TWC called asking for ID proof after verification - will they take back my benefits?
So confused right now! TWC just called me today asking for proof of ID for my claim. The weird thing is I already completed the ID.me verification process like 3 weeks ago. The agent said they would 'contact me if they need it' - what does that even mean?? Are they suspicious about my identity? Will they stop my payments or make me pay back money they already sent? Has anyone else had TWC call about identity AFTER you already verified through ID.me? I'm freaking out a little because I can't afford to repay anything if they decide something's wrong.

•Did you have to send anything extra? Or did they just never contact you again? I'm so worried about this!

This is actually pretty common with TWC right now. There's been a lot of fraud lately, so they're doing additional verification checks even after ID.me. If they said they'll contact you if needed, they're probably just reviewing your claim and making notes. They typically only ask for repayment if they determine there was actual fraud or a disqualifying factor. Did they mention what specific documents they might need? Sometimes they want additional proof beyond what ID.me collects.

•They didnt say what specific documents they might want. The call came from a blocked number which made me nervous, but they knew details about my claim. Should I call TWC myself to make sure everything is ok?

THEY DID THIS TO ME TOO!!! Called after I already verified then FROZE my payments for 6 WEEKS while they "investigated" even though I sent everything they asked for!!! The TWC system is BROKEN!!!!

•This happened to me too, but it wasn't nearly that bad. They called asking for additional verification, I uploaded my driver's license and SS card to my portal, and everything was resolved within a week. No payment interruptions.

This is part of TWC's stepped-up fraud prevention measures. What typically happens is that your claim gets flagged for a secondary review, which includes a verification call. The phrase "we'll contact you if needed" usually means everything looks okay on their initial review, but they're leaving the door open for additional documentation if something doesn't match up in their system. In most cases, if you've legitimately verified through ID.me and all your information is accurate, you won't hear from them again about this specific issue. They won't take back money they've already sent unless they determine there's an actual eligibility problem with your claim. If you're concerned, log into your TWC account and check for any correspondence or tasks in your inbox. That's where they'll notify you if they need something else from you.

•Thank you! I checked my TWC account and don't see any new messages or tasks. I guess that's a good sign? I'll keep checking daily.

I had exactly this issue last month! TWC has been randomly selecting claims for additional ID verification even after the ID.me process. When they told me they'd "contact me if needed," I never heard from them again and my payments continued normally. If you're still worried and can't get through on the phone, try Claimyr.com. It helped me connect with a TWC agent in about 20 minutes when I couldn't get through for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh It was worth it for the peace of mind to confirm everything was fine with my claim.

•Thank you! I might try that service if I don't hear anything in the next couple days. Just watched the video and it looks pretty straightforward.

When I got a similar call, I just uploaded copies of my ID, social security card, and birth certificate to my TWC portal just to be safe. Never heard anything else about it and my payments kept coming. Don't stress too much, they're just being extra careful these days.

•Wait, you can upload documents to your portal without them asking? I didn't know that was an option. I'll look into doing that as a precaution.

Yes, you can proactively upload documents to your TWC portal. Go to the main dashboard, click on "Unemployment Benefits Services," then look for the "Submission of Work Search and Other Items" section. There should be an option for document upload. Just to clarify one thing - when TWC says they'll "contact you if needed," it typically means your current documentation looks sufficient, but they're keeping the option open. Most people never get a follow-up call if everything checks out in their system review.

•Great! I just found where to upload documents and added my driver's license, SS card, and a recent utility bill just to be safe. Feeling much better now. Thank you all for the help!

Smart move uploading those documents proactively! That's exactly what I would recommend. I went through something similar a few months ago - got the verification call even after completing ID.me, uploaded my documents just like you did, and never heard another word about it. One thing that helped ease my anxiety was setting up text notifications in my TWC portal so I'd get immediate alerts if they needed anything else. You can find that under account settings. That way you're not constantly checking your account wondering if something new came up. Sounds like you handled this perfectly though. The fact that you don't have any pending tasks in your portal and your payments are still processing is a really good sign that everything is fine with your claim.

•That's a great tip about setting up text notifications! I didn't even know that was an option. Just went into my account settings and turned those on. Thanks for sharing your experience - it really helps to know others have gone through the exact same thing and everything worked out fine. I'm feeling a lot more confident about this whole situation now.

I've been through this exact situation twice now with TWC! The first time I panicked just like you, but it turned out to be completely routine. They're doing these secondary verification calls on a lot of claims right now, even after ID.me verification is complete. The key phrase "we'll contact you if needed" is actually good news - it means they're not seeing any red flags that require immediate action. In my experience, about 80% of people who get this call never hear back about it. Since you've already uploaded your documents proactively, you're in great shape. Just keep an eye on your payment schedule and your TWC inbox. If your payments continue processing normally over the next week or two, you can pretty much consider this matter closed. The fact that they didn't ask for specific documents during the call suggests they're just doing their due diligence, not investigating a problem.
