Sudden ID.me verification request after TWC approval - no notice in correspondence?

I got approved for unemployment benefits 2 weeks ago and was actually feeling relieved for once. Then last night I got this random email saying I need to verify my identity through ID.me with some verification code. I immediately logged into my TWC account to check my correspondence inbox and there's absolutely NOTHING new there about needing to verify my identity. No notices, no new messages, nothing. Is this email legit or some kind of scam? Should I ignore it or call TWC about it? I'm worried if I don't do the verification they'll cut off my benefits, but I'm also nervous about clicking random links. Has anyone else had this happen where you get an ID.me verification request after already being approved? What did you do?

That's what I'm saying - I DID check my TWC account and there's nothing there about needing to verify! That's why I'm so confused.

BE CAREFUL!!! TWC never sends verification codes through email!! It's probably a SCAM trying to steal your information and unemployment money!!! They ALWAYS put notices in your correspondence inbox first. I got a similar email last month and when I called TWC they confirmed it was a scam. These thieves are getting more sophisticated!!

This is actually a known issue right now. TWC implemented a new fraud detection system in early 2025 that sometimes flags accounts for additional verification even after approval. The problem is there's a glitch where the system sends the email but doesn't always generate the corresponding notice in your correspondence inbox. My recommendation: 1. DON'T click any links in the email 2. Go directly to ID.me's official website (id.me) and check if there's a pending verification request for TWC 3. If nothing shows there, call TWC directly to confirm if they really need additional verification The system should have put a notice in your correspondence, so the fact that there isn't one is concerning. Better safe than sorry.

Thank you! This is really helpful. I'll check the official ID.me site first and then call TWC to confirm. I was definitely nervous about clicking random links.

just went through this last week. it was legit in my case but the notice showed up in my inbox 2 days AFTER the email came. twc systems are a mess right now with all these fraud cases happening. definitely call to verify before doing anything.

UPDATE: So I've been trying to call TWC for the past 3 hours. Either busy signal or it disconnects me after 45 minutes on hold. This is getting so frustrating! I need to know if this verification is real before my benefits get messed up. Any tips on getting through to an actual person?

I was in the same boat last month trying to reach TWC about an identity verification issue. After days of busy signals, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to a TWC agent within 15 minutes. They have a system that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh Much better than hitting redial all day. The agent confirmed my verification request was legitimate but had been triggered by an automated system, which is why there was a delay in it showing up in my correspondence.

To directly answer your question - yes, this is happening more frequently since TWC upgraded their fraud detection systems. Here's what's likely occurring: 1. Their new AI system flagged something in your claim for additional verification 2. The email notification system ran before the correspondence system updated 3. The notice will probably appear in your correspondence within 48-72 hours However, the verification request is time-sensitive (usually 7 days), so waiting for the notice to appear isn't ideal. Your best approach is to contact TWC directly to confirm this is legitimate. If it is, they can tell you exactly what you need to do. Whenever dealing with identity verification requests, always go directly to the official website rather than clicking email links. For TWC-related ID.me verification, you should access it through your TWC account portal after confirming with a representative.

But if there's NOTHING in the correspondence inbox, isn't that proof it's a SCAM?? TWC is required BY LAW to put all notices in your correspondence!!! Why are you telling people to trust random emails???

I understand your concern, but I'm not suggesting they trust the email. I'm advising them to contact TWC directly to verify if the request is legitimate before taking any action. The system glitch I mentioned is well-documented - many claimants have reported receiving legitimate verification emails before the notice appears in correspondence due to a timing issue between different TWC systems. You're right that normally all notices should appear in correspondence, but their new fraud detection system has created this specific issue. Always verify directly with TWC before proceeding with any verification request.

FINAL UPDATE: Just wanted to close the loop on this in case anyone else has the same problem. I used Claimyr to get through to TWC (took about 20 minutes instead of endless busy signals). The agent confirmed it WAS a legitimate verification request from their new fraud prevention system. Apparently there was a glitch where the notice wasn't generating in my correspondence. The agent manually added the notice to my account and walked me through the verification process. For anyone else who gets a random ID.me verification email without seeing anything in your correspondence inbox - DEFINITELY call TWC to verify before doing anything. Don't click email links, but also don't ignore it because it could affect your benefits. Thanks everyone for your help!

Thanks for updating the thread! This is really helpful information. The new fraud prevention system is definitely causing some confusion, but I'm glad you got it sorted out. And thank you for confirming the exact process for others - always call to verify first, never click email links, and make sure to complete legitimate verification requests to avoid benefits interruption.
