TWC approval timeline after HR confirmed my unemployment eligibility - how long did yours take?
Got laid off last Tuesday from my manufacturing job (company downsizing). HR said they wouldn't contest my unemployment claim and even gave me something in writing stating I was laid off due to no fault of my own. I filed my TWC claim the same day and uploaded the document from HR. My online account just shows "Under Review" with no other details. I'm getting anxious because rent is due in 3 weeks and my savings are pretty thin. For those who had a straightforward layoff with employer confirmation, how long did TWC take to approve your claim? Did having HR confirmation speed things up at all? This waiting game is killing me!

mine took 11 days from filing to approval, and that was with my company confirming everything. but i know people who waited almost a month even with hr backing them up. twc is super unpredictable rn

•11 days doesn't sound too bad actually. Did they backpay you for the waiting period once approved?

Even with HR confirmation, the process typically takes 2-3 weeks for approval. Texas has a mandatory one-week waiting period after approval before you can request your first payment. The TWC has to verify your wages with your employer and confirm the reason for separation, even when the employer isn't contesting. You should keep requesting payments on your assigned days even while your claim is under review - this ensures you'll get all eligible weeks once approved. Some things that can help speed up the process: 1. Make sure your work search requirements are being met and documented (minimum 3 per week) 2. Check your TWC correspondence inbox daily for any information requests 3. Verify all your personal information is correct on the claim

•Thanks for such a detailed response. I've been documenting my work searches - didn't realize I could request payments while still under review. Will definitely do that on my assigned day.

My supervisor told me same thing when I got laid off they woudnt contest, but TWC still took almost 5 weeks to approve me! And then another whole week before I could request payment. Total nightmare and I almost got evicted. System is broken!!!

•This is why I recommend Claimyr to anyone dealing with TWC delays. I was in the same situation - waiting for weeks with no updates. Used Claimyr.com and actually got through to a TWC rep in about 30 minutes instead of spending days getting busy signals. They connected me directly to a TWC agent who pushed my claim through. Worth checking out their demo video: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. Saved me weeks of waiting and stress.

The TWC approval timeline varies significantly based on several factors, even with employer confirmation. Based on my experience helping clients with unemployment claims, I can say: - Simple layoffs with employer confirmation: 10-15 business days is typical - Complex situations or missing documentation: 3-6 weeks - High volume periods (like end of quarter): Add 5-7 more days HR confirmation definitely helps, but TWC still goes through their verification process. They'll verify your base period wages, check your work history, and review the separation reason. Having documentation from HR stating your layoff was "no fault of your own" is excellent - keep that safe in case of future issues. One important note: Make sure you're submitting your payment requests on your assigned days even while waiting for approval. The system will hold those requests, and once approved, you'll receive payments for those weeks (minus the waiting week).

•That makes sense. I'm hoping since mine is pretty straightforward (clear layoff with HR documentation) it'll be on the shorter end of that timeline. Thanks for breaking it down so clearly.

Just went through this last month. My approval took exactly 18 days and I had a letter from HR too. My cousin got approved in 9 days from the same company though so who knows how they decide the order lol

Am I the only one who thinks it's RIDICULOUS that TWC takes weeks to approve claims when they ALREADY HAVE the employer confirmation?? Why should we have to wait when they have EVERYTHING they need? This system is deliberately designed to make people suffer and I'm sick of it. I had to wait 26 days last year even with HR full cooperation and almost lost my car!!! The whole thing is broken and nobody in government cares!!!!

•While I understand your frustration, the delay is often because TWC has to verify wage information across multiple quarters, check your work history, and ensure you meet all eligibility requirements beyond just the separation reason. They're handling thousands of claims with limited staff. That said, I agree the process could be much more efficient with better technology and additional resources.

my friend works at twc and says they're SUPER behind on processing because they lost a bunch of staff after covid and never replaced them. she said even with employer confirmation it's taking 3-4 weeks minimum right now because of backlog... sorry to be the bearer of bad news :

•That's really helpful insider info, thanks. At least now I have a better idea of what to expect. I'll budget accordingly.

Quick update for anyone following this thread: As of January 2025, TWC is stating on their website that the average processing time for standard unemployment claims (not involving disputes) is 16-21 business days. This is longer than their pre-pandemic average of 10-14 days. If your claim goes beyond 21 business days without any update, that's when you should try to contact them for status. Make sure you're checking your correspondence inbox daily, as they may request additional information which could delay your claim further.

•Thank you! Just checked today and I'm at day 9 of waiting, so looks like I have a bit more to go based on the current timelines. Really appreciate everyone's input on this.

I'm going through the exact same situation right now! Got laid off from my retail job two weeks ago due to store closure, and my manager gave me a letter confirming it was no fault of my own. Filed my claim immediately but still showing "Under Review." The uncertainty is the worst part - I keep refreshing the portal hoping for an update. Based on what everyone's saying here, sounds like I need to prepare for at least another week or two of waiting. Really wish TWC would give more specific timelines or at least update the status more frequently so we're not left guessing!

•I totally feel your pain! The constant portal refreshing becomes an obsession, doesn't it? I'm doing the same thing multiple times a day hoping to see some change from "Under Review." It's reassuring to know I'm not alone in this situation. The store closure documentation should definitely help your case - sounds like you have solid proof it wasn't your fault. Hang in there, and thanks for sharing your experience. Maybe we'll both get good news soon!

I'm dealing with this exact situation right now too! Filed my claim 6 days ago after being laid off from my office job. My HR department was super helpful and provided documentation that it was due to budget cuts, not performance issues. Still showing "Under Review" though. Reading everyone's experiences here is actually really helpful - I was starting to panic thinking something was wrong with my claim. Sounds like I need to be patient for at least another week or two. The financial stress is real though, especially with bills coming up. Thanks everyone for sharing your timelines, it's giving me a better sense of what to expect!

