PA UC documents won't open - attachment links not working on mobile devices

Hi everyone, feeling really confused right now. I just got several messages in my PA unemployment dashboard about my pending claim but I'm having trouble viewing them. There are PDF attachments that I need to see, but when I click on the links nothing happens - they simply won't open. I've tried on both my iPad and my phone with the same result. Nothing. Are these documents important? Could they be telling me why my claim is delayed? Has anyone else had this issue with UC attachments not opening on mobile devices? Any suggestions for what I should do to actually see these documents? I'm worried I'll miss something important and my claim will get denied.

This is a common problem with the PA UC portal. Their PDF viewer doesn't work well on mobile devices. You need to try opening the documents on a regular computer. If you don't have one, you can try going to your local library and using their computers. The attachments probably contain important information about your claim status or could be requesting additional documentation from you, so you definitely want to view them ASAP.

Thank you! I don't have a computer at home anymore. I'll try the library tomorrow. Do you think there's a time limit on responding to whatever's in these documents? I'm worried about missing a deadline.

same thing happend 2 me last month!! so annoying. i had to go to my sisters house to use her laptop. the documents were requests for additional info and had deadlines. dont wait 2 long to figure it out!!

0 coins

Oh no, that's exactly what I was afraid of. I'll definitely get to the library first thing tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know about the deadlines!

The PA UC website is GARBAGE on mobile! I've been dealing with this for weeks. Can't open PDFs, can't upload documents properly, pages time out randomly. IT'S 2025 FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Why can't they make a system that actually WORKS on the devices most people actually USE?! I had to miss THREE DAYS of work just to deal with their broken system because I couldn't access my documents!

0 coins

Yep it's super frustrating. I remember when they "upgraded" the system last year and somehow made it even worse lol

There's actually a workaround for this that sometimes works on mobile. Try these steps: 1. Instead of tapping directly on the link, press and hold until a menu appears 2. Select "Open in new tab" or "Download link" 3. If downloading, you'll need a PDF reader app installed This worked for me on my Android phone, but results may vary depending on your device. As others mentioned, using a desktop/laptop is the most reliable option. The documents likely contain important information about your claim status or required actions, so viewing them promptly is important.

Thanks for the tip! I just tried your suggestion but still no luck on my iPad. The link doesn't seem to respond to long-press either. I think I'll have to go with the library computer option tomorrow.

I had a similar issue last month when trying to view documents about my open issue. If you're in a hurry to see what's in those attachments, you might want to try calling PA UC directly to ask about the content of these messages. But getting through on the phone is nearly impossible these days. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with a UC rep after spending days trying to get through. They have this service that gets you connected to a UC agent quickly - worked well for me. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The rep was able to tell me exactly what was in my documents and what I needed to do next. Saved me a lot of stress since my documents were time-sensitive notices about verification requirements.

0 coins

does that really work? i spent 3 hours on hold yesterday and gave up. might try this if it actually gets you through to someone

It worked for me! I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for 2 days straight. Got connected to a UC rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing.

Just to add some important info here - those attachments are likely one of these things: 1. Financial determination showing your weekly benefit amount 2. Request for additional documentation (with a deadline) 3. Notice about an issue on your claim that needs to be resolved 4. Information about job search requirements All of these are important, especially if there are deadlines involved. The PA UC system sends most official communications through these dashboard messages rather than email or regular mail now. I'd recommend checking these as soon as possible using a desktop computer.

Thank you for explaining what they might be! That's really helpful. I've been waiting on my financial determination for a couple weeks now, so that could be it. I'm definitely going to the library first thing tomorrow morning.

my cousin had this happen and the attachment was saying he needed to verify his identity thru id.me within 7 days or his claim would be denied!!! make sure u check those attachments!!

0 coins

Oh wow, that's definitely time-sensitive! Thanks for the warning. The ID.me verification is something I'd hate to miss a deadline on. Now I'm even more determined to check these documents ASAP.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread since a lot of people seem to be having the same issue. I spoke with a UC representative recently, and they mentioned this is a known issue with their system. They're supposedly working on a fix, but in the meantime: 1. Desktop/laptop is the most reliable way to view attachments 2. If using Chrome on mobile, request the desktop site (in settings) 3. Make sure you have a PDF reader app installed 4. Try different browsers if one doesn't work Also, for anyone reading this thread later - always check your dashboard messages at least twice a week. Important notices with deadlines are sent there, and you typically only have 7-15 days to respond depending on the type of notice.

Update: I went to the library and was able to view the attachments. They were requesting additional documentation about my last employer - I had to provide proof of my final paystub and separation notice within 7 days! So glad I checked when I did. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad you got it sorted out! Good luck with your claim 👍

This is such a relief to read! I'm a new claimant and just got my first dashboard messages today with PDF attachments that won't open on my phone. I was panicking thinking I'd broken something or that my claim was denied. Reading through all these responses, it sounds like this is just a widespread issue with PA's system. I'm going to head to the library tomorrow morning to check what's in those documents. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions - this community is so helpful for navigating all the confusing parts of the UC system!

