TWC told me to verify with ID.me - normal process or red flag?
Just finished a call with TWC after waiting for HOURS and the rep told me I need to verify my identity through ID.me before my claim can move forward. Didn't give me much details about why - just said it's required. Has anyone else had to do this? Is this a good sign that my claim is moving forward or does it mean there's a problem? The whole process seems so confusing and I'm worried about providing all my personal info to some website I've never heard of. Would appreciate hearing from others who've gone through this ID.me thing with TWC.

•Thanks for confirming! Did you have any issues with the verification process? How long did it take for your claim to process after you did the ID.me thing?

This is completely standard procedure now. TWC implemented mandatory ID.me verification in late 2024 as a fraud prevention measure for all new claims. It's actually a good sign that your claim is progressing through the normal stages. Make sure you have these documents ready before starting the process: - A valid government photo ID (driver's license or passport) - Social Security card or tax document showing your SSN - A smartphone that can receive texts for the verification code The process takes about 15-20 minutes if you have everything ready. Once completed, it usually takes 1-3 business days for TWC to receive the verification results, then your claim can move forward.

I had to do this too and it was SUCH A NIGHTMARE!!! The ID.me process kept freezing during the facial recognition part and I had to start over like 5 times. Then when I finally got through it, TWC still had my claim on hold for another 2 weeks! When I called to ask why, they said they were "still waiting for verification" even though ID.me showed I was verified!! The whole system is broken and they just make it complicated on purpose to deny people benefits!!!!

•That sounds frustrating! I wonder if trying a different browser might help with the freezing issue? I had some problems with Chrome but Safari worked fine for me.

I went through the ID.me verification in March. It's a legitimate service that many government agencies use, not just TWC. The verification is a standard part of the unemployment claim process now. One tip - when you go through the verification, make sure the name, address, and all information you enter in ID.me EXACTLY matches what you put on your TWC application. Even small differences (like using "Street" vs "St") can cause delays in processing. If you get stuck in the verification process, ID.me does offer video chat verification with a trusted referee, but the wait times can be several hours. After verification, I still had trouble reaching someone at TWC to confirm they received it. I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to a TWC agent without waiting on hold for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. Getting through to a live agent made all the difference in resolving my verification issues.

•Thanks for the detailed info! I'll definitely make sure all my info matches exactly. That's a really helpful tip. And I'll check out that Claimyr service if I have trouble reaching TWC again - it took me nearly 3 hours to get through today and I don't want to go through that again!

I remember when we didnt have to do all this verification stuff. Been on unemployment three times in my life and this last time in 2025 was the only time I had to use ID.me. Just another hoop to jump through if you ask me. But yes its normal now.

I had to complete ID.me verification last month. It's definitely a normal part of the process now. Here's what I learned: 1. The ID.me verification is completely separate from TWC's system, so you'll create a new account just for ID.me 2. After verification, it took about 2 business days for TWC to update my claim status 3. You'll need good lighting for the selfie/video portion of the verification 4. Have multiple forms of ID ready just in case (I needed my driver's license AND my passport) It's actually meant to protect you from fraud too, not just TWC. Once I completed it, my claim was processed pretty quickly. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the responses! I feel much better knowing this is a normal part of the process. I'll try to complete the ID.me verification tonight and hopefully my claim will move forward. Will update if I run into any issues!

•Good luck! Remember to file your payment requests on your assigned days even if your claim is still pending verification. This ensures you won't miss any benefits once your claim is approved.

Just wanted to add that if you run into technical issues with ID.me (like the website timing out or camera not working), try using a different device or browser. I had problems on my laptop but it worked perfectly on my phone. Also, make sure you're in a well-lit area for the selfie verification - I had to retake mine twice because the lighting was too dim. The whole thing really is standard now, so don't stress too much about it!

•Thanks for the tip about trying different devices! I was planning to do it on my old laptop but maybe I should just use my phone instead. Did you have to download the ID.me app or were you able to do everything through the mobile browser?

•I did it through the mobile browser without downloading the app. Worked great! The browser version seemed more stable than trying to use their app. Just make sure you have a good internet connection when you do it.

I just went through the ID.me verification process last week and wanted to share my experience. It really is completely normal now - TWC requires it for pretty much all new claims as others have mentioned. One thing I'd add is to make sure you do the verification when you have some uninterrupted time. I tried to rush through it during my lunch break and ended up having to start over because I got distracted and the session timed out. The second time I set aside about 30 minutes and it went smoothly. Also, if you wear glasses like I do, you might need to take them off for the facial recognition part. The system had trouble matching my face with my driver's license photo at first. Once I removed my glasses, it worked perfectly. Your claim should definitely move forward once the verification is complete - it's just one of those necessary steps now. Best of luck with the process!
