PA UC finally approved but my Relia card expired - check or new card coming?

After waiting FOREVER (like 4 months!), my unemployment claim finally got approved yesterday. I logged into my account and saw all the back payments processed with transaction IDs dated 4/22/2025. The problem is my Relia card expired back in January since I haven't needed it since my last claim in 2023. Does anyone know if they'll automatically send me a new card or will they mail paper checks instead? The total is pretty substantial (around $7,800) so I'm anxious about where this money is going to end up. Has anyone dealt with an expired card situation when back payments finally come through?

They should automatically send you a new Money Network card (they switched from Relia to Money Network last year). Usually takes 7-10 business days after your payments are processed. Check your postal mail carefully since the envelope looks pretty plain. The new cards are sent from a different address than your determination letters.

Thank you!! I've been checking my mailbox obsessively lol. Do you know if the new Money Network cards work the same way as the old Relia ones? I'm just worried since that's a lot of money and I've been struggling since December.

Thanks! It felt like forever though, especially with rent due again next week. Just hoping the card comes quickly now.

You'll get a new Money Network card automatically. PA UC stopped using Relia cards in 2024. However, if your address changed since your last claim, you need to update it IMMEDIATELY through your dashboard or by calling. The system won't know to send the new card to your current address otherwise. If you don't receive the card within 14 days, call the Money Network customer service directly at 888-233-5916. DO NOT call the regular UC number about card issues - they'll just refer you to Money Network anyway.

My address is the same as before, so hopefully that helps. If I don't see anything by May 7th, I'll definitely call that number. Thanks for the tip about not calling the regular UC line!

It's ridiculous how inconsistent the PA UC system is with everything! I got approved last month and still haven't received my card - finally had to call Money Network directly and apparently they never even received the request to issue one. The whole system is broken.

I'm in the same boat waiting on backpay from january. How did you finally get your claim approved? They keep telling me "open issue" but nobody ever calls me for an interview or anything. I've called like 50 times and always get busy signals.

If you're struggling to get through to PA UC, you might want to try Claimyr. I was in a similar situation for weeks and was getting nowhere with the busy signals. Claimyr got me connected to a real agent in about 20 minutes after trying for days on my own. Just go to claimyr.com and you can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent I spoke with was able to clear my open issue on the spot once I explained my situation. Worth it since I was about to lose my mind with the constant busy signals.

One important thing to note - when you get your new Money Network card, you'll need to activate it immediately and set up a new PIN. Even though your payments already show as processed in your UC account, they won't be available to use until you activate the card. Also, if you previously had direct deposit set up with your old Relia card, that setting does NOT transfer automatically. You'll need to log into the Money Network website or app to set up direct deposit to your bank account again.

Oh that's super helpful - I did have direct deposit before and totally would've assumed it carried over. Do you know if the Money Network website is user-friendly? The old Relia site was terrible.

The Money Network site is definitely better than the old Relia portal, but still has some quirks. Make sure you write down your login credentials when you first set them up - there's a waiting period if you get locked out. The mobile app is actually pretty decent for checking balances and transactions. Also set up text alerts for deposits if you can - sometimes the deposits hit before they even show in your UC portal.

I almost forgot to mention - if you're really concerned about timing, you can actually call Money Network directly (888-233-5916) to see if a card has been ordered for you. They can tell you the status and when it was requested by PA UC. Sometimes there's a lag between when your payments are processed and when the card department is notified to send a new card.

Thank you! I'll give them a call tomorrow morning and see what they say. Would definitely put my mind at ease to know it's actually being processed.
