ESD UI claim showing multiple adjudications, disqualification, but no appeal option - what does this mean?
I'm completely lost with my unemployment claim status right now. When I log into my ESD account, I'm seeing a total mess that I can't make sense of: - 3 different issues are marked as 'in adjudication' - 1 issue says 'waiting for information' - My claim shows I'm 'disqualified' - But strangely, the decision status section where I should be able to appeal is completely blank I've been checking daily for two weeks and nothing changes. I need this money to pay rent next month and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone seen this kind of confusing status before? I don't understand if I should be appealing something, providing information, or just waiting? The instructions on the ESD site don't address this weird combination of statuses.

•Thanks - I've tried calling about 20 times over the last week but can't get through. Just constant busy signals or it hangs up on me after the automated messages. Is there any trick to getting a human on the phone?

This is actually a common situation when multiple issues are being processed simultaneously. Here's what's likely happening: 1. The 3 adjudication issues are probably separate potential disqualification reasons they're reviewing 2. The 'waiting for information' means ESD needs something from you or an employer 3. The disqualification is likely for one already-decided issue 4. The blank appeal section often means the decision letter hasn't been fully processed in the system yet Most importantly, you need to check your ESD secure message center and postal mail for any letters requiring response. The fact that something is 'waiting for information' means you might have missed a questionnaire or document request that's delaying everything else.

•I just checked my secure messages again and don't see anything requesting information. The last message was just confirming I filed my weekly claim. Should I upload documents anyway even if they haven't asked for anything specific?

If ur disqualified then u need to appeal ASAP!! You only get like 30 days from when they send the disqual letter. If the website isnt showing the appeal option thats a serious problem. When I got disqualified last year there was a big APPEAL button right there on my decisions page.

•You're right about the appeal deadline, but if the decision status section is blank, it likely means the determination letter is still being processed. The system often shows the disqualification before it finalizes and sends the official determination that starts the 30-day appeal clock. That's why checking both regular mail and the ESD message center is crucial.

I had EXACTLY this issue last month! The system is totally broken. What happened in my case was that they disqualified me for one issue but were still investigating others, and somehow that put my account in a weird limbo state where the appeal option didn't show up. I wasted two weeks trying to figure it out on my own.

•That sounds like what's happening to me! How did you finally resolve it? Did you have to keep calling?

Yeah, I had to talk to an actual claims specialist. The regular ESD people couldn't help. I spent 3 days hitting redial non-stop and it was miserable. But then I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent could see all my issues and explained that one decision letter was sent but two others were still pending, and fixed the website so I could see the appeal option. Saved me from missing my appeal deadline!

•Is that service legitimate? Seems sketchy that you'd need to pay to talk to a government agency you're entitled to contact for free. The ESD phone system is terrible but not THAT bad...

It's totally legitimate. I was skeptical too but desperate after 3 days of calling. They don't replace ESD - they just connect you through the phone system. I still talked directly to an ESD agent, just didn't have to spend days redialing. With my rent due, it was worth it to me.

•Thanks for sharing this. I might try it if I can't get through tomorrow. I'm getting really anxious about missing some deadline I don't even know about while these issues are sitting there.

This sounds like a classic case of what's called "cascading adjudication" at ESD. When multiple issues are being adjudicated simultaneously, the system doesn't always display the decision status correctly. Important steps to take right now: 1. Continue filing your weekly claims even while disqualified 2. Check your physical mail DAILY (some notices only come via USPS) 3. Call the ESD office and specifically ask for a Tier 2 specialist 4. Search your ESD account for any questionnaires hiding in different sections 5. If you received ANY determination letters, note the exact date (this starts your appeal clock) Also check if you have any "Able and Available" issues - those can cause this exact pattern and are often resolved faster than other types of adjudication.

•This is really helpful - thank you! One of the adjudication issues does say "Able and Available" but I don't understand why. I've been available for work and doing my job searches each week. I'll definitely keep filing my weekly claims though.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO CONFUSE YOU ON PURPOSE!!! They make it impossible to understand so you miss deadlines and they don't have to pay you. I had 5 different issues on my claim last year and every ESD person told me something different. They're trained to give you the runaround.

•While ESD certainly has systemic issues, what OP is experiencing is more likely a technical issue in the benefits system rather than an intentional barrier. Most claim specialists genuinely try to help, but they're limited by the aging computer systems that don't always display information correctly.

Update: I finally got through to ESD this morning after trying for hours! The agent explained that the system glitched because I had multiple issues being processed at once. The disqualification was for a job separation issue, but I can't see the appeal option because the decision letter was just sent yesterday and hasn't updated in the system yet. The other adjudications are for separate weeks where I had reported some part-time hours. She said to watch my mail for the determination letter, which will have appeal instructions. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions!

•Great news that you got through! When you receive that determination letter, make sure to file your appeal within the deadline (typically 30 days from the date on the letter). Include any supporting documents that address the separation issue. And definitely keep filing your weekly claims during the entire appeal process - if you win the appeal, you'll only get paid for weeks you properly claimed.
