PA UC claim says 'pay type partial check' for all weeks - what does this mean and when will I get paid?
So I've been waiting for what feels like FOREVER for my unemployment claim to get approved. I logged in today and finally saw that my claim status changed to approved (thank goodness!!). But when I looked at the payment details, I noticed it says "pay type partial check" for all the weeks I claimed. I've never seen this before and I'm confused about what it means. Does this mean I'm only getting part of my benefit amount? Also, any idea how long before the money hits my ReliaCard? I already activated my card weeks ago just to be prepared. Just really need this money to come through ASAP since rent is coming up next week.

congrats on getting approved! partial check usually means ur getting less than ur full benefit amount. probably becuz u reported some income for those weeks. did u work part time while claiming?

•Omg yes! I did work a few shifts at my cousin's restaurant each week while waiting. I reported all the hours but totally forgot that would affect things. Does that mean my payment will be smaller? And still wondering when it'll come through...

Pay type partial" check means'you re receiving a reduced UC benefit payment because you reported part-time earnings during your claim weeks. PA UC reduces your weekly benefit amount based on a formula - they'don t deduct dollar for dollar, but approximately 30% of your earnings are disregarded and the rest reduces your benefit. For example, if your weekly benefit is $500 and you earned $200,'they d disregard about $60 of your earnings, meaning'they d deduct $140 from your benefit, resulting in a $360 payment. As for timing, once your claim shows as approved with payment amounts, it typically takes 2-3 business days for funds to appear on your ReliaCard. First payments sometimes take a bit longer. You can check the payment status "under Payment" History in yourdashboard.

•Thank you so much for explaining! That makes way more sense now. I'll keep an eye on my ReliaCard over the next few days. Fingers crossed it comes through before rent is due!

I had same issue last year!!! Partial check just means they paying u less bc of part time work. My money usually hit my card like 2 days after it showed approved status but sometimes was slower. UC system is sooooo confusing lol

Is anyone else having trouble getting through to unemployment on the phone?? I've been trying for 3 DAYS straight with the same issue as OP but mine still shows pending and I'm about to lose my mind!!!! Been calling 300+ times a day with nothing but busy signals. This is insane.

•I was in the same boat last month - called literally 500+ times over a week. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Worth it for me because I needed to get my backpay issue resolved. The agent was able to clear up my partial payment confusion and explained exactly when my deposits would hit.

Be aware that "pay type partial check" can sometimes indicate other issues besides part-time work. In some cases, it could mean: 1. You have deductions for overpayment recovery 2. Child support withholding 3. Federal tax withholding (if you opted for that) 4. Pension deductions If your partial payment amount seems off based on what you reported for part-time work, you might want to check if any of these apply. As for payment timing, in 2025 the PA UC system has been fairly consistent with 2-3 business days for ReliaCard deposits after approval, but holiday weekends can delay things by an extra day or two.

•I did choose to have taxes withheld when I filed! So that could be part of it too. And I definitely don't have any overpayments or child support. Good to know about the timing - today's Tuesday so hopefully by Thursday or Friday I'll see something on my card.

One important thing to note - check your "Payment History" section carefully. Sometimes even after approval, the first payment can be delayed if there's a "waiting week" applied to your claim. In Pennsylvania, the waiting week policy has changed several times, but as of 2025, the first eligible week is often unpaid. So if you claimed for four weeks and all show "pay type partial check," you might receive payment for only three of those weeks initially. Also make sure all your work search activities were properly logged for each week, as missing work search activities can hold up payment even after approval.

•Great point about the waiting week! I just double-checked and I do see my first week is marked as "waiting week" with $0. The other weeks show different amounts based on what I earned at my cousin's restaurant each week. And yes, I did all my work search activities - made sure to do at least 5 each week even though they only require 3. Thanks for the helpful info!

•Just checked - yes! The pay date shows as tomorrow! So hopefully that means the money will be on my card by Friday? This is my first time dealing with unemployment so still learning how it all works.

If your pay date is listed as tomorrow, you should see funds on your ReliaCard within 1-2 business days after that date. ReliaCard deposits usually happen very early in the morning, so check first thing. One last tip - make sure you've downloaded the ReliaCard mobile app if you haven't already. It will give you instant notifications when deposits hit your card, which is much more reliable than just checking your balance periodically. The app also lets you transfer funds to your regular bank account if needed.
