ESD adjudication suddenly disappeared after filing weekly claim - what does this mean?

I'm totally new to the unemployment system and feeling lost. I applied for UI benefits on February 18th, 2025 after getting laid off from my retail management position. The very next day (Feb 19th), my ESD account showed "adjudication in progress" which freaked me out a little. I submitted my first weekly claim this past Sunday (Feb 24th) as instructed. Here's where I'm confused - I checked my account today (Feb 26th) and the "adjudication in progress" notice has completely VANISHED. No new messages, no updates, nothing explaining what's happening. The claim status page looks different but doesn't show approval or denial. Does this disappearing adjudication message mean my claim was approved? Denied? Still pending? I have bills coming due next week and I'm starting to panic. Any insights from people who've been through this before would be so appreciated!

same thing happened 2 me last month! the adjudication message disappeared after my 2nd weekly claim. turned out they approved it! got paid 2 days later. check ur payment history tab, might show pending payment there before u get the official notice

Thanks for the reply! I just checked my payment history tab and there's nothing there yet. No pending payments showing up. Did your claim status change to something else before you got paid, or did it just stay blank like mine?

The disappearance of the adjudication notice often means they've completed their review of your claim, which is generally good news. However, ESD's system doesn't always update status messages in real-time. A few possibilities: 1. Your claim has been approved and you'll see a payment pending within 48-72 hours 2. They needed additional information but haven't sent the request yet 3. System glitch (happens occasionally) I recommend checking your Notices tab for any new documents, and continue filing your weekly claims on time regardless. The adjudication process typically takes 2-3 weeks for straightforward claims, so your timeline is actually pretty quick compared to many others.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I checked my Notices tab and there's nothing new there either. I'll keep filing my weekly claims and hopefully see something update soon. Do you think I should try calling them or just wait it out at this point?

when i filed back in october the adjudication thing disappeared and then nothing happened for like a week and then BOOM! money in my account. ESD is weird like that. they dont really tell u whats happening half the time lol

This EXACT thing happened to me and it was TERRIBLE!!!! The adjudication disappeared and then I got a DENIAL letter two weeks later saying I didn't qualify because I supposedly quit my job (which was a LIE, I was laid off). I had to file an appeal and it took FOREVER to resolve and I almost got evicted waiting!!!! CALL THEM IMMEDIATELY!!!! Don't just assume it's approved like these other people are saying!!!!

Oh no, that sounds awful! I'm definitely worried now. I have documentation from my employer confirming it was a layoff, but I should probably try to get through to an agent to confirm everything's on track. Thanks for the warning!

I'm also new to this whole unemployment thing (got laid off in January) and had a similar experience with the adjudication notice. In my case, it disappeared after about 10 days and then I got an approval notice 3 days later. But I've heard from my former coworker that hers took almost a month to resolve. The system is super inconsistent!

The disappearing adjudication status could mean several things: 1. Your claim has been processed and is now moving to the next stage (potentially approval) 2. The adjudicator completed their review and is waiting for another department to continue processing 3. There was a system update that changed how statuses display The fact that it vanished after you filed your weekly claim is actually a positive sign. When claims are flagged for serious issues, the adjudication notice usually persists much longer. I strongly recommend calling ESD directly to check your status. The challenge is getting through their phone system - many claimants have success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an ESD agent quickly rather than spending hours on hold. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Whatever you do, don't stop filing your weekly claims while you wait for clarification.

Thank you for the detailed breakdown! I've been trying to call ESD all morning with no luck - just busy signals or being on hold forever. I'll check out that Claimyr service you mentioned. At this point, I just need to talk to a real person who can tell me what's happening with my claim!

btw did u do the job search activities? u gotta do 3 every week or they can deny u

Yes! I've been keeping track of all my job search activities in a spreadsheet. I applied to 5 positions last week and made sure to log all the details when I submitted my weekly claim. Thanks for the reminder though - that's definitely important!

I've been on unemployment twice in the past few years, and the system has all these weird quirks. The adjudication message disappearing usually means they've reviewed your case and made a determination - most often approval if there are no obvious issues with your claim. Each case is different though! My first time was super smooth, but my second claim had all sorts of weird status changes that gave me anxiety. Yet they both ended up approved. One important tip: check your spam/junk email folder daily! Sometimes ESD emails get filtered there, especially the payment notifications. I missed an important request for additional information because it went to spam, and it delayed my benefits by two weeks.

omg yes the spam folder thing!!! happened to me 2!! i missed a questionnaire they sent and almost got disqualified bcuz of it

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know what happened! I finally got through to ESD this morning using that Claimyr service (totally worth it after trying for days on my own). The agent confirmed my claim was approved! The adjudication finished on Monday, but there was a processing delay in updating my online account. She said I should see my first payment by Friday, and the formal approval notice should arrive in my ESD secure inbox within 24 hours. Thanks to everyone who offered advice and shared their experiences! What a relief to finally know what's going on.

