ESD payment delay - 4 weeks backpay showing 'paid' but only received last week's payment

So confused about what's happening with my ESD payments! I finally got approved last Friday after dealing with identity verification issues for almost 2 months. My eServices account shows 'paid' status for 4 backpay weeks (about $2,900 total), plus this past week's payment ($725). However, when I checked my direct deposit account today, I only received the $725 for the most recent week. Has anyone experienced this before? Do backpay weeks take longer to process even if they show 'paid' in the system? It's been three business days since the 'paid' status appeared. Getting worried because I've got rent due next week and was counting on that backpay to catch up on bills.

same thing happend to me in january! the back pay took 4 more days to hit my account after the regular payment showed up. ESD processes them seperately sometimes

That's a relief to hear! Did all your backpay come at once or did it trickle in over a few days?

This is fairly common with ESD backpay processing. The system marks everything as 'paid' at the same time, but they often process the current week payment first, then handle backpay separately. A few things to check: 1. Verify all payment details are correct in your eServices account (routing/account numbers) 2. Check your payment method - sometimes backpay defaults to debit card even if you selected direct deposit 3. Look for any payment holds or deductions listed If everything looks correct, the backpay typically arrives within 3-5 business days after the 'paid' status appears. If it goes beyond a week, that's when you should contact ESD directly.

Thanks for the detailed info! I double-checked my payment details and everything seems correct. I opted for direct deposit from the beginning. There aren't any holds showing in my account either. I guess I'll wait until next Monday before panicking.

they're ALWAYS slow with backpay!!! the computer says it's paid but that just means it's approved, not actually sent to your bank yet. sometimes they batch process backpay on certain days of the week. waiting is the worst part!!! hope u get ur money soon

The waiting is driving me crazy! I've been living on credit cards for 2 months waiting for this to be resolved. At least it sounds like it should show up eventually.

Back in March I had a similar situation after my adjudication cleared. My current week payment appeared on Tuesday, but the 6 weeks of backpay didn't hit my account until Friday morning. The ESD representative explained that backpay often follows a different processing timeline and they typically release it in batches. If you need to reach ESD to confirm the status, good luck getting through on the phones though - I spent 4 days trying before I discovered Claimyr. It's a service that helps you reach an actual ESD agent without the endless waiting and disconnects. Worked great for me when I needed to confirm my payment was actually coming. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo too: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Hopefully your backpay shows up soon without needing to call, but if you do need to reach them, that service saved me hours of frustration.

Thanks for the tip! I've been dreading calling ESD because everyone says it's impossible to get through. I'll give it until Friday and then check out that service if my backpay still hasn't shown up.

Don't listen to these ppl saying its normal. It's NOT normal! You need to call ESD asap bc they might have sent ur backpay to the wrong account or a ReliaCard. This happened 2 my friend n she never got her money bc she waited 2 long to report it. The system is totally broken n they make these "mistakes" on purpose hoping ppl don't notice!!! The govt doesn't want to pay us what they owe!!

While it's always good to be vigilant about your benefits, this delay is actually quite common with ESD backpay processing. The system does typically process current and back payments separately. If the OP verified their payment information is correct in eServices and the payment status shows 'paid', there's a high probability the money is simply in processing. Waiting a few more business days before calling is reasonable advice.

Just wanted to update you all - my backpay finally hit my account this morning! It came as one lump sum for all 4 weeks. Exactly 6 business days after showing 'paid' in the system. Such a relief! Thanks for all the reassurance that this was normal - saved me a lot of stress.
