Why does ESD say 'disqualified' on my latest weekly claim?
I just checked my ESD account and my last weekly claim shows 'disqualified' but they didn't give me any reason why! I've been filing normally for 6 weeks and getting paid, then suddenly this week shows disqualified. Nothing changed with my work search activities - still doing 3 per week and recording them properly. Haven't received any notices or messages from ESD explaining this. Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I need to call them or will they eventually tell me why I was disqualified? Really stressing about this since I'm counting on that money for rent next week.

Did you check your 'Notices/Letters' section in eServices? ESD usually sends a determination letter explaining the disqualification reason. Most common reasons are either not meeting job search requirements, failing to report earnings, or answering a question differently than previous weeks. I'd definitely try to call them ASAP - disqualification issues don't typically resolve themselves without you taking action.

•Thanks for responding! I looked in the Notices section and don't see anything new. The weird thing is I answered everything exactly the same as previous weeks. Do you know what number is best to call? I've tried the main line before and it's always busy.

OMG the SAME THING just happened to me!! My claim from last week suddenly says disqualified too and I have NO IDEA WHY!!! Been getting benefits for 3 months without any issues until now. This is so frustrating. Did you work at all last week? I picked up one shift at my old job but reported those hours exactly like they tell you to.

•No, I didn't work at all last week. That's why it's so confusing. Nothing changed from the previous weeks when I got paid. Did you get any notification or explanation in your account?

check if u answered anything different on ur weekly claim. sometimes even a tiny mistake can trigger a disqualification. i got disqualified once cause i accidentally clicked YES on the question about being out of my job search area lol

•I triple-checked and I'm almost certain I answered everything the same way I always do. I've been really careful with those questions because I know one wrong answer can mess things up.

This happened to me in February. The system flagged my claim because I entered my job search activities in a slightly different format than usual (I used an abbreviation for the company name). When I finally got through to an agent, they fixed it in less than 5 minutes. The problem is actually GETTING through to someone at ESD. I actually discovered a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an ESD agent without waiting for hours. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Much better than spending your whole day hitting redial! Once I got through, the agent was able to immediately see why my claim was disqualified and override it.

•Thank you! I'll check out that service. Did you have to provide any documentation when you spoke with the agent? I'm trying to prepare everything I might need before calling.

The 'disqualified' status typically means there's been a specific issue identified with your claim that needs to be addressed. Unlike 'pending,' which can sometimes resolve on its own, disqualification requires action. Common reasons for disqualification include: 1. Answering a weekly claim question differently than in previous weeks 2. System flagging a potential availability issue 3. Employer contesting your claim or reporting different information 4. Missing work search activities or entering them incorrectly 5. Identity verification issues Check your Notices/Letters section first, but also look at your weekly claim details - there might be indicators there about which question triggered the issue. If you can't find anything, you absolutely need to contact ESD directly. The disqualification won't reverse automatically without you addressing the specific concern they have.

•Do you know if working one shift would cause a disqualification? I reported my earnings exactly how they tell you to!

the esd system is GARBAGE!!! i got disqualified 3 times during my claim for absolutely NO REASON and had to spend WEEKS trying to get it fixed each time. they just randomly flag peoples accounts and then make it impossible to talk to anyone. its all designed to discourage people from collecting benefits we're entitled to!!!

•Right?! The same thing happened to my brother. He got disqualified because the system somehow didn't record his work search activities even though he entered them. Took him over a month to get it sorted out.

@original poster - Working part-time shouldn't cause a disqualification if you reported the earnings correctly. It would just reduce your benefit amount for that week. The most common reason for sudden disqualification in my experience (I've been through this twice) is inconsistent answers to the weekly questions. Check these specific questions carefully: - Were you able and available for work? (Saying 'no' = disqualified) - Did you refuse any job offers? (Saying 'yes' = potential disqualification) - Were you actively seeking work? (Saying 'no' = disqualified) - Did you work during the week claimed? (Answering differently than your reported job search might flag it) You can see your previous answers by looking at your past weekly claims in eServices.

•I just double-checked all my answers and they're consistent with previous weeks. I always answer 'yes' to able and available, 'yes' to actively seeking work, and 'no' to refusing work. I'm guessing there must be some kind of system error or something wrong with my job search activities, even though I did them correctly.

I just checked with my friend who works as a job counselor, and she said there's been a wave of these mysterious disqualifications lately. ESD apparently updated their system in March 2025 and it's been flagging legitimate claims for review. Most people who call in are getting it resolved pretty quickly once they reach someone.

•That makes so much sense! I bet that's exactly what happened to me and the original poster. Typical government systems failing after an "upgrade" 🙄

UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD this morning (used the Claimyr service that was recommended here - totally worth it). Turns out their system flagged my claim because I used a different device to file last week and it triggered some kind of security review. The agent removed the disqualification and said my payment should process in 24-48 hours. She also added notes to my account so it shouldn't happen again. Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions!

•That's great news! This is actually a common issue that many people don't realize - filing from different devices or even different browsers can sometimes trigger security protocols. Glad you got it resolved quickly.