Great news! This is pretty typical of ESD - their internal systems process claims faster than their customer-facing portals update. Glad you got confirmation and will be receiving your benefits soon. Remember to keep doing those job search activities and filing weekly claims on time!

So happy for you!!! What a relief!! Make sure you print out or screenshot the approval when it comes through just in case they try to say later there was a mistake (happened to my cousin)!!!

Congrats on getting approved! This gives me hope as someone who's been dealing with ESD confusion myself. Quick question - when you used Claimyr, how long did it take them to connect you with an actual ESD agent? I've been trying to get through for weeks and I'm at my wit's end with the phone system. Also, did they charge you for the service or is it free?

I used Claimyr yesterday and it was honestly a lifesaver! It took about 45 minutes from when I submitted my request to when they connected me with an ESD agent. Way better than the hours I spent on hold trying to call directly. They do charge a fee - I think it was around $20, but totally worth it for the peace of mind and actually getting through to someone who could help. The agent was super helpful and cleared up all my confusion about the claim status. Hope this helps!

I'm in almost the exact same situation! Filed my initial claim on February 22nd and had the adjudication notice appear right away. Filed my first weekly claim on Sunday too, and just like you, the adjudication status disappeared yesterday with no explanation. Reading through everyone's responses here is both reassuring and nerve-wracking - seems like it could go either way! I'm going to try calling them today but based on what others are saying, I might need to use that Claimyr service to actually get through. @e1d626d161e2 Thanks for posting this - it's so helpful to know I'm not the only one dealing with this confusing system. Please keep us updated on what happens with your payment!

@97b4151a8a18 You're definitely not alone in this! The timing is so similar to what I went through - it's like ESD has this pattern where the adjudication notice disappears right after you file your first weekly claim. From what I learned talking to the agent, they actually finish reviewing most straightforward layoff claims pretty quickly, but their system is just terrible at communicating what's happening to us claimants. Definitely try Claimyr if you can't get through by calling directly - it saved me so much stress and time. I'll update everyone once I actually receive my payment on Friday (fingers crossed!). Good luck with your claim!

As someone who went through this exact scenario about 6 months ago, I can tell you that the disappearing adjudication notice is usually a good sign! In my case, it meant they had finished reviewing my claim and approved it, but there's always that lag time between their internal decision and when it shows up in your account. One thing I learned is that ESD processes claims in batches, so even though your adjudication might be complete, payments don't always get released immediately. Mine took about 4-5 business days after the notice disappeared to actually see money in my account. The anxiety is totally understandable though - I was checking my account multiple times a day! Just keep filing those weekly claims no matter what, because if there are any issues, stopping your weekly filings can create bigger problems down the road.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing. The batch processing explanation makes a lot of sense - that would explain why there's such a delay between the system making a decision and us actually seeing any updates. I'm definitely going to keep filing my weekly claims religiously no matter what happens. Did you get any kind of notification when your payment was actually processed, or did the money just show up in your account one day?

I just went through this exact same thing last month! Filed my claim in mid-January, had the dreaded adjudication notice pop up immediately, then it vanished after my second weekly claim. I was panicking just like you are now. Turns out it was approved and I got my first payment about a week after the notice disappeared. The key thing I learned is that ESD's online system is basically held together with duct tape - their internal processing moves way faster than what we see on our end. A few tips that helped me through the waiting: - Screenshot everything in your account regularly (claim details, weekly claim confirmations, etc.) - Set up direct deposit if you haven't already - it's faster than waiting for a debit card - Keep a detailed log of your job search activities just in case they ask later The waiting is absolutely brutal when you have bills due, but from everything I've seen in this community, disappearing adjudication after filing weekly claims is usually good news. Hang in there!

This is so reassuring to hear! I'm definitely in that panic mode right now with bills coming due next week. Your tip about screenshotting everything is really smart - I wish I had thought of that earlier. I do have direct deposit set up already, so hopefully that will speed things up once payments start processing. It's crazy how much stress this whole system puts people through when we're already dealing with job loss. Thanks for the encouragement - it really helps to know others have been through this exact situation and came out okay on the other side!
