Status changed from 'adjudication' to 'approved' but payments still pending - am I good?
Hey everyone - I'm a bit confused about my ESD status. I filed my initial claim about 2 weeks ago and last week my status showed as "adjudication in process" (which had me worried). But when I logged in last night to file my weekly claim, I noticed my status had changed to "approved" and it's showing a weekly benefit amount! All my payments are still listed as "pending" though. Does this status change mean I'm actually approved and will get paid for this week? Or is there still something else that needs to happen before the money comes through? This is my first time on unemployment and I've got rent coming up soon. Thanks for any help!

The "approved" status is definitely good news! It means your claim itself has been approved and you've passed the adjudication process. The "pending" payments are normal - ESD typically takes 2-3 business days to process payments after you file your weekly claim. As long as you correctly completed your weekly claim with job search activities, you should see the payment status change to "paid" within a few days.

•Thank you! That's such a relief. So I don't need to call them or do anything else at this point? Just wait for the payment status to update?

•6 weeks?! I was freaking out after just one week. Glad I got through faster. Thanks for the reassurance!

BEWARE - I had the same thing happen in January and thought I was approved but then got ANOTHER adjudication flag a week later!!! The ESD system is seriously broken, I swear they do this on purpose to make people give up. Make sure you keep filing every week even if you don't get paid because if you miss one you'll have to restart the WHOLE PROCESS!!!! also did you do your 3 job search activities and log them??? they'll deny you if you don't!!

•Oh no, now I'm worried again. Yes, I did my 3 job search activities and recorded them. Is there any way to know for sure if everything is actually approved? Should I try calling them?

This is actually a common confusion point with ESD's system. Let me clarify what's happening: 1. "Approved" status means your claim has been accepted and you're eligible for benefits. 2. "Pending" payments mean your weekly claim is being processed but hasn't been paid yet. If you've done your job search activities and reported them correctly, you should see the pending payments change to paid within 3-5 business days. The first payment often takes a bit longer than subsequent ones. I wouldn't worry about another adjudication popping up unless you have some unique circumstances (like working for multiple employers, being fired rather than laid off, etc.). Most people with straightforward claims don't face multiple adjudications. If your payments don't switch from pending to paid within 5 business days, that's when you might want to contact ESD.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! My situation is pretty straightforward - I was laid off due to department restructuring, and I have all the documentation. I'll wait the 3-5 days and see what happens before I start worrying again.

•Yes, I did the ID.me verification when I first applied. It was honestly a bit confusing but I got through it on the second try. Are you having trouble with the video call part?

If you need to contact ESD about your claim status but can't get through on the phones (which is super common), I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation last month - approved but payments stuck in pending for over a week. I tried calling for days with no luck, then used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. There's a video demo of how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent was able to see there was a small flag on my account that was holding up payment that I couldn't see on my end. Got it resolved immediately.

•Thanks for the tip! I'm going to give it a few days first to see if the payments process normally, but if I run into issues I'll definitely check out that service. The ESD phone lines are impossible!

•Is that service legit? Seems sketchy to use a third party when dealing with unemployment... no offense just being cautious

•Totally get the caution. It's just a call-back service that helps you skip the hold queue. They don't access your account or anything. But yeah, try the regular ESD line first if you have the patience!

•Yes! Just wanted to update everyone - the payment switched from pending to paid yesterday and I just checked my bank account and the money is there! Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance.

•Great news! The first payment is always the most stressful. It should be smoother sailing from here as long as you keep up with your weekly claims and job search activities.
