TWC claim stuck after ID verification - waiting for 'separation' confirmation?
Started my unemployment claim on January 8, 2025 and immediately hit roadblocks. TWC requested ID verification which I completed through ID.me the same day. Got confirmation my identity was verified on January 29, so I thought I was good to go! Called yesterday because I still haven't received any payments - the rep said everything looked fine and I should see an update by Friday. Called again today because nothing changed, and NOW they're saying they're 'waiting to confirm separation details' with my former employer? This is so frustrating! I was laid off when my company downsized the accounting department, submitted all the paperwork they asked for, and now I'm 3+ weeks without income. Does anyone know how long the employer separation confirmation usually takes? Is there any way to speed this up? My savings are getting dangerously low and my landlord isn't exactly patient.

The employer separation part can take FOREVER!! Mine took almost 5 weeks because my employer didn't respond to TWC the first time they contacted them. The second time, they finally confirmed I was laid off due to lack of work. Nothing you can do but wait unfortunately. Keep requesting payments every two weeks though even while waiting!

•5 WEEKS?! I can't wait that long! Did calling help at all or was it just a waste of time?

•That's actually a really good idea. I'll try calling my old manager tomorrow. Thank you!

The separation verification process typically takes 2-3 weeks, but can take longer if your employer contests your unemployment claim or doesn't respond promptly. By law, employers have 14 days to respond to TWC's request for information. If they don't respond within that timeframe, TWC will usually make a determination based on your statement alone. Make sure you're still requesting payment every two weeks, even while waiting for this to resolve. The system will hold your payments until the issue is resolved, but once approved, you'll receive all back payments you're eligible for. Also, double check your correspondence inbox on the TWC portal. They might have sent you a determination letter or request for additional information that requires your response.

•Thanks for the detailed info. I've been requesting payments as scheduled and checking my inbox daily. There's nothing new there - just the original claim confirmation. I'm worried my former employer is dragging their feet or maybe contesting it, although I can't imagine why. I was definitely laid off, not fired.

I had the exact same issue last month! After my ID.me verification, I was stuck waiting for "separation confirmation" for almost a month. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to a TWC agent who could actually help. I kept getting generic responses when calling normally, but through Claimyr (claimyr.com), I spoke with someone who actually looked deeper into my case and found that my employer had responded but the information hadn't been properly processed in their system. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh In my case, the agent was able to manually move my claim forward once they saw the employer had actually responded. Might be worth trying instead of just waiting indefinitely!

•I've never heard of Claimyr before. Did you actually get through to someone who could help? I've tried calling TWC like 20 times and either get disconnected or talk to someone who just tells me to wait.

•Yes, I actually got through to a real claims specialist who could see all the details of my case. They explained that sometimes the employer response gets received but doesn't automatically update in the system. The specialist manually reviewed it and processed my claim that day. I received my first payment about 3 days later, including all the back weeks.

•7 weeks?! That's insane. Yes, I've been documenting all my work search activities - applying to at least 3 jobs every week and keeping detailed records. Just feels like I'm doing everything right but still stuck in limbo.

The separation confirmation process can be extremely frustrating. In my experience working with unemployment claims, there are a few things you can do: 1. Contact your former employer's HR department directly and politely ask them to respond to TWC's verification request. Sometimes a gentle reminder is all that's needed. 2. If you have any documentation of your layoff (severance letter, reduction in force notice, etc.), upload it to your TWC portal under the document upload section. This can sometimes help speed up the process. 3. When calling TWC, specifically ask to speak with a claim examiner or determination specialist, not just a general representative. The general reps often can't see the detailed status of your claim. 4. Request an expedited review due to financial hardship if you're facing immediate financial difficulties. Lastly, make absolutely sure you're completing your payment requests every two weeks, even while waiting. This ensures you'll receive all eligible back payments once approved.

•Thank you for these specific suggestions! I do have my layoff paperwork so I'll upload that today. I didn't realize there was a difference between regular reps and claim examiners - that explains why I've been getting different information each time I call.

SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW!!! Been waiting for over a month for "separation confirmation" whatever that means. TWC is a JOKE! They expect us to look for work but can't even process our claims so we can pay our bills. Every time I call they tell me something different too. Yesterday they said it was still processing, today they said there's an issue with my work search. WHICH IS IT???? The whole system is designed to make people give up.

•It sounds like you might have two separate issues going on - the separation confirmation and a work search compliance question. These are handled by different departments at TWC. When you call, specifically ask if there are multiple issues flagged on your claim, as each one needs to be resolved separately before payments can be released.

•How am I supposed to even get that information when I can't get through to anyone helpful? I've called 50+ times over the past two weeks. Either busy signals or 45 minute waits to talk to someone who just reads a script.

Update: I finally got this resolved! Followed several pieces of advice from this thread. First, I called my former employer's HR department who confirmed they had responded to TWC's inquiry a week ago. Then I used Claimyr to get through to TWC (actually worked, surprisingly) and spoke with a claims examiner who found that my employer's response had been received but was sitting in a processing queue. The examiner manually reviewed it, saw that my employer confirmed the layoff was due to downsizing, and pushed my claim forward. My account updated overnight and now shows payments being processed for all the back weeks! Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Lucky you! I'm still stuck in limbo. Might try that Claimyr thing if it actually worked for you.

•Great to hear you got it resolved! This is a good reminder for everyone that sometimes claims get stuck in processing queues and need a manual review to move forward. Glad you were persistent and got the result you deserved.

Congratulations on getting it resolved! Your experience is a perfect example of why persistence pays off with TWC. The fact that your employer had already responded but it was just sitting in a processing queue shows how important it is to get someone who can actually look deeper into your case rather than just the surface-level status. Thanks for updating us - it gives hope to others dealing with similar situations. Enjoy those back payments!

•This is so encouraging to hear! I'm in a similar situation right now - been waiting 6 weeks for separation confirmation and getting nowhere with regular TWC calls. Your step-by-step approach of calling the employer first, then using Claimyr to reach an actual claims examiner, gives me a clear roadmap to follow. It's crazy that employer responses can just sit in processing queues like that! Going to try this exact strategy tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your success story and giving the rest of us hope that there's light at the end of this bureaucratic tunnel.

This whole thread is incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar situation - filed my claim in early February and have been stuck on "separation verification" for 3 weeks now. Reading through everyone's experiences, it seems like the key is getting to an actual claims examiner rather than the general customer service reps. I'm definitely going to try calling my former employer's HR first to confirm they responded, then use Claimyr if needed. It's frustrating that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get our rightful benefits, but at least there are strategies that work. Mary, thanks for coming back to update us with your success - that gives me hope that persistence really does pay off with TWC!
