PA UC direct deposit option greyed out - stuck on payment preference screen
I'm totally stuck trying to open my new PA unemployment claim. Got to the payment preference screen and the direct deposit option is completely greyed out/shaded. The debit card option is already selected but I can't click the confirmation box underneath it. There's another box further down that's also shaded so I literally can't click ANYTHING to move forward. Been staring at this screen for 20 minutes and tried refreshing multiple times. Anyone else run into this? Is it a browser issue or something with the UC system? I really don't want a debit card and preferred direct deposit anyway.

•Thanks, I'll try Firefox. Did you have the same exact issue with the payment options being unclickable?

This is a known issue with their system when they're updating payment processor settings. What's happening is that the direct deposit option is temporarily disabled system-wide, but there's a bug that sometimes prevents the confirmation button from working too. You have three options: 1. Try a different browser as suggested 2. Wait 24-48 hours and try again when their system updates complete 3. Continue with the claim and update your payment preferences after your claim is established through the "View and Maintain Account Information" section I had to do option 3 myself when filing in January. Once your claim is approved, you can switch from debit card to direct deposit without any problems.

•Oh that makes sense! I'll try Firefox first but good to know I can change it later. Do you know if there's any delay getting money if I have to start with the debit card and switch later?

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO DELAY YOUR PAYMENTS!!! I had the EXACT same problem in February and called for THREE WEEKS straight - busy signals and disconnects every single time!!! When I finally got through, they told me it was a "known issue" but wouldn't fix it! Had to wait for my Money Network card which took 12 DAYS to arrive, while my bills piled up!!! The PA UC system is BROKEN BY DESIGN to discourage people from collecting!!!!

I had this exact issue last week! Clear your cache and cookies completely, then try using Microsoft Edge browser (worked for me when Chrome and Firefox failed). If that doesn't work, I ended up getting through to someone using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they connected me to an actual UC rep in about 20 minutes after I spent days trying. The rep manually set my payment preference to direct deposit. Check out their demo video: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The issue is definitely on their end - they're having problems with the payment system integration right now.

•I tried Claimyr last week too when I was trying to resolve my open issue. It actually worked but is it really legal? Like I'm paranoid about getting in trouble for not calling the "official" way.

mine did the same thing but then i tried at like 3am and it worked fine lol. less people on the site i guess? anyway i ended up with the stupid card anyway cause my direct deposit info had a typo 🤦♀️

@anxious_person It's completely legal - Claimyr just helps you get through the phone system faster. They don't access your claim or personal information. It's basically just a service that keeps calling for you using their system that can get through the busy signals. You still talk directly to the actual UC representatives yourself. No different than having a friend auto-redial for you.

•Oh ok that makes me feel better. I was worried it was some kind of weird loophole that could get my claim flagged or something!

@OriginalPoster To answer your question about delays: If you start with the debit card and switch to direct deposit later, there shouldn't be much delay. Your first payment will go to the Money Network card (which takes about 7-10 days to arrive by mail), but once you update to direct deposit, all future payments will go directly to your bank account. The important thing is getting your claim established and processed - you can fix the payment method later.

•Thanks for the detailed info. I tried Edge browser this morning and it actually worked! Was able to select direct deposit after all. Now just waiting for my claim to process... hoping there are no open issues.

Just wait until you have to do your weekly certifications!!! The site will probably crash RIGHT when you're submitting!!! Happened to me THREE TIMES and caused my payments to be delayed EVERY TIME!!! The whole system needs to be SCRAPPED and rebuilt!!!!!

•Great, something else to look forward to 😓 Is there a specific day/time that's better for doing the weekly filing?

@OriginalPoster For weekly certifications, early morning (6-8am) or late evening (after 9pm) on Tuesdays or Wednesdays tend to have the least traffic. Sundays and Mondays are the busiest days because that's when most people file. Glad you got your direct deposit working! The system definitely has its quirks but once you learn the patterns it gets easier to navigate.

I had this same exact issue about 3 weeks ago! The greyed out direct deposit option is super frustrating. What worked for me was clearing all my browser data (cache, cookies, everything) and then trying again in incognito/private browsing mode. Sometimes the site gets confused with stored data from previous sessions. Also make sure you don't have any ad blockers running - they can interfere with the form elements loading properly. If none of that works, try accessing the site through a different device entirely (like your phone vs computer). The mobile version sometimes works better for certain screens. Hope this helps!

•Thanks for the detailed troubleshooting steps! I'm definitely going to try the incognito mode trick if I run into this issue again. Good point about ad blockers too - I always forget those can mess with form elements. Did you end up getting direct deposit to work, or did you have to go with the debit card initially?

I ran into this exact same issue about 2 months ago! The greyed out direct deposit option is definitely a known bug in their system. What finally worked for me was using Safari browser (if you're on Mac) or trying the site on my phone instead of desktop. For some reason the mobile version handled the payment selection better. Also, if you're still stuck, try doing it during off-peak hours like really early morning (5-7am) or late at night (after 10pm) when there's less server load. The system seems to glitch more when it's busy. Once I got past that screen, everything else went pretty smoothly. Don't stress too much about starting with the debit card - you can definitely change it to direct deposit later through your account settings once the claim is established!

•Thanks for the mobile tip! I never thought to try it on my phone instead of desktop. That's really smart about the off-peak hours too - makes total sense that the server load would affect how well the forms work. Good to hear that once you get past that payment screen everything else goes smoothly. I was getting worried there would be more roadblocks like this throughout the whole process!

I literally just went through this same nightmare two weeks ago! The greyed out direct deposit option had me pulling my hair out for hours. What finally worked for me was a combination of things: 1) Used Microsoft Edge browser instead of Chrome, 2) Disabled all browser extensions temporarily, and 3) Made sure I was logged out completely, cleared all PA UC cookies specifically (not just general cache), then logged back in fresh. The key thing I learned is that their payment system integration is super buggy when there are any saved form data or cookies from previous sessions. Also pro tip - if you do end up having to start with the debit card, you can switch to direct deposit pretty easily once your claim is approved. Just go to "Update Payment Information" in your dashboard. The switch usually takes effect for your next payment cycle. Don't let this technical glitch stress you out too much - it's definitely on their end, not yours!

•This is such helpful info! I'm dealing with a similar issue right now and was getting so frustrated. The tip about clearing PA UC cookies specifically is really smart - I was just doing a general cache clear. How long did it take for your direct deposit switch to actually go through once you updated it in your dashboard? I'm worried about any delays in payments during the transition.

I just dealt with this exact same issue last month! The greyed out direct deposit option is so frustrating. What worked for me was trying a completely different approach - I used my tablet instead of my computer and accessed the site through the DuckDuckGo browser app. For some reason their payment form loads differently on mobile devices and tablets. Also make sure you're not using any VPN or proxy - that can sometimes interfere with their payment processor verification. If you're still stuck, try waiting until after midnight and before 6am when their system does maintenance updates. I noticed the payment options were more responsive during those hours. And honestly, even if you have to start with the debit card temporarily, it's not the end of the world - I switched to direct deposit about a week after my claim was approved and it was super straightforward. The important thing is just getting your claim submitted so you can start the processing timeline!