Welcome to the community! You're definitely not alone in dealing with this frustrating issue. It's such a common problem that I think most of us have been through the same panic when those attachments won't open. The library solution really is your best bet - just make sure to bring some form of ID since most libraries require it for computer access. Also, if you're able to, try to go early in the day when it's less crowded. Good luck with your claim, and don't hesitate to ask if you run into any other issues!

Just wanted to add another potential solution that worked for me recently - if you have access to a friend or family member's computer, that's another option besides the library. I was having the same issue last week and borrowed my neighbor's laptop for 10 minutes to check my documents. Turned out to be my weekly certification reminder, but it's always better to be safe than sorry with these things! The PA UC system really needs to get their mobile compatibility issues fixed - it's 2025 and so many people rely on their phones for everything now.

0 coins

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought about asking neighbors or friends to borrow their computer for a few minutes. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones. It's really frustrating that we have to jump through all these hoops just to access basic information about our own claims. You're absolutely right that PA UC needs to prioritize fixing their mobile issues - most people don't have easy access to desktop computers anymore, especially those who are unemployed and may not have the resources for multiple devices.

I've been dealing with this exact same issue for the past few days! So frustrating that in 2025 we still can't properly access government services on mobile devices. I tried everything - different browsers, clearing cache, even downloading separate PDF apps - nothing worked. Finally had to drive 20 minutes to my parents' house to use their computer. The documents turned out to be about my benefit determination and had important info about my weekly amount. Really glad I checked because there was also information about when my payments would start. For anyone still struggling with this - don't wait too long to find a desktop solution. These documents often contain time-sensitive information that could affect your benefits if you miss it.

0 coins

Wow, 20 minutes is quite a drive just to check documents! But you're absolutely right about not waiting - I'm learning that these UC documents can be really time-sensitive. It's good to hear yours had your benefit determination info. I'm still waiting on mine and hoping that's what's in my attachments too. This whole thread has been so helpful in showing that this mobile issue is widespread and not just something wrong with my devices. Thanks for sharing your experience!

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now - got multiple dashboard messages yesterday with PDF attachments that just won't open on my phone or tablet. It's so reassuring to know this is a widespread problem with PA's system and not something I did wrong. I've been unemployed for about a month and was starting to panic that I'd somehow messed up my claim. Reading everyone's experiences here, I'm definitely going to try the library tomorrow morning. Quick question for those who've been through this - do the library computers usually have good internet speed for accessing the PA UC portal? I'm worried about the site timing out or being slow on public computers. Also, should I bring any specific documentation with me, or just my login info? Thanks everyone for sharing your solutions and making this less stressful for newcomers like me!

Hey Jessica! Library computers are usually fine for accessing the PA UC portal - most public libraries have decent internet speeds these days. Just bring your login credentials (username and password) and maybe have your SSN handy in case the system asks for additional verification. You shouldn't need any physical documents unless the attachments specifically request something to be uploaded. Also, call ahead or check the library's website to see if you need to reserve computer time - some libraries have time limits or require appointments. Don't stress too much about it timing out - the PA UC portal works much better on desktop browsers than mobile. Good luck tomorrow!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I just started my UC claim process last week and got hit with the same exact problem - PDF attachments that absolutely refuse to open on my Samsung phone. I was starting to think maybe my phone was broken or something. Reading through everyone's experiences here is such a relief because now I know it's just PA's terrible mobile system and not me doing something wrong. I'm definitely going to try the library solution tomorrow since I don't have a laptop at home. Quick question though - for those who successfully viewed their documents at the library, did you need to bring any ID or paperwork besides just your UC login info? Also, is there a particular browser that works better on library computers? I'm really nervous about missing something important since this is all new to me. Thanks for creating such a helpful community discussion!

Hi Sofia! Welcome to the community! You'll definitely need to bring a photo ID to use the library computers - most libraries require it for their computer access policy. As for your UC login, just bring your username and password. I've found that Chrome or Firefox work best on library computers for the PA UC portal. Don't worry about being nervous - we've all been there! The librarians are usually really helpful too if you need assistance. Also, try to go early in the day if possible since the computers can get busy later. You're doing everything right by checking these documents quickly - that's exactly what you should do. This community has been a lifesaver for navigating all of PA UC's quirks, so don't hesitate to ask if you run into any other issues!

This thread is incredibly helpful - thank you everyone for sharing your experiences! I'm dealing with the exact same frustrating issue right now. Got notification of new messages in my PA UC dashboard yesterday, but the PDF attachments just won't open on my iPhone no matter what I try. It's such a relief to know this is a widespread system issue and not something wrong with my phone or account. I'm definitely going to head to the library first thing tomorrow morning to check what's in these documents. Based on what others have shared here, it sounds like they could be anything from benefit determinations to requests for additional documentation with tight deadlines. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to explain the library computer process and what to bring. This community is such a valuable resource for navigating PA UC's technical problems - it makes dealing with unemployment stress a little more manageable when you know you're not alone in these issues!

