ESD weekly claim shows 'disqualified' but no decision letter or appeal option available
I'm totally confused and freaking out a little. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like normal, and when I checked yesterday it says 'disqualified' in the status column. But here's the weird part - I don't have any notification or letter explaining why, and there's nothing showing up in the 'decision' tab that I can appeal! I called ESD about 20 times yesterday but couldn't get through. Has anyone else experienced this glitch where you get disqualified without any explanation or way to appeal? I desperately need this week's benefits to make rent. Could it be a system error? Do I need to wait for the letter to show up before I can appeal?

This literally just happened to me last month! The 'disqualified' status showed up but no letter in my correspondence or anything in the decision tab for like 5 days. I was losing my mind. Try checking under the 'pending issues' tab - sometimes they hide important stuff there that explains the disqualification. In my case, they flagged me for not reporting some income (which was totally wrong), but I couldn't see that until the letter finally appeared in my account almost a week later.

•Thanks for responding! I checked the 'pending issues' tab and there's nothing there either. It's completely empty. Did you just wait for the letter to appear or did you keep calling? I'm so stressed about this.

This is a known issue with the ESD system. When a disqualification occurs, there can be a 3-7 business day lag between when the status changes and when the determination letter appears in your account. Unfortunately, you won't be able to file an appeal until that determination letter is available. A few things to check: 1. Look at your previous weeks. Were you on standby status that might have expired? 2. Check if you reported any earnings for that week that might have exceeded your weekly benefit amount 3. Verify if you answered 'no' to being able and available for work 4. Confirm you completed your job search requirements (3 activities) Any of these could trigger a disqualification. I'd recommend checking your account daily for the determination letter to appear, then you'll have 30 days from the date on that letter to file your appeal.

•I'm pretty sure I did everything right. I answered yes to being available, reported no earnings, and logged my 3 job search activities. I wasn't on standby. I guess I'll just have to wait for the letter to show up, but it's so stressful not knowing what's happening with my claim when I need the money now.

the same bs happened 2 me. took almost 2 WEEKS 4 the letter 2 show up in my account. by then i missed my rent payment. esd system is garbage and they dont care at all about people who r struggling. when i finally got the letter it said i didnt do my work search activities even tho i DID. had to appeal and won but it took FOREVER.

•While I understand your frustration, it's important to note that ESD's system has been significantly improved since the pandemic. The current timeline for determination letters is generally 3-7 business days, not 2 weeks. Appeals are typically processed within 30 days. If you're experiencing longer delays, it's usually due to specific issues with your individual claim that require additional review.

I had this exact same problem and wasted DAYS trying to reach someone at ESD. After like 40+ calls I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent was able to tell me exactly why my claim was disqualified (apparently I answered a question wrong) and they fixed it right away. Saved me weeks of waiting for some letter that might never come. Worth checking out if you're desperate to find out what's going on.

•Thanks for the suggestion! At this point I'm desperate to talk to a real person at ESD. I'll check out that service because I can't afford to wait weeks for a letter that might get lost in the system.

•I check my mail every day and haven't received anything from ESD. It's been 4 days now since the status changed to disqualified.

This type of system inconsistency happens more often than ESD admits. I've been dealing with unemployment on and off for years, and their system is full of these timing gaps that cause massive anxiety for claimants. One thing to try: log completely out of your account, clear your browser cache/cookies, and then log back in. Sometimes the system doesn't refresh properly and you might not be seeing updates that are actually there. Also, try using a different browser entirely - Chrome sometimes displays elements that Firefox doesn't and vice versa. If none of that works, you're unfortunately stuck in the waiting game until either the determination letter appears or you can reach an agent by phone. Document EVERYTHING during this time - take screenshots of the disqualification status, the empty decision tab, etc. You may need this evidence if you have to escalate your case later.

•I tried logging out, clearing my cache, and using Edge instead of Chrome. Still nothing new showing up. I'll keep taking screenshots though - that's a good idea. I'm going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow if nothing changes because I can't afford to wait much longer without knowing what's happening.

Update on your situation - I just spoke with an ESD representative today about a similar issue affecting multiple claimants. There was apparently a system glitch on their end that incorrectly flagged some claims as "disqualified" without generating the corresponding determination notices. They're working to fix it, but it might take until the end of the week. The representative advised that if you see a disqualification status but no determination letter within 7 business days, you should call the claims center and request a manual review of your claim. Be sure to mention the specific glitch with missing determination letters. One important note: this glitch does NOT affect your appeal rights. The 30-day appeal window doesn't start until you actually receive the determination letter, so your right to appeal is protected even with this delay.

•Oh my gosh, thank you SO MUCH for this information! This makes me feel a lot better knowing it might just be a system glitch and not something I did wrong. I'll wait a couple more days and then try to get through to someone if nothing changes. Really appreciate you sharing this!

typical esd. blame it on a "glitch" instead of admitting they just cant do their jobs right. even if its true u still cant get anyone on the phone to fix it!!

•While it can be frustrating to deal with system issues, ESD has actually improved their response time to technical problems significantly in the past year. Glitches happen in any large computer system, especially one processing hundreds of thousands of claims. What matters is how quickly they address and resolve them, which has gotten much better recently.

UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD using that Claimyr service someone recommended above. Turns out there WAS a glitch in the system! The agent said a batch of claims got incorrectly marked as disqualified during a system update. She fixed it right on the spot and my claim now shows as paid! The money should be in my account in 2-3 business days. So relieved! If anyone else is having this issue, definitely try to speak with an actual agent rather than just waiting.

•That's awesome news! So glad you got it resolved quickly. I might try that service next time I have issues because waiting for ESD to fix things on their own timeline is so stressful when you're counting on that money.

•Thank you for the update! This confirms what I heard about the system glitch. Glad to hear they were able to resolve it quickly once you reached a representative. This information will be helpful for others experiencing the same issue.
