ESD claim stuck on 'need more info' for weeks - anyone else?
I filed my UI claim about three weeks ago and it's been saying 'pending' with a note that 'they need more information' this whole time. There's no message in my account about what info they actually need, and I've uploaded all the documents I can think of (ID, paystubs, separation letter). I tried calling ESD about 15 times but either get disconnected or told the wait is 4+ hours. Out of desperation, I sent an email to my state representative yesterday. Has anyone else dealt with this 'need more info' status? How long did it take to resolve? I'm getting really worried because rent is due next week and I have no income coming in since being laid off from the manufacturing plant.

•5 weeks?? That's insane! Did you also contact your state rep or try anything else that helped?

This is actually quite common with ESD claims. When you see 'need more information' but no specific request in your notices section, it usually means your claim has been flagged for adjudication. This happens when there's something in your application that requires manual review - could be your reason for separation, hours worked during your base year, or even just random verification. The good news is that contacting your state rep was a smart move. In my experience, this can sometimes speed things up. You should also check if there's a questionnaire you need to complete - sometimes these don't show up properly in the portal.

•Thank you for explaining! How long does adjudication typically take? And is there any way to check specifically what they need?

I had this EXACT SAME PROBLEM back in January!!! It stayed "pending - need more info" for almost 6 WEEKS and I was about to lose my mind. Called 100+ times. Turns out they needed to verify my identity because my previous employer had a different spelling of my middle name than what's on my driver's license. BUT THEY NEVER TOLD ME THAT until I finally got through to a person!!!

I work with unemployment claims regularly. When your claim shows 'need more info' without specifying what information, it's almost always an adjudication issue that requires an ESD agent to review your case manually. Unfortunately, the current wait time for adjudication is 4-6 weeks. Here's what you should do: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims even while pending 2. Check your online portal daily for any new questionnaires 3. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date so they can reach you 4. Keep trying to call ESD early in the morning (7:30am is best) Emailing your state rep was a good idea, but it might take them 1-2 weeks to get a response from ESD on your behalf.

•Thank you for the detailed advice! I'll keep filing weekly and check for questionnaires. Is there any specific day of the week that's better for calling?

When I had this happen to me last summer, it turned out they needed proof of job search activities. I had been doing them but didn't know I needed to upload documentation. Have you been doing your 3 job search activities each week? Make sure you're logging them in WorkSource too, not just on the ESD site.

•Oh! I've been doing the job searches but only logging them in the ESD weekly claim, not in WorkSource separately. Could that be the issue?

You should absolutely be logging your job search activities in both places, but that's probably not what's holding up your initial claim approval. The WorkSource requirement is more for ongoing claims. Your main issue is likely related to your separation reason or wage verification based on what you've shared. I highly recommend you try using Claimyr.com to connect with an ESD agent. It's a service that basically waits on hold for you and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. I was skeptical at first but it actually got me through to a real person who could explain exactly what was holding up my claim.

Just to add some clarification on the job search requirements: For initial claims that are still pending, you should still be conducting and documenting your job searches, but they won't be reviewing those until your claim is approved. The 'need more info' status on a new claim is almost certainly related to your eligibility determination, not job search compliance. Keep in mind that when your claim is eventually approved, they'll backpay you for all the weeks you properly filed, including the weeks you're waiting now. So don't miss any weekly filings!

•That's a relief about the backpay! I was worried I'd lose those weeks. I'll make sure to keep filing while I try to resolve this.

yea i tried that claimyr thing someone mentioned and it actually did work for me last month. got through to esd in like 30 min instead of calling for days. the agent told me my claim was stuck becuase they needed to verify my last day worked with my employer. once they did that it went through in like 2 days

•Thanks for sharing your experience! I might try that if I don't hear back from my state rep soon.

My sister just went through this and her state rep actually called ESD FOR HER and got it resolved in 3 days!!! So your approach might work faster than anything else. Let us know what happens!

I went through something similar last year and it was incredibly stressful. One thing that helped me was keeping a detailed log of every call attempt, what happened, and any reference numbers they gave me. When I finally got through to someone, having all that documentation made the conversation much more productive. Also, if you haven't already, try calling right at 7:30am when they open - that's when I had the most luck getting through. The automated system sometimes drops calls later in the day when volume is high. Hang in there, it really does get resolved eventually even though it feels hopeless right now.

•That's really smart advice about keeping a detailed log! I wish I had started doing that from the beginning. I'll definitely try calling right at 7:30am tomorrow - hopefully the early bird gets the worm with ESD. It's good to hear from someone who actually got through this process successfully, gives me hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Filed my claim 2.5 weeks ago and it's been stuck on "pending - need more info" with absolutely no indication of what they actually need. I've uploaded everything I can think of too - W2s, pay stubs, termination letter, driver's license. It's so frustrating that their system can't at least give you a hint about what's missing. I've been afraid to keep calling because I don't want to seem pushy, but reading all these responses makes me realize I need to be more persistent. The stress of not knowing when (or if) this will get resolved is almost worse than being unemployed. Thanks for posting this - it helps to know I'm not the only one going through this nightmare!
