ESD weekly claim showing 'disqualified' but no decision to appeal - what's going on?
I'm so confused right now. I've been filing my weekly claims as usual, but when I checked my latest claim status, it shows 'disqualified' next to the payment status. Normally when this happens, there should be something in the 'Decision' tab that I can appeal, but there's absolutely nothing there. I've also checked my physical mail and the eServices message center - no letters, no notifications, nothing explaining why I'm suddenly disqualified. It's been 4 days now and I'm starting to panic because I have rent due next week. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this some kind of ESD glitch? Should I keep filing my weekly claims while this is going on? I really need this figured out ASAP and can't get through on the phones.

This happened to me back in January. It's actually a system lag - the 'disqualified' status sometimes shows up before the actual decision letter or notification gets loaded into the system. In my case, the decision showed up in eServices about 5 days after the status changed, and I got the physical letter about 3 days after that. Definitely keep filing your weekly claims while you wait! If you stop filing, you'll lose eligibility for those weeks even if you successfully appeal the disqualification later.

•Thank you for the information! That gives me some hope. Did you end up having to appeal your disqualification? I'm wondering if I should start preparing documents just in case.

THE SAME EXACT THING IS HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW!!!! Been on unemployment since February after layoffs at my company, and suddenly last week's claim says "disqualified" with ZERO explanation. Called ESD 14 TIMES yesterday and either got hung up on or stuck on hold until the system kicked me off. This is ridiculous - they can't just cut people off without explanation!! How are we supposed to appeal something when we don't even know what we're appealing?? The whole system is designed to make us give up!!!

Based on what you're describing, this is likely one of three things: 1. System lag between status updates and decision notifications (most common) 2. An auto-disqualification triggered by something in your weekly claim (like reporting work without proper details) 3. A batch review flag that needs manual review by an adjudicator You should: - Keep filing weekly claims without interruption - Check both eServices AND physical mail daily (sometimes notifications only come one way) - Call ESD first thing in the morning (7:30am) when wait times are shortest - Document everything, including screenshots of your claim status If you don't see anything in the Decision tab within 7 business days, you should file a request for information through your eServices account.

•This is really helpful, thank you. I think #2 might be what happened because I did pick up a small one-day gig last week and reported it. I didn't think that would disqualify me since I reported it correctly, but maybe that triggered something. I'll keep trying to call ESD to get clarification.

When I had this happen last year it turned out I had answered one of the weekly questions wrong. The one about being able and available for work - I said NO because I was sick that week (thought I was being honest!) but apparently you're supposed to say YES unless you're permanently unable to work. My disqualification showed up before the letter explained why. Just check if you might have answered something differently this time?

•This! The exact same thing happened to me. So many people get tripped up on that question. The able and available question is asking if you're generally able to work, not if you happened to be sick for a few days.

If you're getting the "disqualified" status without any explanation, you really need to speak with an actual ESD agent. After struggling with this exact issue for weeks, I finally got through using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that helps you get through to ESD without waiting on hold forever. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 When I finally spoke to someone, they explained that my disqualification was due to a system flag that needed manual review - there was actually nothing wrong with my claim, but I never would have known that without talking to a real person. Got it resolved in one call once I actually reached someone.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of this service before. At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything that might help me get through to a real person. I'll check it out!

•Yep, happened to me too. The ESD systems run these massive batches over weekends sometimes and things get out of sync. Keep filing those claims!

Quick update on this issue: I'm seeing several similar reports this week. It appears there may be a system-wide delay in updating the Decision tab after disqualification statuses are applied. Important: If you reported ANY work during the week you were disqualified, carefully check if you provided: - Exact hours worked each day - Complete employer information - Correct gross earnings (before taxes) Many claimants are being auto-disqualified right now if the work details section is incomplete. You can often get this quickly resolved by calling, but as others have mentioned, reaching an agent is the challenge.

•Update from my end: I FINALLY got through to ESD this morning after calling right when they opened. You were right - it was because I did that one-day gig. Since I'm normally a full-time employee, I entered the wrong employer type for the gig (I put it as regular employment instead of self-employment). The agent fixed it immediately and my payment is being processed now! Thanks everyone for the help!

Glad to see you got it resolved @Charlie Yang! This is such a common issue and your experience highlights why it's so important to categorize work correctly when reporting. For anyone else dealing with this - if you did ANY type of gig work, contract work, or freelance work during your claim week, make sure you're selecting the right employer type. The system treats regular W-2 employment very differently from 1099/contractor work, and getting that wrong can trigger an automatic disqualification flag. Also want to echo what others said about calling right at 7:30am - that really is the sweet spot for getting through to an actual person at ESD.

•This is really valuable information! I'm new to the unemployment system and had no idea there was such a difference between W-2 and 1099 work when reporting. It seems like the ESD system is pretty strict about these classifications. I'm wondering - is there anywhere on the ESD website that clearly explains these different employer types? It would be helpful to have a reference guide so people don't accidentally trigger these auto-disqualifications in the first place.
