ESD back pay deposits on weekends or delayed until Monday?

So I finally got my adjudication cleared after 7 weeks (ugh finally!) and they owe me back payments for 6 weeks. The agent said it would be processed 'immediately' but that was Friday afternoon. I checked my account today (Sunday) and nothing's there yet. Do ESD back payments ever post on weekends or should I just expect it Monday/Tuesday? I'm super anxious because my rent is due Wednesday and I've been living off credit cards. Anyone know their typical deposit schedule for back pay?

Thanks! I figured as much but got my hopes up when the agent said "immediately." Appreciate the reality check.

Back payments typically follow the same process as regular weekly claims. ESD's payment system doesn't process on weekends or holidays. When they say "immediately," it means they've approved it for the next processing cycle. The standard timeline is: 1. Approval entered into system 2. Payment batch processing (usually overnight on business days) 3. ACH transfer initiation to your bank 4. Bank posting (can take 1-3 business days depending on your bank) Since your approval happened Friday afternoon, the payment processing would happen Monday, with funds typically showing up Tuesday or Wednesday depending on your bank. If it's urgent for rent, you might want to contact your landlord and explain the situation with proof of your ESD approval.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll call my landlord tomorrow and explain. I didn't realize there were that many steps involved even after approval.

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me back in January!! The adjudicator told me "immediately" too on a Friday and I was checking my account all weekend like a crazy person LOL. My payment actually took until Wednesday to show up. Apparently there's some 48-hour hold or something after they process it? I nearly had a panic attack waiting but it DID come through eventually. Just be prepared it might not be there by Monday.

Same here!! It took 3 business days after my "immediate" processing. ESD really needs to change their wording because immediate doesn't mean THE SAME DAY in ESD-speak 🙄

I think it depends on your bank too. My credit union posts ESD deposits the same day they receive them but my friend with Chase said they hold them for a day sometimes? Not sure if thats still true but worth checking your banks policies on ACH deposits from government agencies.

I'm with Bank of America. Will check their policies - didn't even think about the bank side of things!

If you urgently need to reach ESD to confirm the payment status, I discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual ESD agent when I was in a similar situation with back payments. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. I was skeptical but got connected to ESD in about 15 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. The agent was able to tell me exactly when my payment would post which gave me peace of mind.

Thanks for the tip! If I don't see anything by Tuesday morning I'll probably try this. The waiting and uncertainty is killing me.

I used this service too!! Totally worth it when you've been trying to get through for days. ESD really needs to fix their phone system.

ESD payment specialist here. Let me clarify the process: Backpay follows the same system as regular payments. Our payment processing system runs Monday-Friday, with no weekend processing. When an adjudicator says a payment will be processed "immediately," they mean it will be entered into the next processing cycle. For a decision made Friday afternoon: - The payment would enter Monday's overnight batch process - Tuesday morning it would be transmitted via ACH to your bank - Your bank then typically takes 24-48 hours to post it to your account So realistically, you're looking at Wednesday or Thursday for the funds to be available. This timeline can vary slightly depending on holidays, system maintenance, or your bank's processing times. You can check your account on the ESD website - once it shows "paid" status, the money has been sent to your bank.

Thank you SO much for this detailed explanation! This is exactly what I needed to know. I'll check the ESD website tomorrow to see if the status has changed to paid.

This should be pinned somewhere! I wish they'd just tell us this timeline when they approve our claims instead of saying "immediately" and getting our hopes up!

NOBODY at ESD understands what "immediate" means!!! I had an adjudicator tell me the EXACT SAME THING last month and then I had to wait 5 DAYS for the money to actually hit my account. The system is totally broken and they don't care at all about people who are desperate for their payments. Seven weeks of adjudication is ridiculous too, mine took 9 weeks and I almost got evicted waiting!!!

9 weeks?! That's insane. I thought my 7 weeks was bad. Did you end up getting all your back pay at once?

Yeah I got it all at once but it was too late to avoid the late fees on everything. ESD should have to pay interest on delayed payments if you ask me!!

just a heads up but sometimes backpay comes in separate deposits over a couple days if its for multiple weeks so dont panic if you only see partial payment at first

Oh that's good to know! I'd definitely panic if I only saw part of it. Thanks for the warning.

One more thing to note: If you filed your weekly claims correctly during the adjudication period, the back payments should process automatically now that your claim has been approved. However, if you missed filing any weekly claims during that time, you'll need to contact ESD to request backdating for those weeks. You won't automatically get paid for weeks you didn't file a claim for, even if you were eligible for those weeks.

I filed every week religiously even though they were all showing as "disqualified" while in adjudication. The agent confirmed all 6 weeks would be paid out. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly!

Perfect! Then you should see all payments process together or in quick succession. Good job staying on top of those weekly filings - many people don't realize how important that is during adjudication.
