ESD claim shows 'active' with 'processing web' weekly status - is this approval or normal status?
I'm confused about my unemployment claim status. When I log into my ESD account, it shows my claim as 'active' and my weekly claim says 'processing web.' Does this mean my claim is already approved and I'll be getting benefits soon? Or is this just the standard status it shows for everyone before actual approval? I submitted everything last Friday and I'm not sure if I need to keep calling them or if I should just wait. This is my first time filing for unemployment after being laid off from my accounting job last month.

This is actually normal and doesn't necessarily mean full approval yet. 'Active' just means your claim has been received and is in the system, while 'processing web' indicates your weekly claim was submitted and is being processed. Your overall claim could still be under review even with these statuses showing. The system will update to 'paid' once approved and processed.

•Oh I see! So I shouldn't assume I'm approved yet? How long does it usually take to go from 'processing web' to finding out if I'm approved or not?

I panicked about the same thing when I first filed lol. The confusion is real!! Mine said active/processing for 2 whole weeks before suddenly switching to 'paid' status. So dont worry to much yet but keep checking daily

•Thanks, that's reassuring! I keep checking like 5 times a day hoping to see a change. Did you have to call them at all during those 2 weeks or did it just change automatically?

To add to what others are saying, 'active' means your claim exists in the system, but you might still need to go through identity verification or adjudication if there are any issues with your claim. 'Processing web' just confirms your weekly claim was received through their web system rather than by phone. If it's only been since Friday, I'd give it at least 7-10 business days before getting concerned. The system updates overnight, so check each morning. If after 2 weeks you're still seeing the same status, that might indicate there's an issue that requires contacting ESD directly.

•Do they send you an email when it changes to paid or do you just have to keep checking the ESD website??? I'm in the same boat right now

IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH ESD THE WORD "ACTIVE" MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!! Had an "active" claim for 3 MONTHS while stuck in ID verification hell. They keep you in limbo forever without telling you anything is wrong! Then suddenly demand 20 forms of ID. The whole system is designed to deny people benefits!!!

•While I understand your frustration, this isn't always the case. ID verification issues do happen, but most claims process normally. OP's situation of just filing last Friday is still well within normal processing times.

When I filed last year, my claim was stuck at that exact status for almost 3 weeks with no movement. Turns out my former employer was contesting my claim, but ESD never notified me about it. I finally got through to an agent using Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me bypass the hold queues. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was happening and what I needed to submit to resolve it. They have a quick video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Definitely worth considering if your status doesn't change in the next week or so.

•Thanks for the tip. I might try that if things don't move forward soon. Did you have to provide any additional documentation after speaking with the agent?

just want to add that i had the same thing happen in january. 'active' and 'processing web' for like 9 days then suddenly it changed to 'paid' without any notification. checked my bank account the next day and money was there. so probably just need to wait a bit longer

•That's good to hear! I'm getting nervous because rent is due next week, but sounds like I just need to be patient for a few more days.

One more thing to consider - if this is your very first claim, ESD often takes longer to process it compared to subsequent weekly claims. The first payment can take 2-3 weeks even without any issues, while later weekly claims may process in just 2-3 days once everything is established. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims every week, even while waiting for the first one to process.

•Thanks, I wasn't aware of that! So I should file another weekly claim this Sunday even though the first one is still processing? I was worried that might mess something up.

Yes, absolutely continue filing your weekly claims on time, every week, even if prior weeks are still processing. Each week stands alone, and missing a week can cause gaps in your benefits. As for notification, ESD should send an alert to your preferred contact method (email or text) when payment is processed, but the system isn't always reliable for notifications. The most reliable method is checking your account directly.

•Thx for confirming about the notifications! I was sitting here obsessively checking my email every 5 min hoping for an update lol

Update: You were all right! My status finally changed to 'paid' this morning - took exactly 8 business days from when I first filed. Thanks everyone for helping me understand the process and keeping me from panicking unnecessarily!

That's such great news! Thanks for coming back to update us - it really helps other people in similar situations to see how things worked out. 8 business days is actually pretty typical for first-time claims. Glad you didn't have to deal with any of the horror stories some people go through. Enjoy having that stress off your shoulders!

•This is so helpful to see! I'm in week 6 of waiting and was starting to lose hope, but your update gives me confidence that the system does eventually work. Really appreciate you taking the time to post an update - most people just disappear once their issue is resolved!

I'm so glad to see this success story! I just filed my claim yesterday and seeing your update gives me hope that the process actually works. I was getting really anxious reading some of the horror stories online, but your timeline of 8 business days seems totally reasonable. Thanks for taking the time to update everyone - it really helps those of us who are new to this whole process!

•Welcome to the unemployment journey! I just went through this exact same anxiety last month when I filed my first claim. The waiting period is definitely nerve-wracking, especially when you're dealing with bills and uncertainty. Based on what I've learned from this community and my own experience, 8 business days seems to be pretty standard for first-time claims. Just make sure to keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the first one to process - that was something I almost missed! This community has been super helpful for getting real answers instead of just the confusing official ESD website info.

Just wanted to chime in as someone who went through this exact same confusion a few months ago! The terminology ESD uses is definitely not intuitive. I remember staring at my screen wondering if "active" meant I was good to go or if it was just step one of a million-step process. From my experience, you're right to be cautious about assuming approval. I had "active" status for about 10 days before it switched to "paid." The key thing I learned is that "processing web" just confirms they received your weekly claim submission - it doesn't say anything about whether your overall eligibility has been determined yet. One tip: if you're checking multiple times a day (totally understandable!), try to check in the early morning. The system seems to update overnight, so if there's going to be a status change, it usually shows up by around 6-7 AM. Saved me from refreshing the page obsessively throughout the day! Hang in there - the waiting is the worst part, but it sounds like you submitted everything correctly. Keep filing those weekly claims on schedule and hopefully you'll see that "paid" status soon!