You're so welcome, Andre! This community has been a lifesaver for me too when dealing with PA UC's technical issues. It's amazing how many of us have gone through this exact same problem with the PDF attachments not opening on mobile. You're definitely taking the right approach by heading to the library tomorrow - I've seen so many people in this thread find success with that solution. Make sure to bring your ID and login info, and like others mentioned, try to get there early before it gets busy. Don't stress too much about it - you're being proactive by checking these documents quickly, which is exactly what you should be doing. Keep us updated on what you find in those attachments! And remember, this community is always here if you run into any other PA UC hurdles along the way.

Just wanted to jump in as someone who recently went through this exact same frustrating experience! I'm a new member here but have been dealing with PA UC for a few months now. The mobile PDF issue is SO common - I think almost everyone in this community has dealt with it at some point. What really helped me was not just going to the library, but also creating a backup plan. I ended up writing down all my login info and keeping it in my wallet, plus I found out which of my friends and family have computers I could borrow in a pinch. Since PA UC seems to send these important documents with pretty short deadlines, having multiple options ready has saved me stress more than once. Also, for anyone reading this thread later - if you do end up at the library, don't be embarrassed to ask the librarians for help if you get stuck with the PA UC portal. They've probably helped dozens of people with this exact same issue! Thanks for starting this discussion - it's threads like this that make dealing with unemployment bureaucracy a little less isolating.

That's such smart advice about creating a backup plan and keeping your login info handy! I never thought about writing it down and keeping it in my wallet, but that makes total sense given how unpredictable these document notifications can be. The idea about asking librarians for help is really good too - I bet they've become unofficial PA UC tech support at this point with how many people probably come in with this exact problem! It's so true that having multiple computer access options ready can save a lot of stress when you're dealing with those tight deadlines. Thanks for sharing those practical tips - this is exactly the kind of real-world advice that makes this community so valuable for people navigating the PA UC system!

I'm so grateful to have found this thread! I just started my UC claim two weeks ago and ran into this exact same issue yesterday - got several dashboard messages with PDF attachments that absolutely refuse to open on my Android phone. I was honestly starting to panic, thinking maybe I had done something wrong with my application or that my phone was somehow blocking important UC communications. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been such a huge relief - knowing this is just a widespread technical issue with PA's system and not user error makes me feel so much better! I'm definitely planning to head to my local library tomorrow morning armed with my ID and login credentials. Based on all the helpful advice in this thread, I'm going to try to get there right when they open to avoid the computer rush. It's really reassuring to see that so many people have successfully resolved this by using desktop computers, and I love the suggestion about asking the librarians for help if needed - I bet they're practically UC tech experts at this point! This community is incredible for providing real solutions and emotional support during what's already a stressful time. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and making this feel less overwhelming for newcomers like me!

Welcome to the community, Maxwell! Your experience sounds exactly like what so many of us have gone through - that initial panic when the PDFs won't open is so real! You're definitely doing all the right things by planning ahead for the library visit. One small tip I'd add: if possible, try to have a backup library location in mind just in case your first choice is unexpectedly closed or has computer issues. I learned that the hard way when my usual library had a system outage on the day I really needed to check an urgent UC document! Also, don't forget to log out completely when you're done at the public computer for security. You're going to get through this just fine, and like everyone else has said, don't hesitate to ask questions here if you run into any other PA UC quirks along the way!

I just want to echo what everyone else is saying - this PDF attachment issue is absolutely maddening! I've been dealing with PA UC for about 6 months now and this problem comes up constantly. What's really frustrating is that they'll send you these urgent-looking messages and then make it nearly impossible to actually read them on the devices most people use every day. One thing I'd add to all the great library advice here is to maybe screenshot or take photos of the important parts of your documents once you get them open, so you have them saved on your phone for reference later. I started doing this after getting burned by not being able to re-access something I needed while I was out and about. Also, if anyone from PA UC is somehow reading this thread - PLEASE fix your mobile compatibility! It's ridiculous that in 2025 we're all having to hunt down desktop computers just to access basic government services. The number of people in this thread alone shows how widespread this problem is. We're already dealing with the stress of unemployment - we shouldn't have to jump through technical hoops just to read our own benefit information. Thanks to everyone for sharing their solutions and making this less isolating. This community really is a lifeline when dealing with PA UC's technical disasters!

0 coins

That's such a brilliant tip about taking screenshots of the documents once you get them open! I wish I had thought of that earlier. It would definitely save having to make multiple trips to the library or borrow computers every time you need to reference something. And you're absolutely right about how backwards this whole situation is - having to hunt down desktop computers just to access basic unemployment information feels like we've gone back in time 15 years! The fact that this thread has so many people with the exact same problem really shows how widespread the issue is. PA UC definitely needs to prioritize fixing this mobile compatibility disaster. Thanks for the practical screenshot advice - I'll definitely be doing that when I finally get my documents open tomorrow!
