PA UC portal message attachments won't open - anyone else having this problem?

I've been trying to view the attachments in my PA unemployment dashboard messages for the past 3 days but keep getting an error. Every time I click on them, I either get a blank screen or an error message that says 'unable to display file.' These are important documents about my claim status! Has anyone else run into this issue? Is there another way to access these files? I'm worried I might miss something important about my claim.

Glad it's not just me! Have you called them about it? I tried but of course couldn't get through...

This is a known issue with the PA UC portal right now. Their system was updated last week and there are compatibility problems with certain browsers. Try using Microsoft Edge instead of Chrome or Firefox - worked for me. Also make sure your popup blockers are turned off for the UC website. If you still can't access them, you can request that they mail physical copies to your address by sending a message through the portal.

I had this same issue but switching browsers doesn't always work. My friend still couldn't open them after trying 3 different browsers. Something is definitely broken on their end.

When i had this problem last month it was sooooo annoying!!! I ended up having to call them and the lady told me that sometimes the files get corrupted when they upload them. she had to resend all my documents to my dashboard. took another 5 days to get them tho!

Thanks for the info! But how did you actually get through to someone on the phone? I've been calling for two days straight and can't get past the busy signal.

I work with PA UC claimants regularly, and this attachment issue has been affecting about 30% of users since their system update on April 8, 2025. The official workaround from PA UC is to: 1. Log out completely and clear your browser cache 2. Use Microsoft Edge (they optimized for this browser) 3. Disable any ad blockers or popup blockers 4. Try accessing between 7-9am when server load is lower If you still can't open them after trying these steps, you'll need to speak with a representative who can manually email the documents to you or mail physical copies.

Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll try those steps tomorrow morning. Do you have any tips for actually getting through on the phone if I still can't open them? The busy signal is driving me crazy!

After fighting with the PA UC phone lines for weeks, I finally used Claimyr to get through to a real person. It was the only way I could get my document issue fixed. The service connects you directly to a UC agent without the wait. Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 and their website claimyr.com. The agent I reached was able to email me all my attachments directly.

does this actually work? I'm skeptical of these 'skip the line' services...

Typical PA UC garbage system! They spent millions upgrading the portal and it's WORSE than before!! My brother works in IT and he says the whole system is built on outdated code. They should be ashamed of themselves for forcing us to deal with this junk. I bet they do it on purpose to deny claims.

While the system certainly has issues, I don't believe they're intentionally making it difficult. The recent portal upgrade was meant to handle increased security requirements and improve mobile access. Unfortunately, with any large government IT project, there are often unforeseen complications. They're actually working on a fix for the attachment issue that should be deployed by next week.

One more thing to try - sometimes it works if you download the file first instead of trying to open it directly in the browser. Look for a download option or right-click the attachment link. Then open it using the appropriate program on your computer (PDF reader, Word, etc).

Thank you! I just tried this and it actually worked for one of my attachments! The other still gives an error when downloading, but at least I got the time-sensitive one about my job search requirements. Really appreciate the help.

i remember last year when they updated the site EVERYTHING broke for like a month lol. benefits were delayed and people couldn't file weekly claims. at least this time its just attachments i guess??

Have you tried asking them to fax the documents instead? Sometimes old school methods work better than their buggy website. Just an idea.

A fax? I don't even know where I'd find a fax machine in 2025! But I appreciate the suggestion - might be worth asking if they can send documents that way if I get through to someone.

I had this exact same problem last week! What finally worked for me was switching to Edge like @Jade Lopez suggested, but I also had to completely sign out of the UC portal, restart my browser, and then sign back in. The combination of using Edge + fresh login session seemed to do the trick. Also, make sure you're not using any browser extensions that might be interfering - I had to disable my password manager temporarily. Hope this helps someone else avoid the headache I went through!

Thanks @Connor O'Neill! I'm definitely going to try the fresh login approach - I hadn't thought about completely signing out and restarting the browser. I've just been refreshing the page when it doesn't work. Did you have to disable your password manager for the whole session or could you turn it back on after the documents loaded?

I just dealt with this exact issue yesterday! What worked for me was a combination of a few things: First, I cleared my browser cache completely (not just cookies but the entire cache), then I switched to Edge and made sure to disable all browser extensions including ad blockers. The key thing that seemed to make the difference was accessing the portal during off-peak hours - I tried around 6:30 AM and the attachments opened right away. I think the server load during busy times might be making the attachment loading even more unstable than it already is. Also, for anyone still struggling, I found that some PDF attachments work better if you right-click and "Save As" instead of trying to open them directly in the browser. Good luck everyone - this system is definitely frustrating but don't give up!
