Sudden ESD disqualification with no explanation - weekly claim rejected

I'm completely baffled. Just checked my ESD account this morning and saw that my weekly claim from last week was disqualified, but there's absolutely NO explanation why! Nothing in my messages, no emails, nothing under the 'issues and decisions' tab. Just says 'disqualified' next to the payment status. I haven't changed anything about my work search activities (still doing 3 per week and documenting everything), my income situation is exactly the same, and I answered all the weekly questions the same as I always do. Has anyone else experienced this random disqualification without any explanation? I'm worried I did something wrong without realizing it. Rent is due next week and I was counting on this payment. What should I do?

omg this EXACT thing happened to me last month!!! i got disqualified for 2 weeks straight with zero explanation. turns out there was a 'verification issue' that never showed up in my account. ESD is the WORST at communicating problems!!!

Did you ever figure out what the verification issue was? And how did you resolve it? I'm starting to panic a little...

This is likely due to one of three things: 1) You accidentally answered a question differently than usual (especially the availability for work question), 2) Your claim hit the one-year mark and needs to be renewed, or 3) There's an identity verification issue in the system. Check your spam folder first for any ESD communications, then log in and look under both the \

Thanks for these suggestions. I triple-checked my answers and I'm pretty sure I answered everything correctly. My claim is only 4 months old so it's not the renewal issue. I'll check my spam folder and look in both sections you mentioned. Hopefully something turns up!

Lol welcome to the ESD nightmare. They just randomly decide to mess with people's money and expect us to figure out why. Had this happen twice during my claim. Both times I had to spend days trying to reach someone.

It really does feel like that sometimes. Did you eventually get it resolved? What was the reason in your case?

1st time was because my previous employer contested something (even though I was laid off??). 2nd time was because they needed more identity documents but never bothered to tell me. Both times I got backpay after it was fixed but had to borrow $ from family to make rent. System is broken.

Sometimes their system flags accounts for random reviews. If you keep filing your weekly claims correctly, it might resolve itself next week. That's what happened with me last year - random disqualification one week, then back to normal the next with no explanation.

That's actually somewhat reassuring. I'll definitely keep filing correctly and hope it resolves. Did you ever get paid for that disqualified week?

Nope, never got paid for that one week. Just chalked it up as a loss and moved on. Not worth the headache of fighting it for one week's payment, but if it continues for you, definitely keep pushing for answers!

You absolutely need to call ESD directly to resolve this. Something similar happened to me and it turned out there was an employer protest that didn't show up in my online account. I wasted two weeks trying to figure it out online when a 10-minute phone conversation fixed everything. I had trouble getting through on the regular line, but I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that gets you connected to an ESD agent without the hours of waiting. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. It's the only way I've been able to actually reach anyone at ESD when I have issues that need immediate attention.

did u work any hours that week? sometimes if u report even a tiny bit of income it can mess things up if the system gets confused about whether ur still eliglbe. happened to my roomate

No, I didn't work any hours or report any income for that week. I've been consistently unemployed since my layoff. That's what makes this so confusing!

This is a fairly common issue that has several potential causes. First, verify if you're entering the correct SSN when filing weekly claims - a simple typo can cause this. Second, check if you recently changed banks or updated direct deposit info, as that can trigger a security review. Third, if you recently completed your job search review appointment, sometimes there's a brief hold placed on claims while they update your status. The most reliable way to resolve this is to speak with an ESD representative directly. If you continue to have trouble reaching them, you can also request a call back through your eServices account under the

I definitely didn't mess up my SSN, and I haven't changed any banking info. I did have my job search review two weeks ago, but that went fine and last week's payment processed normally. I submitted a call back request through the portal, but it does say it could take up to 7 business days. Might try the phone service someone else suggested since I really can't wait that long.

Finally got through to someone at ESD! Turns out there was an identity verification issue that somehow didn't trigger a notification. The agent said they've had system problems with alerts not being sent to claimants. She cleared it up right away and my payment should process within 48 hours. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.
