add a few days to processing times. Filing in the first week of a month can also mean slightly longer waits as they process end-of-month reporting from the previous period.

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for all the helpful advice! I completed my WorkSource registration today (can't believe I missed that step!) and also double-checked that I don't have any adjudication or identity verification issues. Going to give it until the end of next week as suggested, and then try contacting ESD directly if I still don't see any movement. I really appreciate all the insights and timeline expectations - helps me plan better for bills knowing this delay isn't unusual.