•I'm in almost the exact same boat! Filed my claim 8 days ago after getting laid off from a tech company due to restructuring. HR was great about it and gave me all the paperwork I needed, but I'm also stuck at "Under Review" with no other updates. The financial anxiety is definitely getting to me too - I keep calculating how long my emergency fund will last. It's somewhat comforting to see so many others going through the same thing and that 2-3 weeks seems to be the norm right now. Hopefully we'll both hear something positive soon!

I'm currently waiting too - filed 12 days ago after being laid off from my warehouse job due to company downsizing. My supervisor confirmed in writing that it was purely economic and not performance-related. Still stuck on "Under Review" but reading everyone's experiences here is really reassuring. I was worried something was wrong with my application, but it sounds like 2-3 weeks is pretty standard right now. The hardest part is not knowing exactly when to expect approval, but at least now I have a realistic timeline to plan around. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it's helping me manage my expectations and budget accordingly while I wait this out!

•I'm in a similar situation too! Filed my claim 5 days ago after being laid off from my customer service job due to company restructuring. My manager provided a letter stating it was entirely due to business reasons, not my performance. Also stuck at "Under Review" and checking the portal obsessively! It's really helpful reading everyone's timelines here - sounds like we're all part of the 2-3 week waiting club right now. The uncertainty is definitely the hardest part, but at least now I know this is normal and not just my claim having issues. Hoping we all get approved soon and can stop refreshing that portal every few hours!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Got laid off from my restaurant job 10 days ago when they had to close permanently due to lease issues. My manager gave me paperwork confirming it was business closure, not anything I did wrong. Filed my TWC claim the next day but I'm still stuck on "Under Review" too. Reading all these responses is actually making me feel so much better - I was starting to worry that maybe I messed something up on my application! Sounds like the 2-3 week wait is just the reality right now. The financial stress is definitely real though, especially since restaurant workers don't always have huge savings built up. Thanks everyone for sharing your timelines and experiences - it's helping me stay sane during this waiting period!

•I completely understand what you're going through! The restaurant industry layoffs have been really tough, and it sounds like you have solid documentation with the business closure paperwork. That should definitely work in your favor once TWC gets to your claim. I'm in day 9 of waiting myself, so we're probably in similar spots in the queue. It's crazy how much better I feel just knowing this 2-3 week timeline is normal and not something wrong with our applications. The financial stress is so real - I keep doing the math on my bills too. Hang in there, and hopefully we'll all be celebrating approvals soon instead of refreshing that portal constantly!

I'm in the exact same boat as you! Got laid off from my accounting firm 8 days ago due to budget cuts. My supervisor gave me a separation letter confirming it was purely financial and not performance-related. Still showing "Under Review" on my TWC portal and I'm refreshing it obsessively! Reading everyone's experiences here is so reassuring - I was starting to panic thinking I did something wrong on my application. The 2-3 week timeline everyone's mentioning is helpful to know, even though the waiting is brutal when you're watching your savings dwindle. The uncertainty is definitely the worst part. At least now I can stop expecting it to change overnight and plan my budget around a realistic timeline. Thanks for posting this question - it's exactly what I needed to see right now!

•I'm so glad I found this thread too! Filed my claim 7 days ago after getting laid off from my marketing job due to company-wide layoffs. HR was amazing and provided all the documentation I needed, but I'm also stuck at that dreaded "Under Review" status. Like everyone else, I've been obsessively checking the portal hoping for any change! It's such a relief to know that 2-3 weeks is the current norm and that having HR documentation really does help, even if it doesn't speed things up dramatically. The financial anxiety is so real - I keep calculating how long my emergency fund will last. But reading everyone's similar experiences here is honestly keeping me sane. We're all in this waiting game together! Hopefully we'll start seeing some approvals soon.

I'm also in the waiting game right now! Filed my claim 6 days ago after being laid off from my construction job due to project cancellation. My foreman provided written confirmation that it was completely due to lack of work, not my performance. Still stuck on "Under Review" like everyone else here. This thread has been incredibly helpful - I was getting really anxious thinking maybe I messed up my application somehow. Knowing that 2-3 weeks is the current standard timeline helps me plan better, even though the wait is stressful when bills are piling up. The portal checking obsession is so real! I've probably refreshed it 20 times today alone. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - it's reassuring to know we're all going through the same thing and that having employer documentation does help, even if it doesn't speed up the process as much as we'd hope.

•Construction layoffs can be especially tough since the work is so project-dependent. Having that written confirmation from your foreman should definitely help your case once TWC gets to reviewing it. I'm on day 12 of waiting myself, so we're all basically in the same queue together! The portal refresh addiction is so real - I think I've checked mine about 15 times just today hoping to see something other than "Under Review." It's amazing how much this thread has helped calm my nerves about the whole process. At least now I know the 2-3 week timeline is normal and not a sign that something's wrong with our applications. Hang in there - hopefully we'll all start seeing some movement soon!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed my claim 4 days ago after getting laid off from my healthcare job due to department restructuring. My manager provided a letter stating it was purely budget-related and not performance issues. Still showing "Under Review" and I've been checking the portal constantly! This thread is such a lifesaver - I was starting to think something was wrong with my application. The 2-3 week timeline everyone's sharing helps me set realistic expectations, even though the financial stress is intense with rent due soon. It's crazy how we're all obsessively refreshing that portal hoping for updates! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - knowing I'm not alone in this waiting period is really helping my anxiety. Hopefully we'll all get some good news soon instead of just staring at that "Under Review" status!
