ESD payments after determination letter approval - 7 week wait normal?
Finally got my determination letter yesterday saying I'm approved for benefits after a 7-week nightmare! I had to call the governor's office on Monday to get any movement on my claim (they actually helped!). My eServices account shows 'paid' status now, but still no money in my account. For those who've been through this recently - how many days after your determination letter did the actual payment hit your account? Starting to stress about rent coming due next week and I'm afraid to get my hopes up if there's still a long wait ahead.

Congratulations on getting approved! For direct deposit, payments usually show up within 2-3 business days after your claim switches to "paid" status in eServices. Sometimes it can take 4-5 business days for the first payment since they're setting up your payment method. Check that your banking info is correctly entered in the system - that's a common delay issue. If you chose the debit card option, it might take 7-10 days for the card to arrive in the mail, but subsequent payments are faster.

•Thanks! I'm set up for direct deposit and double-checked my banking info is correct. Hopefully I'll see something by Tuesday then. Just paranoid something else will go wrong after waiting so long!

When I was approved in January, the money hit my account exactly 3 business days after the letter. BUT that was only because I had already set up direct deposit correctly. The ESD systems are acting weird lately though - my neighbor's payment took almost 2 weeks after approval to process. If your claim was complicated or had multiple weeks of backpay, that can slow things down too. Did your determination letter specify the payment amounts for each week you claimed?

•Yes, the letter shows all 7 weeks I claimed with the weekly benefit amount for each. It also shows the total amount I should be getting for all backpay. I'm just worried because it's a pretty large sum now after 7 weeks and I've heard larger payments sometimes get flagged for additional review.

SEVEN WEEKS IS RIDICULOUS!!! I waited 12 weeks last summer and had to contact my state representative AND the governor's office THREE TIMES before they fixed my claim!!! Even after approval, they made me wait another 11 days for payment! The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and they don't care about people suffering while they take their sweet time. I bet they're earning interest on all our money while we struggle to pay bills!!!! 😡😡😡

•While the wait times are definitely frustrating, ESD isn't deliberately holding payments to earn interest. Their systems are just outdated and they're chronically understaffed. The delays are from processing backlogs, not malicious intent. But I agree the system needs serious improvement.

mine took 4 days but my sister waited almost 2 weeks after her determination letter... i think it depends on what day of the week you get approved and if you have direct deposit set up. also backpay can take longer to process vs regular weekly payments.

If it's been more than 5 business days since your status changed to "paid" and you still haven't received the funds, you should definitely call ESD to check on it. However, getting through to them can be nearly impossible these days. I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) last month when I had a similar issue, and they got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent I spoke with was able to see exactly what was happening with my payment and resolved the delay while I was on the phone.

If you're expecting a large backpay amount (sounds like you are), sometimes those go through an additional verification step that can add 3-5 business days. Did your determination letter mention any specific payment date? Also, if this is your first payment ever from ESD, that initial setup can take longer. The system is definitely more efficient now than during the pandemic, but still not great.

•No specific payment date in the letter, just the approval and benefit amounts. This is my first time on unemployment so it's all new to me. Guess I'll give it until the end of next week before panicking!

UPDATE: The money just hit my account this morning! So it took exactly 3 business days after the determination letter. Such a relief after 7+ weeks of waiting and stressing. Thanks everyone for your help and insights!

•Great news! Glad it came through quickly. Make sure you keep up with your weekly claims and job search activities (3 per week) to keep payments coming smoothly.
