ESD backpay showing on claims portal but ReliaCard deposits are random amounts - what's going on?

So I've got this weird situation with my ESD backpay. My claims portal shows 6 separate payments were all processed on Jan 29th, 2025, totaling around $4,600. But when I check my ReliaCard account, I'm only seeing random portions of the money being deposited - like $872 one day, then $1,233 three days later, then nothing for a week, then another $745. The amounts don't even match any of my individual weekly benefit amounts! I've tried calling ESD but can't get through (shocking, I know). Has anyone else experienced this kind of weird partial payment situation? Should I be worried that I'm not getting my full backpay amount? The total deposited so far is only about half of what the portal says was paid out.

The same thing happened to me last month!!! The ESD portal showed all payments as 'paid' on the same day but my ReliaCard got deposits spread over 12 DAYS!!! It's because their system processes them in batches but the actual transfers to ReliaCard happen at different times. As long as the amounts eventually add up to your total, you should be fine. But KEEP TRACK of everything because ESD makes mistakes ALL THE TIME!!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Did all your money eventually show up? It's been almost two weeks since the first deposit and I'm still missing about $2,100 according to my calculations.

my reliacard always has weird delays. sumtimes it takes like 2-3 weeks for everything to show up even tho esd says its paid already. just wait it out

2-3 weeks? Ugh that's frustrating. Bills don't wait 2-3 weeks...

This is actually normal behavior with ReliaCard deposits from ESD. The payment dates shown in your ESD portal indicate when the payments were authorized and processed on ESD's end, but the actual transfers to ReliaCard often occur in batches over several business days. A few things to keep in mind: 1. ReliaCard typically processes deposits only on business days 2. Large backpay amounts are sometimes split into multiple deposits for fraud prevention 3. The system may group certain weeks together in a single deposit I recommend creating a spreadsheet to track each weekly payment amount shown in your ESD portal, and then check them off as they appear in your ReliaCard account. If after 15 business days you're still missing funds that show as "paid" in the ESD portal, that's when you should escalate the issue.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I never knew about the fraud prevention thing splitting deposits. I'll start tracking everything in a spreadsheet like you suggested. The 15 business day timeline is helpful too - at least now I know when to really start worrying.

I had this same issue and found out there's actually a daily deposit limit on ReliaCard accounts (around $5,000 I believe). If your total backpay exceeds this amount, it gets split across multiple days automatically. Also, ReliaCard's customer service is actually more helpful than ESD for tracking these deposits - call the number on the back of your card and they can tell you exactly what deposits are pending and when they're scheduled to post. Hope this helps!

That's super helpful! I had no idea about the daily deposit limit. I'll try calling ReliaCard directly - didn't even think of that. Thanks!

If you're having trouble reaching ESD about your backpay issues, I recently used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Worth it for peace of mind when dealing with thousands in backpay! The agent I spoke with was able to look up all my pending payments and confirm exactly when each would hit my ReliaCard.

I've heard about this service!! Does it really work? I always thought it sounded too good to be true since NOBODY can get through to ESD normally...

It definitely worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for a week straight to get through. The agent I reached was able to see all my payment details including the ones that hadn't hit my ReliaCard yet.

hey just wondering did u have adjudication before getting ur backpay?? im in adjudication for 7 weeks now and im about to lose my mind... i need to know if backpay comes automatically after adjudication or do i need to do something else?

0 coins

Yes, I was in adjudication for about 5 weeks before everything cleared up. Once adjudication finished, the backpay was automatically processed - I didn't have to do anything extra. Hang in there!

One more thing to check - log into your ReliaCard account online (not just the app) and look for any messages about identity verification or account limits. Sometimes when they push large backpay amounts, ReliaCard's fraud system gets triggered and they hold funds until you call and verify your identity. HAPPENED TO ME and I wasted 2 weeks waiting for money that was being held!!!

This is an excellent point. ReliaCard has been increasing their security measures in 2025, and many people don't realize that large or unusual deposits may trigger automatic holds that require verification. Always check both the message center and any email associated with your ReliaCard account.

Just to add a data point I got backpay of $3,800 in September and it came in four separate deposits over 8 days. All eventually showed up but it was nerve wracking watching partial amounts trickle in! ReliaCard is really bad about communication.

UPDATE: I followed several suggestions here - tracked all my expected payments in a spreadsheet, checked ReliaCard's website (not just the app), and called ReliaCard customer service directly. Turns out there were two payments being held for "unusual activity verification" and one payment scheduled for tomorrow. The agent released the held payments immediately, and I should have everything within 48 hours. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! This is exactly why documenting everything is so important when dealing with unemployment benefits. Glad you got it resolved!
